Nearly two years after they were tested at just one location in California, the Big Cheez-it Tostada and Big Cheez-It Crunchwrap Supreme are rolling out to Taco Bell menus nationwide. On Thursday, Taco Bell announced that both items are rolling out nationwide and fans will be able to get them in restaurant starting June 6th for a limited time. Taco Bell Rewards Members get exclusive access starting May 30th, via the Taco Bell app.

"This collaboration isn't just about bringing together two iconic brands; it's about taking the spirit of fan innovation to create something truly larger than life," Taco Bell chief innovation officer Liz Matthews said. "We're thrilled to launch this exciting partnership nationwide and offer fans a whole new way to experience the classic cheesy and crunchy flavors they love from Taco Bell and Cheez-It."

Both the Big Cheez-It Tostada and Big Cheez-It Crunchwrap Supreme feature an extra-large Cheez-It cracker -- one that is 16 times larger than a normal Cheez-It. The tostada layers ground beef, reduced fat sour cream, tomatoes, lettuce, and cheddar cheese on the giant Cheez-It and has a price of $3.99. The Big Cheez-It Crunchwrap Supreme uses the Cheez-It to replace the tostada portion of the normal Crunchwrap and features the same ingredients as the tostada, just with the addition of nacho cheese instead of shredded cheese. It costs $5.49. Customers can also get the Big Cheez-It Box, which includes the Big Cheez-It Crunchwrap Supreme, a five-layer burrito, nacho fries, and a medium drink for $8.99.

"There are few things that everyone can agree on ... but the iconic flavors from Taco Bell menu items and Cheez-It snacks appeal to all," Matthews offered in a press release back in 2022. "We're thrilled about this new concept with Cheez-It, which gives our fans the chance to experience the real cheese and crunch they love from both of our brands in a whole new way."

The Backrooms: Lost Media Fans Have Finally Identified Where the Creepypasta Photo Was Taken https://comicbook.com/movies/news/the-backrooms-lost-media-identified-original-creepypasta-photo/ Thu, 30 May 2024 19:34:00 +0000 Russ Burlingame cd582e1f-1e0c-457f-af2d-66bf933b0f90

"The Backrooms" is that rare 4Chan post that not only became familiar to mainstream audiences, but broke out of the social media bubble to become a fairly mainstream pop culture phenomenon. Originally just a creepy photo, an anonymous user attached it to a short "creepypasta," and it almost immediately took off. The story of The Backrooms is short, to the point, and basically a perfect creepypasta: "If you're not careful and you noclip out of reality in the wrong areas, you'll end up in the Backrooms, where it's nothing but the stink of old moist carpet, the madness of mono-yellow, the endless background noise of fluorescent lights at maximum hum-buzz, and approximately six hundred million square miles of randomly segmented empty rooms to be trapped in. God save you if you hear something wandering around nearby, because it sure as hell has heard you."

In the decade or so since, there has been a webseries adaptation, video games, and A24 is reportedly developing a feature film based on the concept. So, it's probably not surprising that eventually people started to wonder what the actual story of the photo was. That kicked off a search -- which ended yesterday.

A number of Discord users -- handles Serrara, Semliot, Xaft, and PerditusRedux -- have discovered an Internet Archive link that shows off the very first version of the photo that was posted online. PerditusRedux was key in finding the origins of the photo, and it was actually a fairly simple idea: they took the earliest known filename for the image (one discovered and identified by Serrara), and plugged it into X's search function. That kicked back a years-old tweet that featured a link to a post from Hobby Town in Oshkosh, WI.

You can see a pretty great breakdown from YouTuber Farrell McGuire below.

While a number of people after them would find the image liminal, unsettling, or downright creepy, the photo was originally presented without any such context. Instead, the link detailed the process of tearing apart some old display walls from a closed-down furniture store, so they could build a race track for remote control cars.

The furniture store theory was one that had been put forth by McGuire about a month ago, in a video where he speculated that's why there were so many odd, seemingly false walls, why the walls had a protective rail mounted on them, and why there seemed to be so few plugs for such a large area.

Maybe if we get lucky, A24 can include some creepy RC cars in their version of The Backrooms now...!

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice Reveals New Images and Cover Art in Empire's Latest Issue https://comicbook.com/movies/news/beetlejuice-2-new-images-cover-art-empire-magazine/ Thu, 30 May 2024 17:00:00 +0000 Kofi Outlaw e241e0d2-fa5e-452f-93f7-941a24e1d1c7

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is gracing the cover of Empire Magazine's latest issue, and the cast is looking frightfully good!

Michael Keaton takes center stage on the main cover, with Beetlejuice 2 stars Winona Ryder (Lydia Deetz) Catherine O'Hara (Delia Deetz), and franchise newcomer Jenna Ortega (Astrid Deetz) right alongside him. A second piece of cover art attempts to capture the spirit of Tim Burton's Beetlejuice with a trippy painting of Keaton as Beetlejuice, at the center of a purple-and-green vortex. It already screams "collector's item."

Another feature on Empire comes with a new image of Keaton's Beetlejuice, who is hanging out with old franchise favorite the shrunken head man, 'Harry the Hunter.' Harry's looking far more professional these days, having traded in his hunter's khakis for a nice yellow suit.

The nostalgia bait seems worthwhile in this case: Michael Keaton is openly confident that Tim Burton has done the (near-impossible), by recapturing the magic of the original:

"I love it [the film]" Keaton said. "I absolutely love this thing. And I don't [usually] talk like that. I unabashedly love this. It was not easy to pull off, and I think we did it in spades."

Subway Brings Back Fan-Favorite Footlong Cookie https://comicbook.com/irl/news/subway-brings-back-fan-favorite-footlong-cookie/ Thu, 30 May 2024 04:53:00 +0000 Nicole Drum aee51001-c550-4260-becb-6299d267c2b4

Cookie fans -- especially fans of Subway's cookies -- rejoice. On Wednesday, Subway announced that the fan-favorite Footlong Cookie is returning to restaurants across the country. The return of the treat comes after what the brand calls "months of incredible demand". The cookie is available now in restaurant and is available on the Subway website and third-party delivery services, such as DoorDash and Uber Eats.

The Footlong Cookie was first announced as a menu item last fall and arrived on menus in January. However, the cookie then disappeared for several months this year, prompting cookie fans to request its return. The cookie is part of Subway's overall treat lineup which also includes a Cinnabon churro and a soft pretzel from Auntie Anne's.

The Footlong Cookie has delighted millions of Americans since their first bites in January, sparking unprecedented demand over the last several months," Paul Fabre, Subway's senior vice president of culinary and innovation said. "Subway worked diligently to rush additional Footlong Cookie supply to satisfy cookie cravings at a great value and serve up a footlong dose of happiness this summer"

According to Subway, they've sold more than five million Footlong Cookies since it debuted.

The return of the beloved Footlong Cookie is just the latest news from Subway. The brand also recently released its sauces in stores as part of its wider brand revolution. Subway partnered with sauce maker T. Marzetti to sell its sauces at big box stores nationwide: Sweet Onion Teriyaki, Roasted Garlic Aioli, Baja Chipotle, and Creamy Italian MVP.

"Subway fans love our signature sauces. Three of the new retail sauces - Sweet Onion Teriyaki, Roasted Garlic Aioli and Baja Chipotle - are inspired by guests' in-restaurant favorites, and we've added an exclusive flavor to this collection with a Creamy Italian MVP, a new twist on Subway's MVP Parmesan Vinaigrette," Fabre said at the time. "This partnership takes our sauces to another level and enables our fans to take their culinary creations from ordinary to extraordinary while also contributing to an important cause."

Subway's Footlong Cookie is available now.

Demon Slayer Cosplay Puts Hilarious Spin on Tanjiro and Nezuko https://comicbook.com/anime/news/demon-slayer-season-4-tanjiro-nezuko-cosplay-anime/ Thu, 30 May 2024 00:39:00 +0000 Nick Valdez 764dd556-72b3-4f7c-a369-d5bd4ee323fc

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba is now working its way through the Hashira Training Arc of Koyoharu Gotoge's original manga series, and a wild cosplay has put a new spin on the Tanjiro and Nezuko Kamado sibling duo! Demon Slayer Season 4 has premiered this Spring to take on a major training arc as Tanjiro and the other members of the Demon Slayer Corps, and it won't be too much longer before the final fights against Muzan Kibutsuji's powerful final forces begin in full. But this training period means we won't get to see much of Nezuko in action this time around.

Demon Slayer: Hashira Training Arc will have plenty of Tanjiro as he takes part in each of the Hashira's special training, but Nezuko will be on the sidelines this time around as there won't be any kind of major conflict to be seen this season. It's going to be a brief break for the siblings, but it won't be too long before they get thrown right back into the chaos once more. But the duo has come back together once more with a wild cosplay from artist Low Cost Cosplay on Instagram. Check it out below:

Where to Watch Demon Slayer Season 4

You can now stream the first three episodes of Demon Slayer: Hashira Training Arc with Crunchyroll (which has yet to confirm how many episodes it will last this Spring), but can also catch up on the first three seasons of Demon Slayer along with the Demon Slayer: Mugen Train Arc movie streaming there as well while we wait for what's next. There has yet to be an announcement for the release of the new season's English dub as of the time of this publication. They tease what to expect from the anime on a whole as such:

"It is the Taisho Period in Japan. Tanjiro, a kindhearted boy who sells charcoal for a living, finds his family slaughtered by a demon. To make matters worse, his younger sister Nezuko, the sole survivor, has been transformed into a demon herself. Though devastated by this grim reality, Tanjiro resolves to become a 'demon slayer' so that he can turn his sister back into a human, and kill the demon that massacred his family."

If you wanted to check out the now complete original manga and read ahead instead, you can find Koyoharu Gotoge's Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba its entirety (with a paid subscription) with Viz Media's digital Shonen Jump library or Shueisha's MangaPlus service.

One Piece Cosplay Highlights Nami's Best Makeovers Over the Years https://comicbook.com/anime/news/one-piece-nami-cosplay-anime/ Wed, 29 May 2024 00:39:00 +0000 Nick Valdez d051c9e5-a25e-41cf-9174-56d6a438d0ca

One Piece has given the Straw Hats makeovers with each new arc of the series over the years, and one awesome cosplay is helping to highlight some of Nami's best makeovers! One Piece has officially kicked off the first arc of the Final Saga for Eiichiro Oda's original manga series, and it's really starting to feel like the end of it all is near. It's a wild concept when you consider how far Luffy and the Straw Hats have come since the series starting nearly 30 years ago. And even wilder when you consider how much more ground there still is left to cover in the future.

Each member of the Straw Hats has grown over the course of their long journey together with Luffy, and no one seems better reflective of that than Nami. She's become a much different kind of person in the crew than when it all began, and has shown off all sorts of different looks corresponding to each of her major adventures in the series. Helping fans take that fun trip down memory lane is artist thechrissymourns on TikTok, who has tapped into some of Nami's best makeovers with awesome cosplay. Check it out:

Evil: Mike Colter Wants to Take Down Big Oil in Paramount+ Series https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/evil-cast-interview-season-5-story-vs-big-oil-companies/ Tue, 28 May 2024 18:03:00 +0000 Kofi Outlaw 667bff3c-82fe-4912-ac87-6f0ae96b2498

Evil Season 4 is now streaming on Paramount+, and it's set to be the Final Season of the show. However, over the course of four seasons, Evil's team of paranormal investigators has had to go to some pretty strange and unlikely places for their cases. The Season 4 premiere, "How to Split an Atom", took the team to the site of a particle accelerator that may have been doubling as a portal to Hell. It was a cross-section of peril between science and faith - and exactly the kind of vibe that Evil has always been on.

In that sense, it may or may not be all that surprising that ComicBook's interview with the stars of Evil - Mike Colter (Father David Acosta), Katja Herbers (Dr. Kristen Bouchard), and Ben Shakir (Aasif Mandvi) - resulted in a... unique answer about what "evil" they'd want to show to fight.

"For me it would probably be Michael Emerson's character," Katja Herbers said. "He's a mastermind of so much evil, and he may not be a monster-demon but I'm sure that if we zipped him open there's a monster inside of him."

For me, if we could honestly take down Big Oil, that'd be fun."

"Oh! Thank you!" Herbers exclaimed. "A big corporate monster!"

"We figure out who is pulling all the strings, and then we'd figure out how to change their mind, and convince them that the world is worth saving, and money is not that important, and then we'd all live happily ever after," Colter continued, adding that the storyline "Could be a whole season."

evil-tv-series-cast-interview-vs-big-oil.jpg
(Photo: Paramount+)

Herbers and Mandvi were enthusiastically in agreement with that story premise, as both actors joined in the buzz and cacophony of talking with Colter about doing a whole Evil Season 5 arc about 'fixing the Climate Crisis.' So if the powers that be behind Evil (no pun) don't think there's meat still left on the bone... maybe they should reconsider that cancelation?

In all seriousness: it's funny to see how much the cast of Evil embodies the spirit of their characters and the overall show, at this point. While they were clearly in the deep throes of the press tour Q&A marathon, their off-handed and quirky response about "Big Oil" actually feels like the kind of pitch we'd expect for an episode of the show.

...That's all to say, we're going to miss Evil and its stars when this Final Season is over. And we'll be dreaming about the battle with Big Oil that might've been...

Evil Season 4 is now streaming on Paramount+.

Comedian Jim Norton Didn't Know He was in Spider-Man Until It Came Out https://comicbook.com/movies/news/spider-man-2002-jim-norton-didnt-know-was-in-movie-until-release-surly-truck-driver/ Tue, 28 May 2024 16:23:00 +0000 Kofi Outlaw 380a0f6e-f37a-4187-91a5-e3729fe15b13

Marvel's Spider-Man movie curse continues, as yet another famous person involved with the Spider-Man movie franchise has confessed they didn't even know they were in the film!

Comedian Jim Norton appeared in Sam Raimi's 2002 Spider-Man movie, in the bit role of "Surly Truck Driver." Raimi's film uses a lot of testimonials from NYC citizens and media regarding the phenomenon of Spider-Man's appearance. But apparently, Jim Norton had no idea that his bit actually made it into Spider-Man (2002), until it blew up in theaters:

"I often wondered - as I feel he was the lynchpin in the film - very underrated role, the Surly Truck Driver - really turned the tone of the city," Norton joked with ComicBook's Chris Killian.

jim-norton-surly-truck-drive-in-spider-man-2002.jpg
(Photo: Columbia Pictures)

Getting more serious, Norton explained that he didn't know he was in Spider-Man (2002) simply because he didn't formally film anything on a main set with Sam Raimi - he was one of many improv actors that filmed bit scenes with the 2nd Unit crews:

"I didn't even know I made it in - because I didn't work with Sam Raimi," Norton said. "It was 2nd Unit; in Queens, we shot that. So they just told me to improv a bunch of stuff, so I did. And I was doing jokes about like webs, almost like whacking-off and a web would shoot. And they were like 'You can't do c*m jokes: this is a kids' movie. And I go 'Oh, okay.' So I did what I did and they used a couple of lines - or just one line - and I realized when fans were calling into the radio show [Opie and Anthony] saying 'Ay, I saw Spider-Man: You're in it!'"

This isn't an isolated incident for Jim Norton, who also didn't realize he made it into an Oscar-nominated film by Martin Scorsese: "That's how it was with The Irishman too: I didn't know I made it until the night before, I bumped into Ray Romano and he goes 'Hey! Great job!'"

It's also not an isolated incident for Spider-Man movie actors: Back in 2019, when all the Marvel Cinematic Universe actors were out doing press for Avengers: Endgame, Iron Man franchise star Gwyneth Paltrow sparked headlines and social media uproar when she admitted that she had no idea she had appeared alongside Tom Holland in Spider-Man: Homecoming. Paltrow eventually doused the flames by explaining that the volume of MCU projects she appeared in made it hard to know which scenes were going where:

"I just got confused. There's so many of these wonderful Marvel interconnecting movies and I thought that it was an Avengers movie, but it was not."

Spider-Man movies: a web of collaboration so big it's hard to keep track of everyone who gets caught in it.

Star Wars Fan Posts Epic, Four-Hour Breakdown of Disney's Galactic Starcruiser Hotel https://comicbook.com/starwars/news/star-wars-galactic-starcruiser-video-documentary-closed-youtube-jenny-nicholson/ Tue, 28 May 2024 15:55:00 +0000 Patrick Cavanaugh 45b617dc-c94d-4674-8498-c20c052d202f

In March of 2022, Walt Disney World Resort unveiled one of its most ambitious projects to date with the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser immersive hotel, and in September 2023, the hotel shuttered its doors. While there are a number of factors that contributed to what made Disney pull the plug on the project entirely, YouTuber Jenny Nicholson recently shared an exhaustive deep-dive on her channel that chronicles the history of the hotel, from its inception to her own experience in the hotel to the aftermath of its closure announcement. Given that fans no longer have the opportunity to check out the hotel for themselves, Nicholson's video is arguably the closest someone could get to visiting the Galactic Starcruiser themselves. You can check out the full-length video on her page or in the video below.

Rumors of the destination emerged in 2017 and it was ultimately confirmed at that year's D23, but given that Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge was set to be opening at both Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resort before the opening of the Galactic Satacruiser, fans were more focused on those openings. While audiences were thrilled that Galaxy's Edge would offer fans an opportunity to immerse themselves in a galaxy far, far away, there was immediate trepidation over the fact that the location would be the all-new Black Spire Outpost on Batuu, as opposed to any recognizable world from the franchise.

Excitement grew about Galaxy's Edge when it opened at both Disneyland and Disney World in 2019, but initial reception wasn't quite as overwhelming as expected, with the coronavirus pandemic then also understandably taking a major toll on the entire amusement park industry. Galactic Starcruiser was initially set to open in 2021, but the unveiling was pushed to 2022 due to the pandemic.

Much like Galaxy's Edge, the first reactions to Galactic Starcruiser were negative, as one of the first major pieces of information revealed about it was that its cheapest room for two people cost nearly $5,000 for two nights. Even though all the bells and whistles of staying in an immersive, Star Wars-themed hotel were exciting, the sticker shock alone made fans doubtful of the experience justifying the cost.

As Nicholson expresses in her channel, while there were glimmers of fun and fulfilling experiences, a number of interface issues prevented her (and countless other guests who voiced similar opinions on social media) from feeling like she was part of her own adventure in which her actions impacted her stay. With Disney often expressing that the high cost wasn't just for the accommodations, but also for the gameplay element in which you would interact with cast members and have that impact your journey, for these crucial components to be missing from so many guests' time in the Galactic Starcruiser, it was a disappointment.

The estimated costs of building the hotel range from hundreds of millions all the way up to $1 billion, so it's hard not to view the project as a major misstep, as it was intended to be a permanent destination at the park instead of a temporary installation. There were reportedly plans to possibly alter the theme of the hotel to focus on the Disney+ TV series The Mandalorian, though Disney instead opted to close the hotel entirely.

It's currently unknown what Disney intends to do with the space going forward.

Richard M. Sherman, Songwriter and Disney Legend, Dead at 95 https://comicbook.com/movies/news/richard-m-sherman-songwriter-and-disney-legend-dead-at-95/ Sun, 26 May 2024 18:15:00 +0000 Jamie Jirak cb34607a-5d95-4896-a065-bc74eb57ad5b

Richard M. Sherman, the composer known for creating iconic works of music alongside his brother, Robert Sherman, has passed away at age 95. According to NPR, Sherman passed away due to an age-related illness. Serman's death comes 12 years after his brother passed away at age 86. Richard, the younger of the Sherman brothers, continued to work in recent years. Best known for creating the music of Mary Poppins, which won the Shermans two Academy Awards in 1965, Richard Sherman was a Disney Legend. Last year, Sherman recorded a new version of "Feed the Birds" from Mary Poppins for the short film, Once Upon a Studio. "Feed the Birds" was known to be Walt Disney's favorite song, and Sherman would often play it for him in his office.

Sherman was born in New York on June 12th in 1928, and his family moved to Beverly Hills, California when he was 9. The Sherman brothers' gift for music came from their father, Al, who was also a songwriter. In an interview in 2005, Sherman recalled his father encouraging him and his brother to write together. "He sensed that Bob and I collaborating and pooling our wits could come up with something," Sherman shared.

The Sherman brothers' hit song "Tall Paul" from 1958 is what caught the attention of Walt Disney. Their music career began at Disney with The Parent Trap in 1961 and they continued to create music for films such as The Sword in the Stone, Winnie Pooh and the Honey Tree, The Jungle Book, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, The Aristocats, Bedknobs and Broomsticks, and more.

Throughout their career, the Shermans were nominated for nine Academy Awards, winning "Best Music, Substantially Original Score" for Mary Poppins and "Best Music, Original Song" for Mary Poppins' "Chim Chim Cher-ee."

The Sherman brothers' songwriting history and complicated personal relationship was chronicled in the 2009 film, The Boys: The Sherman Brothers' Story. Their last original score was for Disney's The Tigger Movie in 2000. In 2018, Sherman served as a consultant on Mary Poppins Returns, which featured new music from Marc Shaiman and songs by Lin-Manuel Miranda.

Last year, ComicBook spoke with the directors of Once Upon a Studio, and they reflected on their time working with Sherman.

"That was an amazing day," Trent Correy shared. "Dan texted me the night before and said, 'Tuck your shirt in, buddy, wear something nice.' Because meeting Richard Sherman, he's a legend. And at 94 years young, he played 'Feed the Birds' for us. And it was a magical day."

"He and his brother Bob were like, they're a soundtrack to my youth," Dan Abraham added. "And I did bring my Winnie the Pooh and Tigger Too record for him to sign. I had to play it cool and be like, 'This is awesome and stuff.' But like, oh my gosh, those guys are so talented. And to get to record him at 94 years old in Walt Disney's office on a Friday afternoon on the same piano that he played for Walt, it was just like a constant, 'Don't cry, don't cry, don't cry.' I'll never forget that day."

Our thoughts are with Richard Sherman's loved ones at this difficult time.

Post Sweetens Up Summer With Three New Cereals https://comicbook.com/irl/news/post-sweetens-up-summer-with-three-new-cereals/ Sun, 26 May 2024 03:53:00 +0000 Nicole Drum c9dcf778-6435-4f88-b9db-79df62c5310b

It's Memorial Day weekend and summer is upon us, and now that the season of sun and fun has arrived breakfast is ready for a little bit of fun as well. To welcome the season, Post is rolling out three new cereal offerings as well as offering a trio of beloved favorites in larger sizes to fuel the festivities. According to Post, joining the lineup are Fruity Pebbles Waffles Cereal, Summer Fruity Pebbles Cereal, and Frosted Chocolate Cake Cereal, each available for a limited time.

The Fruity Pebbles Waffles Cereal is described as a delicious mashup of two fan-favorite breakfasts, Fruity Pebbles and Waffle Crisp. The "fruity blasted" waffle pieces have notes of both maple syrup and the iconic Fruity Pebbles flavor. Summer Fruity Pebbles is the latest seasonal take on the beloved classic, this time featuring the iconic flavor just in festive red and blue hued flakes for summer (and, of course, the box is festive with summer fun in Bedrock, too!). As for the Frosted Chocolate Cake Cereal, bring dessert to breakfast without the mess of baking. The cereal is described as being made with real chocolate chips and featuring eight delightfully crunchy, chocolatey layers. All three flavors are available now at retailers nationwide.

And as for the trio of favorites getting bigger sizes? Fruity Pebbles Marshmallow Cereal is now offered in a 15-ounce box while both Fruity Pebbles and Cocoa Pebbles now come in Giant Size -- a big, 23-ounce box.

These new releases are just the latest from Post. Earlier this year, they also released a Spring Fruity Pebbles. That version of the cereal featured flakes inspired by the colors of flowers and spring: springtime pink, green, yellow, and blue. The packaging for Spring Fruity Pebbles also featured fun springtime activities for Pebbles and Fred as well.

Post's new limited edition cereal offerings as well as the larger sizes of Fruity Pebbles, Cocoa Pebbles, and Fruity Pebbles Marshmallow are available in stores now.

The Home Alone House Is Back on the Market https://comicbook.com/movies/news/home-alone-house-sale-market-zillow-chicago/ Sat, 25 May 2024 14:49:00 +0000 Aaron Perine 88263c68-4d63-417e-836b-f8c97049acfb

Home Alone's iconic house is back on the market and movie fans are obsessing over the realtor's posts about it. Over in Chicago's North Shore, 671 N. Lincoln Ave. is the house you all remember from the 1990s Christmas staple. Back then, the McCalister family was supposed to take a trip. But, young Kevin had to fend off home invaders all by his lonesome during the Holiday Season. It's a core memory for a lot of viewers out there. On Zillow, you can have your chance to live in movie history for the paltry sum of $5,250,000. (What a deal!) But, seriously, the closest a lot of us are going to get to buying that house is scrolling through these pictures on the Internet. Check out what the Zillow lisitng is down below!

"A legendary holiday dream home, reimagined for modern-day luxury: The stately brick Georgian residence of Home Alone fame brings forward a rare opportunity to own one of the most iconic movie residences in American pop culture. Nestled on a picturesque, tree-lined street in the heart of east Winnetka and elegantly poised behind a wrought-iron gate, the property epitomizes classic Chicago suburban architecture," The Zillow description reads. "The residence itself is a masterpiece of traditional style with an effortlessly flowing floorplan brimming with warmth, character, and exquisitely crafted detail. Fully renovated and expanded in 2018, the current owners took the utmost care in maintaining the architectural detail and integrity of the home's most memorable and recognizable spaces."

Home Alone Stars & Fans React To Wild Pricetag

Every time this house hits the market, fans ask the actors about the economics of such a massive house in Illinois. PEOPLE Magazine caught up with Catherine O'Hara to ask about these pressing matters. Earlier this year, the Home Alone house was valued at around $2.3 million and viewers couldn't believe it.

"I thought the house was pretty amazing," O'Hara reflected. "Oh Lord, yeah. I was aware of how beautiful it was, but no, I never thought of their money. That's not where my head was when I was doing [the movie]. Of course, they all went to Paris, didn't they?... People have these theories. Where'd they get their money? Maybe he inherited it... they inherited it."

In another conversation with The New York Times, a sociology professor at Saint Mary's College in California broke down just how loaded Kevin's family must have been. Famously, the Federal Reserve calculated how much the McCalisters must have been earning at the time to afford this palace in Chicago, Illinois. Does $305,000 per year in those days sound like a lot?

"[John Hughes's] stories usually favor the perspective of the working class kid or the poor kid who is trying to gain access to a wealthier peer group, for instance," Robert Bulman, the Saint Mary's College of California professor, explained. "But in 'Home Alone,' it's unmistakably a victory for Kevin as a child, but also Kevin as a rich kid defending his impressive fortress."

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga Review & Beetlejuice 2 Trailer Breakdown https://comicbook.com/movies/news/furiosa-mad-max-reviews-beetlejuice-2-trailer-star-wars-acolyte-reactions-podcast/ Fri, 24 May 2024 23:39:00 +0000 Kofi Outlaw 25a06766-15c7-47b6-bf3d-c4c67c33b274

PLUS: What to know about the Summer kickoff of some big WWE and AEW PPV events! - and first reactions to Star Wars: The Acolyte are in!

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga Review

ComicBook critic Spencer Perry's Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga Review gives the film 4.5. out of 5 stars:

Comparisons to Fury Road will no doubt bounce about like a flaming tire rolling down a well-paved Wasteland street, but Furiosa and Fury Road are focused on different things. Though there are similarities to be found, and several characters and key locations appear in both, Furiosa is aiming for something closer in nature to Spartacus or Lawrence of Arabia than Fury Road, despite their aesthetic overlap and narrative loops. If there's a fault to find in Furiosa, it's that some of its attempts to really connect itself to Fury Road aren't seamless. It's not that they don't work, but the timeline of events becomes slightly muddled, which is the film's only real stumbling block and the kind of flaw that will fade into dust with time.

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga is equal parts post-apocalyptic action thriller and biblical epic. Even if you think you've seen what this world has to offer, there are still surprises to find in the sand.

Stranger Things' Millie Bobby Brown Marries Jake Bongiovi in Secret Wedding https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/stranger-things-millie-bobby-brown-marries-jake-bongiovi-in-secret-wedding/ Fri, 24 May 2024 22:56:00 +0000 Jamie Jirak e485ba98-35ee-493d-8467-1794a79908b8

Last year, Stranger Things star Millie Bobby Brown got engaged to boyfriend Jake Bongiovi, a model and the son of Jon Bon Jovi. According to The Sun, the couple officially tied the knot in a secret ceremony last weekend. It's been reported that the parents of both Brown and Bongiovi were in attendance. A source told the outlet that it was "a very low-key, romantic affair with their closest family with them as they said their vows." Last year, Bon Jovi addressed the couple's engagement after being asked about their ages. Brown is 20 and Bongiovi is 22.

"I don't know if age matters," he explained to Radio Andy. "If you find the right partner and you grow together ... my advice really is growing together is wise. I think that all of my kids have found people that they think they can grow together with and we like them all." He added, "Millie is wonderful."

Back in March, it was revealed that Matthew Modine, who plays Martin Brenner AKA Papa in Stranger Things, would be officiating Brown's ceremony.

"I have one of those licenses to get people married," Modine shared with Access Daily. "And Millie thought it'd be great, and then Jake said it would be a great idea, so I wrote the wedding vows and they loved what I wrote for them to join hands and to become husband and wife." He added, "It's such a beautiful thing to be able to join two people in holy matrimony."

How Will Stranger Things End?

"I'm gonna just make a bold statement," David Harbour told ComicBook last year. "Each year, it feels like the show's getting bigger and bigger and more exciting. And we have a real responsibility to knock it out of the park in the final season. So if we don't, give me all of your fan rage. Write the petitions. Go ahead, do it. Because I'm going down there next week to start and I'm going to pour my whole heart into this thing. I've read some of the scripts and in my mind, they're stunningly beautiful. It's time. We're going to knock it out of the park. We're going to deliver you the finale that you need, that you want, that I want."

Stranger Things creators, Matt Duffer and Ross Duffer, recently revealed that their pitch for the fifth season was a tear-jerker.

"Listen. It's our process but it's just like, we really just try to focus on one season at a time," Ross Duffer previously told The Wrap. "We do have an outline for season 5 and we pitched it to Netflix and they really responded well to it. I mean, it was hard. It's the end of the story. I saw executives crying who I've never seen cry before and it was wild. And it's not just to do with the story, just the fact that it's like, Oh my God, this thing that has defined so many of our lives, these Netflix people who has been with us from the beginning, seven years now, and it's hard to imagine the journey coming to an end."

Stranger Things is expected to return for its final season next year. Congrats to Millie Bobby Brown and Jake Bongiovi!

Steven Spielberg Untitled Event Movie Gets Summer 2026 Release Date https://comicbook.com/movies/news/steven-spielberg-untitled-event-film-movie-release-date-summer-2026/ Thu, 23 May 2024 19:17:00 +0000 Kofi Outlaw f449fd81-3d84-4f4a-8d03-7ece01c3a646

Steven Spielberg has an untitled "event movie" set for release in 2026. Few details have been announced: The release date of the film will be May 15, 2026, and David Koepp (Jurassic Park, Mission: Impossible, Spider-Man, Indiana Jones 5) will be penning the script.

While that isn't much to go on, it is significant enough. For the last decade (or more) Steven Spielberg has been in a phase of his career where he's much more selective with his projects, which tend to alternate between big "event" blockbuster films (Ready Player One, BFG, The Adventures of Tintin) and personal/prestige pictures (Lincoln, Bridge of Spies, West Side Story, The Fabelmans). Ready Player One was the last official blockbuster film that Spielberg did (way back in 2018), so there will be an eight-year gap between that film and the release of this new event film.

spielberg-netflix-movies-1273036.jpg
(Photo: Getty Images)

...Not that Spielberg has been resting on his laurels.

The Fabelmans was Spielberg's most personal work to date - a dramatized version of his childhood and upbringing, as well as the complicated relationship between his parents. For digging deep into his own life and its complications (and celebrating the "pure" love of filmmaking) Spielberg received seven Oscar Nominations, including Best Picture and Best Director, as well as winning two Golden Globe Awards for Best Motion Picture - Drama and Best Director.

While he may not jump behind the camera as often, Spielberg has never slowed the pace on his producer/executive producer role. Spielberg's name is attached to Paramount's Halo TV series, the Apple TV+ miniseries Masters of the Air; Warner Bros.' remake of The Color Purple (2023); Netflix's Life on Our Planet docuseries; Bradley Cooper's Oscar-bait film Maestro; Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny; Transformers: Rise of the Beasts and the upcoming animated prequel Transformers One - as well as the Jurassic World series, which is still ongoing.

Spielberg also keeps a crowded production slate, which includes the long-awaited Gremlins 3, another Tintin film, Real Steel 2, a long-delayed adaptation of the book Robopocalyse; this year's requel film Twisters and the next era of Jurassic World projects. It's conceivable that this 2026 "event film" could be any number of the projects we've heard him attached to over the years. In some cases that would be even more exciting than the director taking on a completely new film project.

Josh Charles Thought Ethan Hawke Was "Punking" Him About Being in Taylor Swift Music Video https://comicbook.com/irl/news/josh-charles-ethan-hawke-punking-him-about-being-in-taylor-swift-fortnight-video/ Thu, 23 May 2024 04:52:00 +0000 Nicole Drum 65c15aa9-ae11-49ab-8a43-fcb7139b8e77

It's the crossover that no one expected, when Taylor Swift released the music video for "Fortnight", the lead single off of her The Tortured Poets Department album last month and gave fans a surprise Dead Poets Society reunion of sorts as the video featured appearance from actors Ethan Hawke and Josh Charles, but as it turns out, it wasn't just fans who were surprised. Charles revealed during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon that he thought Hawke was "punking" him when asked to be in the video.

"It was a really strange thing. Taylor knows Ethan's daughter Maya and reached out to her. The title of the album [is] obviously The Tortured Poets Department and so I think it's a little tip of the cap to Dead Poets Society, other tortured poets," Charles said. "She probably had this idea [that] it'd be interesting for us to be in the video."

He continued, "Ethan reached out to me and once I got over thinking he was punking me -- when he first called me, I said, 'dude, are you bullsh-tting me right now?'"

As it turns out, Hawke was being very serious. In the video, Hawke and Charles appear as doctors trying to get Swift's character to forget her affair with Post Malone's character. In her social media post introducing the video, Swift even acknowledged the Dead Poets Society connection.

"When I was writing the Fortnight music video, I wanted to show you the worlds I saw in my head that served as the backdrop for making this music. Pretty much everything in it is a metaphor or a reference to one corner of the album or another," she wrote. "For me, this video turned out to be the perfect visual representation of this record and the stories I tell in it. Post Malone blew me away on set as our tortured tragic hero and I'm so grateful to him for everything he put into this collaboration. I'm still laughing from getting to work with the coolest guys on earth, Ethan Hawke, and Josh Charles (tortured poets, meet your colleagues from down the hall, the dead poets). I still can't believe I get to work with the unfathomably brilliant Rodrigo Prieto on cinematography and my team of dream collaborators: Ethan Tobman (production design), Chancler Haynes (editor), Anthony Dimino (1st AD), Jil Hardin (producer) and Dom Thomas (executive producer). Parliament aced the VFX as always. Joseph Cassell, Lorrie Turk, and Jemma Muradian made these tortured looks come to life. The entire crew made this a dream to shoot. Thank you to everyone involved and everyone who has watched it!!"

Is Taylor Swift Appearing in Deadpool 3?

While the Dead Poets Society reunion was a fun surprise in the "Fortnight" music video, fans are hoping for another surprise when it comes to Swift and Deadpool & Wolverine. One of the biggest rumors surrounding Deadpool 3 is that the eagerly anticipated film could feature Swift in a cameo role as Alison Blaire/Dazzler, a beloved mutant pop star with the ability to bend light. Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy -- who himself previously appeared in Swift's All Too Well: The Short Film -- previously addressed the possibility.

"They sure are loud," Levy said, referring to fans of Swift wanting the superstar to play Dazzler. "I'm going across the board. 'No comment' because that's a double whammy. That's Taylor-related. And it's MCU-related. I'm no dummy. You're going to have to wait and see."

Demon Slayer Cosplay Sheds Tears With Gyomei https://comicbook.com/anime/news/demon-slayer-season-4-gyomei-cosplay-anime/ Thu, 23 May 2024 00:40:00 +0000 Nick Valdez 31b03b7d-d4f2-4297-9035-ab6a3c518299

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba is now back and running with Season 4 of the anime airing its new episodes this Spring, and one creative cosplay has found a way to shed tears with the Stone Hashira, Gyomei Himejima! Demon Slayer's newest season is adapting the Hashira Training Arc from Koyoharu Gotoge's original manga series, and with the fourth season of the series fans are getting reintroduced to the Hashira that fans first met during the very first season of the anime. But it's all business as the Hashira need to train for the major fights ahead against Muzan Kibutsuji and his final forces.

Demon Slayer: Hashira Training Arc is tasking the Hashira with training in order to unlock each of their Demon Slayer marks like Tanjiro and the others were able to unleash in the previous season, and that means this newest season of the anime will be all training before the chaos of the series' final arcs kick into high gear. As the strongest Hashira, Gyomei still has yet to show off his stuff in full but has made an impact thanks to design alone. It's this tearful design that's been brought to life in a creative way by artist Low Cost Cosplay on Instagram. Check it out:

How to Watch Demon Slayer Season 4

You can now stream the first two episodes of Demon Slayer Season 4 with Crunchyroll (which has yet to confirm how many episodes it will last this Spring), but can also catch up on the first three seasons of Demon Slayer along with the Demon Slayer: Mugen Train Arc movie streaming there as well while we wait for what's next.

Original Charmed Star Regrets Not Returning for Finale https://comicbook.com/irl/news/original-charmed-star-shannen-doherty-regrets-not-returning-series-finale-fans/ Wed, 22 May 2024 23:17:00 +0000 Nicole Drum 429e76ab-4991-4037-aab4-b0dd2d5fe9e4

When the original Charmed ended its eight-season run in 2006, the fan-favorite series concluded without an appearance from an original Halliwell sister, Prue. Now, nearly twenty years later, Shannen Doherty is opening up about how the iconic series ended and says that not returning as Prue for the Charmed series finale for the fans is something she regrets -- but it is also the only thing she regrets when it comes to Charmed's end. In the latest episode of her Let's Be Clear With Shannen Doherty podcast, Doherty says that while she regrets not doing it for the fans, it would have wrecked her personally to have returned.

"I regret it in one sense," Doherty said (via Entertainment Weekly). "I regret it for the fans. But I don't regret it for me, because I was so incredibly wrecked from getting fired that, I think, even years, years, years later, had I walked on that set, it just would've stirred everything back up for me. And it would have crushed me all over again."

Doherty was one of the original stars of Charmed, playing Prue Halliwell the eldest Halliwell sister. However, Doherty departed the series after just three seasons and, on a December 2023 episode of Doherty's podcast, Holly Marie Combs -- who played Piper Halliwell -- revealed that she had been told by series producer Jonathan Levin at the time that fellow co-star Alyssa Milano had given them an ultimatum that led to Doherty's firing from the series. Doherty was ultimately replaced by Rose McGowan, who joined the series as Paige in Season 4.

"'We didn't mean to, but we've been backed into this corner -- we're basically in this position where it's one or the other,'" Combs recalls Jonathan Levin saying at the time. "'We were told [by Alyssa] it's her or [Shannen] and Alyssa has threatened to sue us or a hostile workplace environment.'"

"I lived a year after that sort of replaying everything in my brain and really trying to find those moments. I don't ever remember being mean to her on set," Doherty added. "I remember an episode I directed where she did something on the Christmas break and they asked me to work around some things with her and I had no problem with it. I couldn't have been more kind and understanding."

"I wish I had been older and wiser, because I definitely would have sued, and I would have been honest about the situation," Doherty continued. "The rumors followed me regardless. The rumors were there and I wasn't getting paid. It makes you look crazy when you leave a hit show only after three seasons."

Alyssa Milano Addressed The Claims Back in February

"I knew this was going to come up in one way or another, and I want to be very thoughtful in how I respond to any of this, and I will just say that I'm sad," Milano told the audience at MegaCon in Orlando. "I don't think it's really that I'm sad for me or my life or how it does or does not affect my life."

"I'm the most sad for the fans. I am the most sad that a show that has meant so much to so many people has been tarnished by a toxicity that is still to this day almost a quarter of a century later still happening," she continued. "I'm sad that people can't move past it. I'm sad that we all can't just celebrate the success of a show that meant so much to all of us. I have worked super hard in my life in the last 25 years to heal all of my trauma, and that's not just all the trauma that I experienced while shooting but all of my trauma. I've worked really hard to heal the bits because I understand that hurt people hurt people and my intention is to be a healed person that helps heal people," she added.

Disneyland Announces Fantasmic! Reopening Date https://comicbook.com/irl/news/disneyland-fantasmic-reopening-date-without-maleficent-dragon/ Wed, 22 May 2024 20:00:00 +0000 Cameron Bonomolo 3be2950c-b096-4a34-b4af-ca643435c293

It's not your imagination: Fantasmic! is back at the Disneyland Resort.

Disney Parks announced that the California theme park's longest-running nighttime spectacular returns with updated special effects this Friday, May 24. It will be the first showing since the Maleficent dragon caught fire during a live performance in April 2023. In the wake of the incident, Disney temporarily suspended fire effects at select shows and entertainment experiences across all its theme parks "out of an abundance of caution" and put the 45-foot tall, fire-breathing audio-animatronic dragon on ice.

Fantasmic! returns without the Maleficent dragon, replaced by a reimagined battle scene between Sorcerer Mickey and Maleficent (pictured below). According to the official description, "Mickey gathers all his magical powers, creating colorful swirls of light as sparkling pyrotechnics bolt from his fingers. Cloaked in her dark gown with her powerful scepter in hand, Maleficent ascends to a height of 35 feet as she appears to ignite the Rivers of America."

The show will also restore a Peter Pan sequence that was replaced with Jack Sparrow and other Pirates of the Caribbean characters in 2017. In the updated swashbuckling scene, The Lost Boys will join Peter Pan and Wendy as they battle Captain Hook on a pirate ship.

"Our goal is to always deliver the best possible show for our guests," a Disneyland spokesperson said in a statement after Fantasmic! was temporarily shuttered last year, adding the nighttime show would return with "exciting new magic in spring 2024."

Originally opened in 1992, Fantasmic! finds Mickey Mouse facing menacing villains using the power of his imagination. Featuring characters and music from Fantasia, Sleeping Beauty, The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, The Lion King, Tangled, and more, the 25-minute show has incorporated state-of-the-art projections on mist screens and water effects alongside pyrotechnics, live performances, and character appearances.

Recently, an unofficial Bluey fan event in Las Vegas, Nevada did not go according to plan at all. People on social media were comparing it to the disastrous Wonka experience over in the United Kingdom. Dirt Dog, a restaurant in the city that put on the Bluey event, had to issue a statement to Fox 5 Vegas apologizing.

"We expected like maybe 50 to 60 people -- not in the sense of the whole city coming out," Taj Wilder, a spokesperson for the restaurant's marketing team explained. "Just now knowing who Bluey is, we would have planned ahead and would have had security. We're very much family. We love on each other, we support each other. We're going to continue to make events, create events, especially free ones, for families to come out and have a good time with us."

They continued, "To our Bluey Families: We are truly sorry this event wasn't the expected experience! We take pride in putting on community events for you and your families to enjoy. We have staff play out host characters for an added personal touch. We were overwhelmed with the turn out to this event, we will continue to improve on our events so we can ensure nothing like this will happen in the future. We apologize to the families that miss out on what we had to offer. We hope to repair our relationship with all of you."

Konosuba Cosplay Goes Goddess Level With Aqua https://comicbook.com/anime/news/konosuba-aqua-cosplay-anime/ Wed, 22 May 2024 00:37:00 +0000 Nick Valdez f576895a-4a1f-4197-ad49-66d54bfcd5fa

Konosuba: God's Blessing on this Wonderful World! is now halfway through its highly anticipated third season this Spring, and one awesome cosplay is showing the goddess Aqua some much deserved love! Konosuba has been one of the major bright spots of the Spring 2024 anime schedule. It's only one of the massively popular Isekai anime franchises that have come back this season with new episodes (and not the only one returning for its third season either), but the episodes thus far have properly demonstrated why Konosuba remains one of the best anime comedies that fans will ever get to see.

Konosuba: God's Blessing on this Wonderful World! is now halfway through its run for its third season this Spring, and Aqua really hasn't played a significant role in any of it. Hilariously enough, while Kazuma has made a fool of himself with the royal family in the first arc, Aqua instead has just been on the sidelines getting drunk the entire time. And honestly, it's probably the best way for Aqua to be in the anime's third season. Showing love to the goddess regardless is an awesome cosplay from artist @seracoss on Instagram, so check it out below:

Where to Watch Konosuba Season 3

Konosuba: God's Blessing on this Wonderful World! is already halfway into its run for Season 3 this Spring thus far, so there's no better time catch up with the anime (along with the dub for the new episodes) now streaming exclusively with Crunchyroll. If you wanted to catch up with everything that has happened in the anime so far, you can also find the first two seasons (complete with OVA specials), Crimson Legend movie, and the Megumin focused spin-off prequel An Explosion on this Wonderful World streaming with Crunchyroll as well for the currently complete franchise experience.

As for what to expect from the story seen in the new season, Crunchyroll teases Konosuba - God's Blessing on this Wonderful World Season 3 as such, "The dysfunctional party is back, but they may be short a member soon 'cause Kazuma is over it. Disillusioned with adventure, he wants to become a monk, but Aqua, Megumin, and Darkness call bull. However, the career dispute gets put on hold when a princess requests to hear all about their tales. Will the taste of fame at the royal castle keep them together or will this mark their farewell tour?"

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles rose to prominence in the late '80s and, by the early '90s, they became some of the most iconic figures in pop culture, as they were branded onto any product imaginable. Despite the decline of their popularity in subsequent decades, last year's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem revived excitement around the characters, not only among audiences who grew up with the heroes, but also in entirely new generations. With the Heroes in a Half Shell celebrating their 40th anniversary this year, Pop Culture Coffee is taking advantage of the revived excitement around the characters, releasing four signature flavors honoring each Ninja Turtle, which will be available both as ground coffee and as cold brew. The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles coffee is available to pre-order now at PopCultureCoffee.com.

Per press release, "Pop Culture Coffee, known for its unique collaborations with popular franchises, is expanding its agreement with Paramount Consumer Products in May to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles with a curated line of coffees, cold brews, and handspun mugs. The fun kicks off May 21st with a series of specially themed 'mutated' coffees that offer unique flavor combinations, as well as the first wave of the TMNT canned cold brew line of products."

"The 100% organic, ethically sourced, naturally and artificially flavored ground coffee bags each depict a Turtle in the style of the classic 1980s animated series which helped launch an enduring Turtle empire. PCC is also offering up four cold brews, each themed with 16-bit pixel art from the monolithic fan-favorite four-player arcade game by Konami, which debuted in 1989.

"Ulterior Motives" Singers Christopher Saint Booth and Philip Adrian Booth on Viral Fame and Giving Fans What They Want https://comicbook.com/irl/news/ulterior-motives-everyone-knows-that-christopher-saint-booth-philip-adrian-booth-viral-fame/ Tue, 21 May 2024 17:48:00 +0000 Russ Burlingame e2941cdb-dd04-4822-acb7-efb23d5d81c5

Last month, an enduring internet mystery was solved when fans figured out the "lostwave" song known colloquially as "Everyone Knows That" was in fact a 1980s song called "Ulterior Motives" by British-Canadian filmmakers Christopher Saint Booth and Philip Adrian Booth. The duo wrote the song in 1986, and sold it to an adult film that same year. It was never commercially released outside of the context of the movie, and was a footnote in their career, which involved years in pop music followed by years making film and TV projects, largely in the horror genre. Then, on April 28, 2024, they discovered that a group of passionate fans had been obsessed with the song for a couple of years.

A 17-second clip from the song was posted to song identification website WatZatSong in 2021 by a user with the handle Carl92. Carl said he found the snippet mixed in with some old DVD backups, and that he had likely recorded it off the TV and used it to teach himself audio editing. Years later, he wanted to listen to the song in full, but had no idea where it came from.

"I saw on one of the [Instagram] posts for - we make motion pictures and TV shows, and do all the music - it was a weird post, and I thought it was maybe, possibly trolling," Christopher Saint Booth told ComicBook. "I didn't really get it - it didn't connect for me. And then somebody had sent me, 'Don't you know? Check out Reddit. Check out Rolling Stone.' And then I looked at it and I said, 'Okay.' And then I clicked on that pink boombox and I was like, 'Oh my God, that's our song.' That's how we figured it out. I'm still finding out things today that were posted many, many years ago that is blowing me away."

nextplay-boombox.jpg
(Photo: gettheseclothes/DePop)

The pink boombox in question is the NextPlay "Glitz and Glitter" boombox. Released in the mid-2000s, the sparkly, pink-and-white boombox has become closely associated with "Ulterior Motives," with a photo of one having been used as the thumbnail image in one of the most widely-viewed YouTube videos featuring the song clip. The boombox itself - and the video, which features the boombox sitting in a pink, fluffy environment - have nothing to do with the song or with the adult film in which it was featured. It was chosen just because the poster felt like it fit the "vibe" of the song.

"It's kind of like - wow! The universe shifted, and it's like, 'You guys have got to do some '80s music, boom," Booth added.

"This had been going on since 2021, and we had no idea," Philip Adrian Booth added. "On April 28th, they put names to the lost song, and then our phones and social media and the news and everyone started texting us, like, 'Did you know this is going on?' My daughter said, 'This is all over TikTok.' To hear it from your kids is pretty amazing. It's like, 'You're all over, we're so proud of you.'"

Christopher chimed in to add, "My son Gabriel, he's 16 so he's a big social media, Redditor, TikToker, and he went, 'Dad, you're God on the internet,' and I went 'What?' And then he showed me and he said he was really proud. You always want to impress your family, your children, and it made me very proud. But it's still very - it's numbing. It's a foggy thing. I don't think it's really sunk in still."

The song is catchy - so much so that it quickly became one of the most sought-after lost songs on the internet, and the search got its own subreddit - ironically called "Everyone Knows That." The irony? Per the Booth brothers and the original lyrics they unearthed, the lyrics actually say "everyone knows it," not "that." The most common way to refer to the song was the result of a misheard lyric.

"When it first happened and we started looking at the Reddit, and there were so many of those people - so many internet sleuths - and going on TikTok and seeing all of those people singing our song and miming our song...I can't describe how rewarding that is," Philip told us.

"It's like our version of going into an arena, and 40,000 people were singing your song," Christopher added."

"It's a positive, incredible experience," Philip added. "In today's world, things like that just don't happen, so our heads are still spinning from it all. We first thought, 'What's the next step?'"

The pair have projects - musically and in the film and TV space - that are already in progress, but almost immediately after they learned of "Ulterior Motives" having viral success, they dedicated themselves to getting the song released. In fact, while digging through old files and master tapes, they have decided to put together an album of their unreleased 1980s pop material, hoping that fans will be excited by more than just the mystery behind one song.

"I sat in the studio, and I'm still going through old CDs and cassettes - the quality of a cassette now that's kept for 40 years is diminished - but I'm still going through stuff and finding tracks that we did then. I'm still searching for the vocals for 'Ulterior Motives,'" Christopher said. "We do have the rhythm track, and it sounds great, but we don't have the lead guitar, the synth hits, and we don't have the vocals. But since I'm the singer, I can copy most of it. So we're going to look for it, and if not, we're going to go in and re-record the parts. Part of it is going to be 100% original."

Christopher added that the MIDI guitar used on the original track is also one he still owns, so if they can't find the originals, he has the best gear possible to replicate the sound as closely as he can. While the pair have obviously grown as artists in the intervening decades, they don't want to put too much of a spin on the first commercial release for "Ulterior Motives." Instead, they would rather give the audience exactly what they're expecting - or as exactly as they possibly can.

"I think it's important to keep the same flavor," Philip said. "I think how to adapt that is, give the people what they want and keep it as original as you can, and then maybe do an EP version and slam a couple of remixes on it. That way they can get what they want, and what they don't want, they don't have to listen to."

Like nearly everyone who works in "genre" film and TV, Christopher and Philip Booth spend a fair amount of time at fan conventions. It's an interesting time, because in addition to the normal fans of their more recent work onscreen, Christopher has been posting photos from signing appearances where they have been posing with pink boomboxes.

"There's millions of views on TikTok videos, and I know that all of my social media sites have quadrupled with many new, younger fans," Christopher told us. "Music is our first love, and I've never quit music. Even when we do movies, I do all of the soundtracks, and I've invested a lot in my studio. Obviously, we have commitments, and we're going to finish those, but at the same time, there's absolutely no way we can walk away from this."

"This kind of thing doesn't just happen," Philip added. "It seems like a big injustice not to take advantage of the situation, all these people, it makes them so happy, and the high of seeing them sing it or whatever, there's no better feeling than that....We put many decades into music, and we've been doing it a long time. Chris and I go way back to a band, here's some trivia for you, a band called Sweeney Todd. And they were really big in Canada, and they had a hit song in the late '70s, early '80s, called Roxy Roller. And the lead singer was a guy named Nick Gilder, and he had 'Hot Child in the City,' and he sold and wrote songs to Scandal, they were very '80s. And then, Bryan Adams replaced him. And then, when Bryan Adams left the band, Chris replaced him as a singer, and I replaced as a guitar player. And we played with our brother who was the original member of Sweeney Todd. And that's kind of how all this got started in the early '80s We had some pretty big success back then in bands."

"I remember the day I turned 18, I was playing for 20,000 people in an arena," Christopher added.

The two recalled that, in the early days of their time living in the U.S., they opened for Motley Crue and played big venues like The Troubador and The Roxy, getting to know the likes of Vince Neil and U2.

"We have done a lot of things after that and musically, and even singing-wise, I got a lot better," Christopher told us, adding that since the tapes used for "Ulterior Motives" may have even been demos, the song itself is a little rough around the edges. "It's not perfect. There was no Auto-Tune, at all, so it is what it is. But, at the same time, I'm listening to all these people singing this song and loving it, and I'm finding I'm singing it, and it's our own song. Maybe back then we didn't even care for it, because you know how you are. But now we love it, so I'm really pumped to do a whole '80s album at this point."

After years of searching, digging through copyright filings, bugging members of other bands, and all the general dead ends of a lost media search, some fans were exasperated to discover "Ulterior Motives" on an adult film (1986's Angels of Passion). The Booths say they didn't write the song for the movie, but that some of their music ended up in adult films simply because it was a way to make some extra money off unused material.

"We've never really written for adult films," Christopher said. "We were musicians, and we needed money. A friend of ours was, at that time, was making what were very big budget adult films -- they were $250,000.00 a film. These guys were making them, and we didn't know anything about it, but it was like, 'Hey, do you want to make a couple extra hundred dollars today and help move equipment or do this?' and I went, 'Sure. It don't matter to me. We just need to pay the rent.' We just went and did our job and walked out, when they started doing their nastiness, we never really hung around. And then, they said, 'Hey, we need some music. Do you got any music?' so I said, 'Yeah, we've got some music,' because what we did is we took all that money and bought better equipment, old Fostex boards, and it kept going and going and going."

Philip said that it was a great experience for them - one that would pay off later in their film career - to see productions of that scope at work. Comparing the productions to Boogie Nights, Philip said that the movies were all shot on film at that point, and then mixed with "like 128 tracks" on huge sound stages.

"Actually, there was two tracks of music and 126 tracks of moaning and groaning, but they would mix these on these huge screens and sound stages," Christopher joked.

More seriously, he added, "We were never really bored. I would just go into studio and I would sit down and write music. And, of course, I was always a romantic, and my music was always kind of sexy, so they liked it. I don't know how you can write music to a hardcore sex scene, you know? Unless you're Nine Inch Nails, 'Closer,' which is very cool as well. A lot of people made fun of us, and they still do, and I get that. But, at the same time, when I became a businessman, I went ahead and registered all those songs with the BMI, and they turned all those films into erotic thrillers, and I got an incredible amount of royalties for the music over the next 10 years. So, I felt really good about being a musician, making money."

And the next step is getting back to that a little bit. The "businessman" side has had to step forward a bit since the song was found, especially since the pair are worried that all the copycats and unauthorized covers - and now, dubs from the movie - that are circulating online might make it harder for them to monetize any music videos and digital sales once the new album hits. They're reaching out to fans to ask that they pause on uploading that kind of thing while the record is finished and the original song can finally be released for the first time. In the meantime, it sounds like they won't have to go totally on their own for the project.

"We have been asked by record companies to do it on vinyl and back on cassette, because I know cassette is making a comeback," Christopher said. "I think that we'll do is, we'll go ahead and get all the tracks ready and we'll get 'Ulterior Motives' in a good place. And then, we'll have some of the other tracks, in case people want to hear more. Obviously, streaming is a tough business to make any monetary gain out of it, but it's instant gratification for people streaming. I love CDs still, and I love vinyl. I print everything I do on CDs. I haven't done a vinyl yet, but I definitely think that this music could be savvy for that."

Philip added, "I think if they love the hook of 'Ulterior Motives,' we've got quite a few songs that we were listening to, that are just as amazing. It opens up that door, because I can only imagine, if you love that song, how much you're going to love this other one. It's definitely busy, while we're making our films and doing that, I don't think we can walk away from this. I think we have to seriously look and say, 'We've got to make time for this,' because this doesn't happen every day. You don't get notoriety like that every day. I think it's important to give those people -- they made us feel like a million dollars when this happened -- and I think we need to return the favor and release this song, exactly how they liked it. And if they want more, we've got more."

Dragon Ball Cosplay Showcases Wild Take on Kid Goku https://comicbook.com/anime/news/dragon-ball-kid-goku-cosplay-anime/ Tue, 21 May 2024 00:40:00 +0000 Nick Valdez 2a1d808f-2d73-479e-8012-743f5fa35630

Dragon Ball will be celebrating its 40th anniversary later this Fall, and one bizarre cosplay is already shaking things up for Kid Goku! To celebrate the 40th anniversary of Akira Toriyama's Dragon Ball manga first making its debut in the pages of Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine, Shueisha is going all out for the franchise with a special exhibition, new anime series and more. This new anime in particular will be going back to the beginning as it features Kid Goku in a starring role as it's shaking up the franchise's story in some very unforeseen ways.

Dragon Ball Daima will somehow turn all of the Z Fighters back into children, but there are still many mysteries as to the how or why this will be going down. What is known, however, is that this will kick off a new slate of adventures for a new Kid Goku as part of this milestone celebration for the Dragon Ball franchise. So while fans wait on a new Kid Goku coming later this Fall, artist Low Cost Cosplay on Instagram has shared a version of the character that fans likely would never expect to see. Check it out below:

What Is Dragon Ball Daima?

It won't be too long before we get more of our questions about Dragon Ball Daima answered as the brand new anime series is currently set to release some time later this Fall to help celebrate the franchise's 40th anniversary. It has yet to confirm a concrete release date as of the time of this publication, but the late Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama helped to craft the original main story and character designs for Dragon Ball Daima. Yoshitaka Yashima and Aya Komaki are directing the series for Toei Animation, Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru is adapting Toriyama's designs for animation, and Yuuko Kakihara is supervising and writing the scripts.

Masako Nozawa is returning to the anime to once again provide the voice for Kid Goku, and she is currently the only confirmed member of Dragon Ball Daima's voice cast announced so far. Akira Toriyama previously teased the original story for Dragon Ball Daima as such before his passing, "Due to a conspiracy, Goku and his friends are turned small. In order to fix things, they'll head off to a new world! It's a grand adventure with intense action in an unknown and mysterious world. Since Goku has to make up for his petite size, he uses his Power Pole to fight, something not seen in a long time."

Deadpool & Wolverine Star Hugh Jackman Opens Up on Why He Returned to Marvel https://comicbook.com/movies/news/deadpool-3-wolverine-hugh-jackman-return-explained-mcu/ Mon, 20 May 2024 14:58:00 +0000 Kofi Outlaw 50f10a92-77f0-4422-be72-5ebd45206c66

Why did Hugh Jackman return to the role of Wolverine for the upcoming Deadpool & Wolverine movie? In Jackman's own words: a feeling "deep in my gut" told him he needed to make things right with Marvel fnas.

Hugh Jackman joined Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds and Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy for an interview with Rotten Tomatoes' Jacqueline Coley, and one of the biggest clips from the interview (which you can watch in the video below) is Hugh Jackman explaining why he suited up as Wolverine again. After insisting to the world, for years, that he was done with the character after Logan (2017), the announcement that Deadpool & Wolverine was happening left fans equally hyped and shocked about that development with Deadpool 3.

"I was on my way - I was just driving - and literally just like a bolt of lightning came this knowing, deep in my gut, that I wanted to do this film with Ryan... for Deadpool and Wolverine to come together. And Jacqueline, I swear to you, when I said I was done I really thought I was done. But, in the back of my head, ever since I saw Deadpool 1, I was like 'Those two characters together...' I knew it: I knew the fans wanted it. Ever since I put on the claws fans have talked about these two, so that had always been there, but I just knew."

Jackman is right that Marvel fans have wanted to see Wolverine and Deadpool paired onscreen since the first X-Men movies of the early 2000s. Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman had fans thinking they were getting that team-up with X-Men Origins: Wolverine in 2009 when Reynolds was cast as Wade Wilson for the first time. Instead, X-Men Origins became infamous for a bait-and-switch that had Reynolds only appear in a bit role, before the climax of the film substituted martial arts actor Scott Adkins for Reynolds, to play a bastardized version of Deadpool, who became the ultimate bio-weapon of Major Stryker (Danny Huston). Fans were appalled to see their fan-favorite character Deadpool represented that way onscreen, and have been waiting to get a proper Wolverine and Deadpool team-up ever since.

Obviously, Hugh Jackman has never forgotten the debt owed to Marvel fans - one he felt compelled to pay by way of doing Deadpool & Wolverine. And to hear him tell it, Jackman is giddy to be making restitution:

"I literally could not wait to arrive; as soon as I arrived I rang Ryan and I said 'Let's do it.' Like, I hadn't rung my agent, no one! I had to ring my agent [after] and say 'Oh, by the way, I've just committed to a movie.' [laughs]."

What Is Deadpool & Wolverine About?

deadpool-wolverine-hugh-jackman-suit.png

The trailer and early synopsis for Deadpool & Wolverine have teased the story of Wade Wilson (Reynolds) being detained by the TVA and sent on a mission. Wade recruits an emotionally-broken Wolverine variant from a dark timeline where the X-Men died, and their mission takes them to the multiversal wasteland the TVA has been using as a dumping ground, and where the beast Alioth (as seen in Loki) roams. Somewhere in that mix is Cassandra Nova (Emma Corin), a villain with deep ties to Charles Xavier, and a malevolent history in X-Men comics.

There have been teases of former Fox-Marvel movie stars coming back en masse for cameos in Deadpool & Wolverine - and even mega-star Taylor Swift appearing in the film as an iconic X-Men character. Despite there being a menagerie of cameos appearances expected in Deadpool 3, Shawn Levy has promised MCU fans are not required to do any "homework" to enjoy the film:

"I was a good student in school. I'll do my homework as an adult. But I am definitely not looking to do homework when I go to the movies," Levy told AP. "I very much made this film with certainly a healthy respect and gratitude towards the rabid fan base that has peak fluency in the mythology and lore of these characters and this world. But I didn't want to presume that. This movie is built for entertainment, with no obligation to come prepared with prior research."

Deadpool & Wolverine has a release date of July 26th - the 11th Anniversary of The Wolverine's release.

Dragon Ball Cosplay Goes Next Level With Piccolo https://comicbook.com/anime/news/dragon-ball-piccolo-cosplay-anime/ Mon, 20 May 2024 00:39:00 +0000 Nick Valdez abcd46de-3522-493d-a133-d00faa994a78

Piccolo has been one of the mainstays of the Dragon Ball franchise for quite a long time, an one awesome cosplay has brought the Namekian to life in a creative way! Dragon Ball will officially be celebrating the 40th anniversary of the manga first hitting the pages of Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine later this Fall, and while original creator Akira Toriyama may no longer be with us, it's hard to deny how much of an impact the creator has had on fans through the decades. This is thanks to the strength of its characters like Piccolo who have had huge moments in the various anime and manga releases.

Piccolo might have originally been introduced to the Dragon Ball series as one of Goku's biggest enemies, but over the years became one of Goku's fiercest and most powerful allies as the series reached higher heights than ever before. As Dragon Ball rounds out 40 years with a future that's currently unknown as of the time of this publication, there's no better time than ever to highlight Piccolo's role in everything that's gone down. Artist artistjodysteel on Instagram has done just that with an awesome Piccolo cosplay that brings the Namekian to life through excellent makeup skills! Check it out:

Taco Bell Brings Back Fan Favorite Menu Item By Popular Demand https://comicbook.com/irl/news/taco-bell-brings-back-cheesy-chicken-crispanada/ Sat, 18 May 2024 04:51:00 +0000 Nicole Drum b7d45105-80ef-4aad-82d4-63604c10cfce

Taco Bell has brought back a fan favorite menu item thanks to popular demand just a few months after it left menus. On Thursday, Taco Bell announced the return of the Cheesy Chicken Crispanada, though fans of the popular menu item will want to act fast as it is back only for a limited time.

The Cheesy Chicken Crispanada was first unveiled at Taco Bell's Liv Mas event earlier this year and hit menus back in February. Despite it being a new item -- a cheese and shredded chicken packed fried empanada -- the item has proven to be very popular with customers who were vocal about wanting to see it return.

"Taco Bell's commitment to push the boundaries of food creativity and innovation is grounded in its fusion-first ethos, creating a synergy where beloved flavors and forms come together to produce something entirely new," Taco Bell said when the menu item was first introduced. "The Cheesy Chicken Crispanada is a testament to Taco Bell's collaborative creativity, featuring up-leveled ingredients, unique new formats and unexpected flavors that modernize the menu while celebrating the Mexican-inspired roots that have long been at the heart of Taco Bell."

The Cheesy Chicken Crispanada is available for $3.49 at participating locations. As was noted above, they are available for a limited time.

In other fast food news, McDonald's just announced their latest menu offering, the new Grandma McFlurry, which will be available May 21st. According to McDonald's, the new Grandma McFlurry is sweet "just like grandma" and features a delicious syrup with chopped crunchy candy pieces -- like grandma's favorite treat that she hid in her purse -- blended in McDonald's creamy vanilla soft serve. McDonald's says it's perfect to enjoy yourself, or to share with the grandma or grandma-figure in your life. The new McFlurry was developed by a member of the McDonald's culinary team who just so happens to be a grandmother herself.

"The new Grandma McFlurry was created a Culinary team member who is a grandmother herself," Marcelo Fajnerman, VP Menu Strategy said. "She was relentless in perfecting a deliciously craveable treat meant to evoke special memories with grandma or the grandma-figure in your life, drawing from her own experiences."

"Grandmas have always held a special place in our hearts, and today they're having a major moment influencing our culture -- inspiring trends in fashion, decor, and now, even food with our newest McFlurry," Tariq Hassan, Chief Marketing and Customer Experience Officer at McDonald's said. "The Grandma McFlurry tastes like a trip down memory lane, and we're excited to give our fans that experience while honoring the grandma-figure in all our lives."

IF (2024) Review

ComicBook critic Jamie Jirak's IF movie review gives the film 3.5 out of 5 stars:

The film does a good job of reminding its audience that there's a kid in all of us, and that time can never truly take away your imagination. It's been a while since I looked around in a theater and saw multiple grown men shedding a tear. Krasinski knows how to appeal to parents, especially dads. While IF may not be a perfectly pieced-together movie, there's enough heart embedded in its core to make it a worthy trip to the cinema for families. The cast is delightful, the IFs are magical, and the warmth is undeniable.

The sad news broke yesterday that Tony McFarr, the stuntman best known for doubling Chris Pratt, had passed away at age 47. The cause of McFarr's death is currently unknown, but it was revealed that he died on May 13th at his home outside of Orlando, Florida. McFarr had 60 stunt credits to his name and doubled Pratt on Passengers, Jurassic World, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, and Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. Yesterday, Pratt took to his Instagram stories to pay tribute to McFarr and share photos of them together on set.

"Devastated to hear about the loss of my friend and former stunt double Tony McFarr," Pratt wrote. "We did several movies together. We golfed, drank whiskey, smoked cigars, and spent endless hours on set. I'll never forget his toughness. I remember he took a nasty shot to the head (in the title sequence of 'Guardians 2') and got several staples in his head came right back to work ready to go again. He was an absolute stud."

"He was always a gentleman and professional," Pratt continued. "He'll be missed. My prayers go out to his friends and family, especially his daughter." You can view an image Pratt posted below, and see more of his stories here.

His film credits included Rock of Ages, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1, Furious 7, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2, Captain America: Civil War, Logan Lucky, Pitch Perfect 3, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, Ant-Man and the Wasp, The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, and more.

His final credit was for the short film, Grobb, in 2022. He also had a few acting credits to his name, including episodes of Burn Notice, One Tree Hill, and MacGyver. During his career, he was nominated for three Screen Actors Guild Awards for "Outstanding Action Performance by a Stunt Ensemble in a Motion Picture" for Transformers: Dark Side of the Moon, Jurassic World, and Ant-Man and the Wasp.

Our thoughts are with McFarr's family and friends, including Chris Pratt, at this difficult time.

Twitter Officially Rebrands as X.com, Drops Twitter URL https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/twitter-rebrands-x-com-url/ Fri, 17 May 2024 16:55:00 +0000 Tanner Dedmon c69889f2-47fb-46b9-a19c-b4331c64fc1e

One of the last holdouts of the old Twitter has now been removed with Twitter.com officially rebranded as X.com overnight. This marks the latest -- and presumably one of the last -- efforts to fully move the social media platform over to Elon Musk's preferred "X" branding following the erasure of other remnants of Twitter such as tweets themselves. Musk confirmed the change himself this week while referencing the old logo of previous efforts to make X.com a thing before it finally came to fruition after the Twitter takeover.

Musk tweeted about the conversion over on what's now formally known as X.com by saying "All core systems are now on X.com." What he means by this is that if you follow the link here and see his tweet, you'll notice that your URL for the post should start with "x.com" now. This differs from the previous URL which has always started with "twitter.com" even after Musk took over, though you could sometimes see the "x.com" link when using the "share" button to send the tweets elsewhere.

The functionality of these URLs and the X platform remain the same regardless of the change, however, so this is really just more of a continued effort to finalize the X rebranding than anything that'd have an actual effect on users. While some changes made during the switch from Twitter to X have come off as abrasive or unnecessary to many users, ones like this URL change won't really matter much in regards to how you use X since old Twitter links including "twitter.com" itself now just default to the same page but with an "x.com" domain instead. Other changes made in a similar fashion prior to this one include rebranding "tweets" as simply "posts."

twitter-x-rebranding.jpg

The old logo in Musk's tweet above harkens back to the early days of PayPal whenever "X" was a proposed name for that company as well, though it was met with opposition which eventually overcame the suggestion. Musk's spacefaring company SpaceX showed that he still had visions for "X" in some form or another, and the Twitter rebranding finally achieved at least that goal by converting the social platform over to X.

Still, there will be those who will continue to call X "Twitter" whether out of habit or defiance to Musk's sometimes abrasive decisions. Considering the branding Twitter previously had with its blue bird icon and the fact that it made "tweet" so prolific that it transcended from noun to verb, "tweet" is just easier and more ingrained for most users who aren't making the change simply out of loyalty to Musk's initiatives.

Horizon: An American Saga Trailer 2 Showcases Kevin Costner's Civil War Western https://comicbook.com/movies/news/horizon-an-american-saga-trailer-2-kevin-costner/ Fri, 17 May 2024 13:32:00 +0000 Kofi Outlaw 9133db44-2977-4b9e-a23a-2a5cc08a7099

The new trailer for Kevin Costner's Horizon: An American Saga reveals even more of the grand epic western that Costner has made, set in the era of the American Civil War.

As you can see in the trailer below, the footage that Costner has captured is pretty great. Pretty pictures don't necessarily promise that this lengthy, two-part cinematic story will hold together as a sweeping narrative - or that Costner can capture and maintain tone, style, and rhythm as a director, but he certainly has a stacked cast of performers to help him get there.

The cast of Horizon: An American Saga includes Sienna Miller, Sam Worthington, Jena Malone, Owen Crow Shoe, Tatanka Means, Ella Hunt, Tim Guinee, Danny Huston, Colin Cunningham, Scott Haze, Tom Payne, Abbey Lee, Michael Rooker, Will Patton, Georgia MacPhail, Douglas Smith, Luke Wilson, Isabelle Fuhrman, Jamie Campbell Bower, Alejandro Edda, Was? Winyan Chief, Michael Anganaro, Angus Macfadyen, Jon Beavers, Alex Nibley, Kathleen Quinlan, Etienne Kellici, Amos Jason Charging Cloud, Bodhi Okuma Linton, Gregory Cruz, James Russo, Jeff Fahey, David O'Hara, Chris Conner, Leroy M. Silva, Bernardo Velasco, Tom Everett, Glynn Turman, Giovanni Ribisi and more.

What Is Horizon: An American Saga About?

As per the synopsis from Warner Bros and New Line:

Academy Award-winning visionary filmmaker Kevin Costner directs New Line Cinema's vast "Horizon: An American Saga" Chapters One and Two, a multi-faceted chronicle covering the Civil War expansion and settlement of the American West. A story of America too big for one film, this true cinematic event also stars Costner, who co-writes with Jon Baird ("The Explorers Guild") and produces through his Territory Pictures.

In the great tradition of Warner Bros. Pictures' iconic Westerns, "Horizon: An American Saga" explores the lure of the Old West and how it was won-and lost-through the blood, sweat and tears of many. Spanning the four years of the Civil War, from 1861 to 1865, Costner's ambitious cinematic adventure will take audiences on an emotional journey across a country at war with itself, experienced through the lens of families, friends and foes all attempting to discover what it truly means to be the United States of America.

Horizon: An American Saga - Part 1 will be released in theaters on June 28th. Part 2 has a release date of August 16th.

Is IF (2024) Too Scary For Kids? A Spoiler-Free Answer For Parents https://comicbook.com/movies/news/is-if-movie-2024-scary-sad-for-kids-rating-reviews/ Thu, 16 May 2024 20:39:00 +0000 Kofi Outlaw aafe2fae-2a0a-44df-b102-0ced9e0cef08

Is Paramount's IF (2024) movie too scary or sad for kids? A lot of parents are asking that question as IF (2024) opens in theaters - and we have the spoiler-free answer to share!

What Is IF (2024) About?

From writer and director John Krasinski, IF is about a young girl named Bea, who has been going through a troubling experience in her life, unexpectedly gains the ability to see people's imaginary friends (referred to as "IFs" for short) who have been abandoned by the kids they helped. Bea then discovers that her neighbor, Cal, has the same ability. Together they join forces to reunite the IFs with their former kids.

That's a nice, whimsical, synopsis - but it doesn't necessarily let parents in on the fact that IF tackles serious subject matter that may be too intense for younger children. Although the film has a PG rating, it's in the details of that rating that the devil lies: "Rated PG for thematic elements and mild language."

Is IF (2024) Too Scary or Sad For Kids?

is-if-movie-2024-too-scary-sad-for-kids-rating.jpg
(Photo: Paramount Pictures)

Those "thematic elements" warned about in the PG rating for IF have to do with the premise of the story. The young protagonist, Bea (Cailey Fleming), is a girl going through the unthinkable trauma of having lost a parent while having the other parent facing a perilous health scare. It's the stress of that situation that makes Bea seek comfort and purpose in the plight of the Imaginary Friends.

When IF takes that detour into the coping and healing power of fanciful imagination through its menagerie of Imaginary Friends, the film is great for kids. However, it is admittedly a hard entryway into the film, with director John Krasinski giving viewers a UP-style montage of happy family experiences that end in deep tragedy. If that isn't a portion of the film that's too emotionally stressful for young kids (6 or younger), then it is arguably too "adult" and dramatic to really grab their attention - until the colorful IF characters start showing up. Similarly, the ending of IF requires that viewers once again leave all the imaginative fun behind and deal with the real-world stakes that Bea has to deal with.

There's nothing in these bookending portions of IF that is inherently bad or disturbing for kids; however, parents of young ones may want to be aware of these elements in the film BEFORE determining whether or not it's suitable for the family.

Ironically enough, all of the aforementioned content in IF's story is arguably more upsetting for parents, who may find concepts like untimely deaths, leaving a child orphaned, or anxiety about health concerns, stressful in a family film experience.

IF (2024) is now showing in theaters.

Shōgun Season 2 & Season 3 Reportedly In Development at FX-Hulu https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/shogun-season-2-season-3-in-development-fx-hulu/ Thu, 16 May 2024 19:54:00 +0000 Kofi Outlaw 9eeea8e0-b2fe-4bf8-a081-893e1af19d18

Sh?gun is officially getting Season 2 - and Season 3 - according to the latest reports. This news comes right on the heels of Sh?gun star Hiroyuki Sanada signing a deal to return as Lord Yoshii Toranaga in Season 2, which was an early indicator that Hulu and FX were indeed going to continue the series beyond the end of author James Clavell's source novel.

Before Sh?gun book fans get to concerned; Seasons 2 and 3 of the TV series are reportedly being developed with the estate of James Clavell fully involved. A writers' room for Sh?gun Season 2 is set to begin this summer. Showrunners Justin Marks and Rachel Kondo are still onboard, as is Season 1 executive producer Michaela Clavell for the Clavell estate, with Hiroyuki Sanada still serving as producer alongside his starring role as Toranaga.

There is one small asterisk still hanging over this Sh?gun renewal news: Variety's report notes that "this is not a formal renewal" for the series, and that "no production has been scheduled for more episodes."

The conspiracy theory that's being whispered is that FX-Hulu could be indicating that Sh?gun is getting additional seasons in order to get the series in the dramatic series categories at this year's Emmys. As a "limited series," Sh?gun's potential for awards wins was strictly limited, compared to all the categories it could compete in win in as a dramatic ongoing series. So far, all of the moves being made are ones that the studio can make to secure Emmy Awards victory without any significant investment in actual production or salaries. If Sh?gun wins big (as expected), additional seasons can quickly go into production; if Emmys visibility and wins don't increase Sh?gun's profile sufficiently, these new seasons could be abandoned, which would still leave the achievement of one of the best limited series of recent years.

What Would Sh?gun Season 2 Be About?

will-shogun-get-season-2-canceled-renwed-ending.jpg
(Photo: FX / Hulu)

Sh?gun wasn't a fictional work by James Clavell: it was a dramatization of actual historical events. Clavell spent years researching 17th-century Japanese history to create his novel's story and characters - many of whom (Blackthorne, Toranaga, Mariko, Ishido) are fictionalized versions of real historical figures. Clavell's novel was focused on its collection of principal characters (Blackthorne, Toranaga, Mariko) and how their fates converged to change the fate of Japan - it did not cover what happened after that character connection was severed.

History and its subsequent events are all on the table for Sh?gun Season 2 to explore. It would be different in terms of characters and tone from the original novel, but the next season could continue focusing on Toranaga and his quest to gain (or hold onto) power over Japan.

For Disney (owner of FX and Hulu) it's an opportunity to keep its biggest prestige content win going, and possibly expand it into a whole franchise of spinoff series. The same has worked for Game of Thrones (which led to the prequel series House of the Dragon becoming a major hit). In Sh?gun's case, history has already written the source material needed to mine more to fill Seasons 2 and 3

Sh?gun is now streaming on Hulu and Disney+ (with the Hulu bundle).

McDonald's Sweetens Up Summer With New Grandma McFlurry https://comicbook.com/irl/news/mcdonalds-sweetens-up-summer-with-new-grandma-mcflurry/ Thu, 16 May 2024 11:00:00 +0000 Nicole Drum 95dd6f48-48db-489e-8f7a-334572ffc23c

McDonald's is celebrating grandmas everywhere with what might be there sweetest treat to date. On Thursday, McDonald's announced the introduction of their newest McFlurry, the Grandma McFlurry, a limited edition treat coming to McDonald's this summer to celebrate grandma as well as recreated cherished moments spent with her. The new treat arrives at McDonald's on May 21st.

McDonald's says it's perfect to enjoy yourself, or to share with the grandma or grandma-figure in your life. The new McFlurry was developed by a member of the McDonald's culinary team who just so happens to be a grandmother herself.

Sabrina the Teenage Witch Star Melissa Joan Hart Reveals What Strange Prop She Took From Set https://comicbook.com/irl/news/sabrina-the-teenage-witch-star-melissa-joan-hart-reveals-what-strange-prop-she-took-from-set/ Thu, 16 May 2024 03:22:00 +0000 Nicole Drum 91558145-67b1-4a78-8aef-676ce36b567b

It's been more than 20 years since the series finale of Sabrina the Teenage Witch aired and now, series star Melissa Joan Hart is revealing what might be the most interesting prop that she took from set. Speaking with People. Hart revealed that she has a number of things from her time on Sabrina the Teenage Witch -- but the one that tops them all is a piece of her face.

"I do have some candlestick holders. In my pantry, I have some Italian pottery things that hung on the wall," Hart said. "I have a piece of my face from the episode where I fell apart, which I think was called 'Falling to Pieces' or something about pieces of Sabrina."

The episode referenced is the Season 6 finale, "I Fall to Pieces", which sees Sabrina turned to stone and, as a result, falling to pieces. Hart went on to detail that she also has a piece of an airplane propeller that came from the first episode of the series that she directed, sharing that the whole crew signed it for her.

Hart Has Previously Credited Salem the Cat With Helping Her Take Home Props

Hart has previously revealed that the cat who played Salem unexpectedly helped her take items from the show's set, thanks to a mishap in which the cat created just enough chaos that she and other cast members were able to take things.

"I took everything" Hart said when asked if she took anything from set. "Clothing, set pieces, things I don't even know how I got home."

But she does know how she managed to grab items: an escaped cat.

"We were all screaming and yelling on the night we rapped, so the cat freaked out and escaped," Hart explained. "We had to lock down the set to find the cat. It just freaked out, scratched the trainer to pieces and disappeared. Our sound stage was something like 22,000 square feet and we had to search the whole thing for that cat. While we walked around the set, we just stole so much stuff. Maybe I'll post some of it on Instagram and be like, 'Anyone recognize this?'"

Could There Be a Sabrina the Teenage Witch Reboot?

Originally airing from 1996 to 2003 -- the first four seasons aired on ABC and the final three on The WB -- Sabrina the Teenage Witch has long remained a fan favorite series, but while the Archie Comics series of the same name got a darker Netflix adaptation with The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, there have been no plans for a reboot of Hart's series, though she has previously said that she is not entirely opposed to the idea, so long as it was done right.

"I think it would be so much fun to be back with those people," Hart said. "I would want to assemble the same crew and cast. I see the appeal of it, for sure. And I would like to see what kind of storylines they'd come up with, but it would have to be done right."

Delicious in Dungeon Cosplay Gets Wacky With Marcille https://comicbook.com/anime/news/delicious-in-dungeon-marcille-anime-cosplay/ Thu, 16 May 2024 00:42:00 +0000 Nick Valdez 57fb4c4f-f783-40ec-9e58-9933ed252bf2

Delicious in Dungeon has been one of the biggest anime releases of the year, and now one awesome cosplay has gone viral with fans for showcasing just how wacky Marcille can be! The anime adaptation taking on Ryoko Kui's original manga series has been a hit with fans ever since it debuted earlier this year, and Delicious in Dungeon fans have been loving watching Laios and the rest of his party taking on monsters and eating different kinds of foods with them all along the way. But it's been a rather tough journey for the mage of the party, Marcille.

Marcille wasn't very open to the idea of eating monsters within the dungeon, but ultimately accepted the idea as Laios and the others needed to quickly head through the dungeon in order to rescue Falin. Delicious in Dungeon has really put Marcille through the wringer with all of the episodes seen thus far, and that was long before the more intense side of it all kicked in with the second half. Artist kitaro_cos on Instagram has tapped into Marcille's wacky shenanigans with a fun Delicious in Dungeon cosplay that's gone viral with fans for a reason! Check it out:

How to Watch Delicious in Dungeon

If you wanted to catch up with Delicious in Dungeon as it nears the end of the first season, you can find it now streaming with Netflix. They tease the anime as such, "Delicious in Dungeon. That is, 'to eat', or 'to be eaten' --- Within the depths of the dungeon, his younger sister was eaten by a Red Dragon - and adventurer Laios barely made it back to the surface with his life. He attempts the dungeon again, but money and food are deep within its bowels... Faced with the critical situation where his sister may be digested at any moment, Laios decides: 'Food shall be self-providing from within the dungeon!' Slimes, basilisks, mimics and even dragons! While eating those that attack you, aim to traverse the dungeons, adventurer!"

Delicious in Dungeon has been such a massive hit with Netflix since it kicked off its run earlier this year, but it has yet to be announced if there are any plans in place to continue the anime with a second season. But with the first season coming to an end in the next few weeks, it won't be too much longer before Delicious in Dungeon ends and we see what kind of potential future there is on deck for the anime.

Chuck E. Cheese Calling It Quits on Beloved Animatronic Band in All But Two Locations https://comicbook.com/irl/news/chuck-e-cheese-removing-animatronic-band/ Wed, 15 May 2024 23:52:00 +0000 Nicole Drum b4637849-b0c1-4b27-ab8d-f0b5b5ecdfa2

The final show for Munch's Make Believe Band is on the horizon. This week, pizza and arcade chain Chuck E. Cheese announced that they are calling it quits on the brand's beloved animatronic band. The mechanical animal band is being phased out from more than 400 Chuck E. Cheese locations permanently by the end of the year, save for two -- one in Los Angeles and one in Nanuet, New York. The phasing out of the band is part of what the chain's CEO David McKillips described as the brand's "most aggressive transformation to date".

Chuck E. Cheese began in 1977 and was founded by Atari founder Nolan Bushnell who looked to bring the video game experience to a pizza restaurant. The animatronic band was reportedly inspired by the animatronic animal show at Disneyland's Tiki Room and was originally conceived to be centered around a coyote mascot, though after mistakenly purchasing a rat costume, that mascot became Chuck E. Cheese. The character was joined by several other characters -- Mr. Munch on keyboards, Jasper T. Jowls on guitar, Helen Henry on vocals, and Pasqually on drums -- to make up the band.

As for what is replacing the band, per Billboard the redesign will include giant television screens, digital dance floors, and trampoline gyms. The company has not indicated its plans for the animatronics.

"Kids are consuming entertainment differently than they were 10. 20 years ago," McKillips said. "Kids, really of all ages, are consuming their entertainment on a screen."

This Isn't The First Time Chuck E. Cheese Planned to Remove the Band

Back in 2019, Chuck E. Cheese announced that they would be removing all of their classic animatronics from all locations as part of a redesign to give the chain a more sleek and modern look. However, in 2023, the company announced that the chain would be bringing back the band, specifically at the location in Northridge, California near Los Angeles. At the time, it was announced that this was a permanent addition and an "important part of the legacy of the brand."

"As an important part of the legacy of the brand, we know that the animatronic band holds a special place for many fans in their childhood memories," David McKillips, President and CEO of Chuck E. Cheese parent company, CEC Entertainment said. "We want our fans to know that the decision to keep the band here is meant as a gesture of love and gratitude as our legacy continues to evolve in new ways."

Disney Confirms First Part of Disneyland Expansion https://comicbook.com/movies/news/disney-disneyland-expansion-avatar-land-confirmed-bob-iger/ Wed, 15 May 2024 16:39:00 +0000 Aaron Perine 2c36061d-fc1c-4acd-8cb2-deb5d2731126

Disney's Bob Iger confirmed that Disneyland's upcoming expansion will have Avatar as a featured attraction. During the MoffettNathanson Media and Communications Summit, the Disney CEO offered his perspective on new IP coming to the parks. In addition, Iger would reinforce that while a lot of the final decisions about which properties will get some of that space in California and beyond, Avatar is the only name in permanent ink. It makes a lot of sense for Disneyland or Disney's California Afdventure. People still flock to the Avatar offerings in Walt Disney World Resort. So, playing on the series' crowd-pleasing nature seems like a slam dunk from an outside observer.

DisneylandForward moving through the city of Anaheim's legislature cannot be overstated. This is a massive investment in building the parks and Iger is touting that move as the future of their offerings in California. The Disney chief explained, "We have just gotten approval from the city of Anaheim for the biggest expansion of Disneyland since we opened DCA in 2001. It's a huge expansion. We haven't been specific about what's going to be in it, except for Avatar."

Disney Sees A Lot Of Potential In Avatar

The parks side of Disney has not been shy about their intentions to get Pandora to Anaheim. That fateful Annual Shareholders Meeting saw Iger plant their flag on that intention. Chairman of Disney Experiences, Josh D'Amaro wrote about their strategy on the Disney Parks Blog. He reaffirmed their committment to bring an Avatar Land to the destination as a part of DisneylandForward. But, it isn't just the popular movie franchise that's getting looked at. There's an entire world of possibilities with that much land available to develop on.

"We were thrilled to unveil a piece of inspirational artwork developed for a potential new Avatar experience at the Disneyland Resort. We are excited about the stories our guests could experience at Walt's original theme park destination after approval of DisneylandForward - including the chance to experience all-new Avatar adventures with a visit to Pandora," D'Amaro wrote. "Avatar is the latest example of how we are looking to create new and innovative ways to bring our powerful stories to life. Over the past decade, we've delivered massive, immersive experiences at our destinations around the world, including new lands and attractions based on Star Wars, the Avengers, Pixar and more."

Discovery Enlists John Cena to Host Shark Week 2024 https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/shark-week-2024-host-john-cena-discovery-channel-special-belly-of-the-beast/ Wed, 15 May 2024 15:35:00 +0000 Patrick Cavanaugh f0a6a4a0-1264-4b55-9db7-c52a78f9ca62

Performer John Cena might have to change his wrestling slogan "You can't see me" to "You can't sea me" this year, as Discovery announced today that Cena is set to serve as host for this year's Shark Week. Full details about Cena's involvement in the festivities have yet to be released, as hosts have sometimes been known to host their own hour-long specials about sharks while others have offered audiences interstitials about sharks throughout the week, but bringing in such a massive star for the event is even more reason to tune in to Discovery. Shark Week is set to kick off on Discovery on July 7th.

Per press release, "John Cena will host Discovery Channel's annual celebration and investigation of shark habits and behaviors, which will kick off on Sunday, July 7th. The week-long event will include the next chapter in the hit show Belly of the Beast Pt. 2, which is a terrifying and fascinating real look at a great white shark feeding frenzy. Viewers can also sink their teeth into: Monster Hammerhead: Species X about a potential new hammerhead species, and Great White Serial Killer: Sea of Blood, which follows a great white terrorizing a local village."

With MAX offering up not only originals and HBO programming, but also having merged with discovery+, fans will also be able to stream the highly anticipated specials that honor the beloved fish.

In last year's Belly of the Beast: Feeding Frenzy, a group of researchers built a replica whale carcass that not only allowed for the deployment of food to draw in sharks, but also had room for a researcher to observe the subsequent feeding from the center of it. Dr. Austin Gallagher previously shared with ComicBook what made that project so challenging.

"I would say the most challenging thing was figuring out a way that would simulate a real whale carcass, but also doing it in a safe way for me and for the sharks, too. I've done quite a bit of research on the ecological importance of dead whales for white sharks," Gallagher expressed. "They are everything for these white sharks. They sustain them on their migrations. They bring the largest white sharks in. It's incredible. When white sharks get really big, it becomes hard for them to kill seals. They might actually be swimming around waiting, looking for these dead whales."

He added, "We knew it was going to be an exciting thing to do. We ended up building something that simulated that. But getting inside was freaky, I'll be honest. We wanted to make sure that that observational platform that I was going to be in would give good observations, but also we didn't want the sharks to break it and then eat me. I didn't want to die."

Stay tuned for updates on Shark Week before it kicks off on Discovery on July 7th.

Disney Parks Teases More Moana Experiences Coming https://comicbook.com/movies/news/disneyland-moana-california-adventure-experiences-bob-iger-upfronts-tease/ Wed, 15 May 2024 14:20:00 +0000 Aaron Perine fb30ea70-e784-4f23-aefd-c130f4e618bd

Moana is going to be getting some more focus at Disney Parks in the coming years. Right now, Disney's upfront presentations are going on and CEO Bob Iger singled out Moana as a big factor in the parks. He said, "We're starting to lean into investment in Moana in the parks." That's good news for the young fans who helped make that movie the most streamed film of 2023. But, for people wondering which properties will get the boost from the recently approved DisneylandForward initiative, you have a clearer picture of what might be ahead for the California parks in particular.

A recent Disney investor call saw Iger mention Avatar Land as a strong possibility for the next big development at Disneyland. The version of this experience in Walt Disney World remains wildly popular. (This is probably even more true after Avatar: The Way of Water cleaned up at the box office a few years ago!) But, now you should probably start imagining what a Moana experience would look like out there in Anaheim as well. There have already been attempts to incorporate the animated film at other locations. But, with the recent streaming numbers and this public consideration, fans should expect it near the front of the line when discussions on what to place in that new development land take place.

DisneylandForward Gets Approved By Anaheim City Council

Just a few days ago, the city of Anaheim decided to push forward with DisneylandForward, an initiative to broaden the scope of attractions around the area that Disneyland and Disney's California Adventure currently occupy in the city. Of course, hardcore Disney fans immediately began discussing what properties would get focus. It's not hard to imagine Moana, Avatar, Black Panther, and other fan-favorites like Frozen getting strong consideration in the years ahead. On the Disney Parks Blog, Disneyland president Ken Potrock celebrated the vote being completed.

"Exciting news out of Anaheim tonight - I'm thrilled to share that the city council has given final approval for DisneylandForward, and the next era of Disneyland Resort is about to begin! We've worked closely with city staff, neighbors, and our local community over the past three years to make sure DisneylandForward is a win for everyone - I'm grateful the city council agrees and voted to work with us on this legacy project that will set up Disneyland Resort and the City of Anaheim for an incredibly bright future," Potrock wrote. "With updated land use approvals through DisneylandForward, we can build new entertainment experiences for our fans, create thousands of new jobs, and bring new revenue streams to Anaheim."

Star Wars Teams Up With OREO for Light Side vs. Dark Side Campaign https://comicbook.com/starwars/news/star-wars-oreo-cookie-campaign-partnership-dark-side-light-side-limited-edition/ Wed, 15 May 2024 14:00:00 +0000 Patrick Cavanaugh 8af40aca-fd95-4f6f-a0e7-e9da4b0eee04

In the world of Star Wars, it's up to a Force-wielder whether they want to pursue a life that takes them towards the light side or the dark side, but in a new collaboration between the franchise and OREO, fans won't get to make that decision, as each limited-edition package will feature either a blue- or red-colored creme that seals their fate. All of the cookies will be emblazoned with corresponding heroes or villains from across the franchise, with the creme also being infused with "kyber" sugar crystals. Fans will be able to order the limited-edition Star Wars Cookie Packs starting on May 30th through OREO's official website before they begin launching in stores on June 10th.

"Pairing two tremendously loved communities to launch the Star Wars OREO Cookie Packs has been an amazing experience," Nicole Fischer, Senior Brand Manager, OREO, US, shared in a statement. "We are continuing to make strides to cement our brand's cultural relevance via strategic collaborations. We hope fans see how much we loved bringing their favorite stories to life, and that they have fun discovering the details we've included at every touchpoint."

Per press release, "Today, the OREO brand, in collaboration with Lucasfilm, announced the release of Special Edition Star Wars OREO Cookies. The two iterations of the Star Wars OREO Cookie Packs are wrapped in identical exterior packaging, but each pack contains a single color creme that symbolizes either the dark side or light side of the Force. Even better? A playful twist: fans won't know what side they're on until they open it!"

"When fans open their packs, and discover their destiny, they'll be greeted with either dark side or light side Star Wars OREO Cookies with red or blue creme, respectively, that's infused with 'kyber' sugar crystals inspired by the crystals found in a lightsaber. On each cookie, fans will find embossments of corresponding dark side and light side characters such as Darth Vader, Darth Maul, and a stormtrooper for the dark side pack, or Luke Skywalker, Yoda, and Princess Leia for the light side pack, with 10 characters each across the two varieties of the Special Edition Star Wars OREO Cookie Packs -- 20 characters total.

"The Star Wars and OREO Cookie lore goes even deeper if you take a closer look at the packaging art. As an homage to the franchise, the Star Wars OREO Cookie Packs feature original character artwork beautifully hand-painted by the legendary illustrator Greg Hildebrandt, an iconic Star Wars poster artist since 1977.

"The new Star Wars OREO Cookie Packs will be available for presale starting May 30th at OREO.com/StarWars and will begin rolling out at retailers nationwide starting June 10th. The packs will be available only for a limited time, while supplies last."

Stay tuned for updates about the Star Wars franchise.
