We're still a month and a half away from the big screen debut of Universal's Twisters, but fans are already getting excited about the film's jam-packed soundtrack. Following in the footsteps of the original Twister, this new blockbuster is getting a loaded album to go along with it. Twisters: The Album will be released alongside the film on July 19th, and it is set to have a whopping 29 songs included.

Twisters: The Album is already available for pre-order on digital formats, CD, and multiple vinyl pressings. Additionally, Universal and Atlantic Records have revealed the complete tracklist for the album, which includes new music from hit artists like Luke Combs, Jelly Roll, Lainey Wilson, Tyler Childers, Leon Bridges, Miranda Lambert, Kane Brown, and Shania Twain.

Here's the complete list of songs being featured on the Twisters soundtrack:

  1. "Ain't No Love in Oklahoma" - Luke Combs
  2. "Ain't in Kansas Anymore" - Miranda Lambert
  3. "Steal My Thunder" - Conner Smith (feat. Tucker Wetmore)
  4. "Feelin' Country" - Thomas Rhett
  5. "The Cards I've Been Dealt" - Warren Zeiders
  6. "Never Left Me" - Megan Moroney
  7. "Out of Oklahoma" - Lainey Wilson
  8. "Hell or High Water" - Bailey Zimmerman
  9. "Dead End Road" - Jelly Roll
  10. "Country Classic" - Kane Brown
  11. "Tear Us Apart" - Sam Barber
  12. "Song While You're Away" - Tyler Childers
  13. "Already Had It" - Tucker Wetmore
  14. "Chrome Cowgirl" - Leon Bridges
  15. "Death Wish Love" - Benson Boone
  16. "Boots Don't" - Shania Twain & Breland
  17. "Stronger Than a Storm" - Dylan Gossett
  18. "Chasing the Wind" - Lanie Gardner
  19. "Leave the Light On" - Jelly Roll (feat. Alexandra Kay)
  20. "Before I Do" - Wyatt Flores & Jake Kohn
  21. "Caddo County" - The Red Clay Strays
  22. "Blackberry Wine" - Tanner Usrey
  23. "Too Easy" - Tanner Adell
  24. "Shake Shake (All Night Long)" - Mason Ramsey
  25. "New Loop" - Tyler Halverson
  26. "Touchdown" - Flatland Cavalry
  27. "Driving You Home" - Nolan Taylor
  28. "Wall of Death" - Wilderado, Ken Pomeroy, & James McAlister
  29. "(Ghost) Riders in the Sky" - Charley Crockett

So far, three tracks from the soundtrack are already available to listen to and purchase. Luke Combs' "Ain't No Love in Oklahoma" is the big single from the album and was featured in the Twisters trailer. That was the first song to be released and it was given a Twisters-inspired music video, featuring some footage from the film.

Since that song's release, Atlantic Records and Universal Pictures have also unveiled "Hell or High Water" by Bailey Zimmerman and "Never Left Me" by Megan Moroney.

Twisters is set to hit theaters on July 19, 2024. The film stars Daisy Edgar-Jones, Glen Powell, Katy O'Brian, Kiernan Shipka, Maura Tierney, Anthony Ramos, Sasha Lane, Brandon Perea, and new Superman star David Corenswet.

Blade: What Does Mahershala Ali's Jurassic World Casting Mean for MCU Reboot? https://comicbook.com/movies/news/blade-mahershala-ali-jurassic-world-casting-mcu-reboot/ Fri, 31 May 2024 03:30:00 +0000 Jenna Anderson 2559712d-14be-44ad-a3a8-1aef47ce9ff9

The Marvel Cinematic Universe's Multiverse Saga has been ebbing and flowing in some fascinating ways over the years, telling a wide variety of stories across movies, Disney+ television shows, and more. One project on the franchise's slate -- which actually predated the establishing of the Multiverse Saga itself -- is Blade, a new movie centered around the titular vampire-hunting Daywalker. Oscar winner Mahershala Ali has been attached to portray Eric Brooks / Blade since San Diego Comic-Con in 2019, ultimately making his MCU debut with an uncredited voice cameo in 2021's Eternals movie.

In the years since the Blade solo film was first announced, the film has held, and subsequently lost, multiple writers, ensemble cast members, and release dates. At the time of this writing, Blade is committed to debut in theaters in November of 2025, but updates surrounding the film's production have been few and far between. With Ali now in talks to star in Universal's upcoming Jurassic World movie, which would begin production in mid-June for a July 2025 release, some have begun to speculate about what that means for Blade's newest release date. Could Blade still debut in the fall of 2025, or is another date change on the horizon?

Thanks to last year's writers' and actors' strike, the most recent updates surrounding Blade's development and pre-production have been few and far between. Countless reports have hinted at the various creative overhauls have entailed, ranging from various period pieces, to lower budget fare, to a female-led ensemble that would have Blade himself be a supporting character. Ali was quoted in December of 2023 saying that he's "encouraged" by the most recent direction the movie is heading in, but newer details have been scarce. The most recent concrete piece of information came from Aaron Pierre, who joined the project in 2022, confirming in March of this year that he is no longer attached amid those creative evolutions. Other previously-reported cast members, including Mia Goth, Milan Ray, and Delroy Lindo, have also become something of a Schrodinger's box as well. (The fact that Lindo has also signed on to Ryan Coogler and Michael B. Jordan's untitled vampire movie at Warner Bros., which has been fast-tracked for an early 2025 debut amid Blade's delays, hasn't helped either.)

In a hypothetical scenario where some combination of Ali, Goth, Ray, and Lindo are all still attached to Blade, there is still the question of when the production would commence. If Ali is signed on for Jurassic World 4, that mid-June production could feasibly last a few months, meaning he might not be available for Blade until the fall of 2024. That would, at best, give the movie a little over a year to go from pre-production to release -- a feat that certainly isn't impossible, but could certainly exacerbate previous complaints about Marvel Studios having rushed visual effects and shorter windows for marketing campaigns. The studio's highly-anticipated The Fantastic Four reboot could also be running into a similar logistical problem, which has led some to wonder if it will ultimately take Blade's current fall 2025 slot.

Beyond that, there's no telling what the future might hold for Blade. Maybe the film will ultimately land Marvel's next theatrical release date in early 2026, if the company ends up rearranging its slate to better map out its next two Avengers movies. Some have even begun to theorize that Blade is among the projects secretly cancelled by Disney CEO Bob Iger, who hinted earlier this year that some of those "tough calls" have already been made. Hopefully, we won't have to wait too long to find out the movie's fate.

As mentioned above, Blade is currently scheduled to be released on November 7, 2025.

Danny Huston Talks the Challenge of Making The Crow, Naked Gun Remakes https://comicbook.com/movies/news/danny-huston-remaking-movies-the-crow-naked-gun/ Fri, 31 May 2024 03:17:00 +0000 Charlie Ridgely a6363e57-fa68-4bb0-8a05-c5b9c4ae204c

Reboots of popular films from years past have become an integral part of the DNA of the current studio system. Anything that can grab nostalgia and turn something into IP is seen as both viable and valuable, so a ton of beloved films and TV shows are getting modern makeovers. Actor Danny Huston is actually set to star in two of these reboots, but they couldn't be more different.

Huston stars as the villain in the upcoming reboot of The Crow, which hits theaters later this year. In 2025, he'll appear in the reboot of The Naked Gun, which is gearing up for production. While speaking to ComicBook about The Dead Don't Hurt, his new movie hitting theaters on May 31st, Huston opened up about the challenges that come with remaking a popular title.

"What I find challenging is, in a way, the idea of remaking something that's already good," Huston told us. "It's like you kind of don't want to touch it. You want to leave it alone. I remember my father saying, 'Why are we remaking good movies? We should be remaking the bad ones and make them good.' So that's where you're cautious. And yet you have to kind of reinvent it. You can't imitate it. But you're inspired by it and that's the tough balance to get."

The Crow, opening in August, pits Huston against Bill Skarsg?rd, who takes over the character made famous by the late Brandon Lee. The film also stars FKA Twigs. You can check out the official synopsis for The Crow below!

"Soulmates Eric Draven (Skarsg?rd) and Shelly Webster (FKA twigs) are brutally murdered when the demons of her dark past catch up with them. Given the chance to save his true love by sacrificing himself, Eric sets out to seek merciless revenge on their killers, traversing the worlds of the living and the dead to put the wrong things right."

The Naked Gun, set to hit theaters next July, is based on the beloved action comedy series that starred Leslie Nielsen. Liam Neeson stars in director Akiva Schaffer's take on the property, leading an all star cast that also includes Paul Walter Hauser, Kevin Durand, Pamela Anderson, Busta Rhymes, and current WWE Champion Cody Rhodes.

Welcome to Derry: Bill Skarsgård Reprising Pennywise Role in It Prequel Series https://comicbook.com/movies/news/welcome-to-derry-bill-skarsgard-reprising-pennywise-role-in-it-prequel-series/ Fri, 31 May 2024 01:32:00 +0000 Haley Miller fe6ff09f-b820-497e-8557-5aa666732f31

Stephen King's horror novel It is one of his most beloved titles that has transcended the world of pop culture. In the 1990s a three-part miniseries introduced fans to the very first live-action Pennywise played by the iconic Tim Curry but it wouldn't be for another 27 years that an actual full fledged adaption would be released. 2017's It directed by Andr?s Muschietti starred Bill Skarsg?rd as the titular clown who terrorizes the fictional town of Derry, Maine. It grossed over $700 million at the worldwide box office, making it the highest-grossing King project by a wide margin. Although It Chapter Two wasn't without its problems, it still pulled impressive numbers against the $79 million budget bringing the combined total to over $1.17 billion.

Three years after the release of It Chapter Two, reports indicated that Max would be turning the horror franchise into a prequel series. Nearly a full year later, the series was officially greenlit and has been in active development ever since. Welcome to Derry will star the previously announced Madeleine Stowe, Stephen Rider Taylour Paige, Jovan Adepo, Chris Chalk, and James Remar. As announced by Deadline, Skarsg?rd will reprise his role as the iconic clown. Skarsg?rd will reunite with Andy and Barbara Muschietti, the minds behind both It films. Additionally, Jason Fuchs and Brad Caleb Kane serve as co-showrunners of Welcome to Derry.

Skarsg?rd continues his venture into the world of horror with projects like 2022's Barbarian and the upcoming Nosferatu adaption starring Willem Dafoe, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Lily Rose-Depp and Nicholas Hoult. Skarsg?rd can next be seen in The Crow reimagining, currently set for release in August. Based on the cult classic 1994 film directed by Alex Proyas, the original starred Brandon Lee as Eric Draven who was tragically killed during production.

"As teenagers, we took turns reading chapters of Stephen King's It until the thick paperback fell to pieces," the Muschiettis revealed in a statement back in 2023. "It is an epic story that contains multitudes, far beyond what we could explore in our It movies. We can't wait to share the depths of Steve's novel, in all its heart, humor, humanity, and horror."

"I'm excited that the story of Derry, Maine's most haunted city, is continuing, and I'm glad Andy Muschietti is going to be overseeing the frightening festivities, along with a brain trust including his talented sister, Barbara," King added. "Red balloons all around!"

Pixar Chief Teases Finding Nemo 3: "The Ocean's a Big Place" https://comicbook.com/movies/news/pixar-chief-pete-docter-finding-nemo-3-sequel/ Fri, 31 May 2024 00:31:00 +0000 Cameron Bonomolo 66bdd273-83cf-4110-a7e5-3cfdd59be0c7

Finding Nemo just keeps swimming.

Pixar Animation Studios president Jim Morris told Bloomberg that the studio is considering new sequels for the Finding Nemo and Incredibles franchises, which have gone dormant since 2016's Finding Dory and 2018's Incredibles 2. According to Pete Docter, Pixar's chief creative officer who worked on 2003's Finding Nemo as part of its original brain trust, there's an ocean's worth of potential for another follow-up to the two films that grossed nearly $2 billion combined at the global box office.

"Where else have we not gone in the ocean? The ocean's a big place," Docter told Bloomberg. "I think there's a lot of opportunity there. We're kind of fishing around."

Following the company's recent restructuring, Pixar plans to make three movies every two years, alternating between sequels and spinoffs (the upcoming Inside Out 2 and Toy Story 5) and original ideas (Elio and an undisclosed project from Turning Red director Domee Shi).

Only two Pixar franchises have turned into trilogies -- Toy Story and Cars -- and with the former, it was a decade wait between the last two sequels. It took 13 years for Pixar to follow Finding Nemo with Finding Dory, which is, so far, director Andrew Stanton's last project at the studio. (Stanton was part of Pixar's first brain trust with Docter, Toy Story and Cars director John Lasseter, who has since exited the company, and the late animator and storyman Joe Ranft.)

"Most studios jump on doing a sequel as soon as they have a successful film, but our business model is a filmmaker model, and we don't make a sequel unless the director of the original film has an idea that they like and are willing to go forward on," Morris said in a 2016 interview. "A sequel in some regards is even harder [than the original] because you've got this defined world which, on the one hand, is a leg up, and on the other hand has expectations that you can't disappoint on."

Upcoming Pixar movies include Inside Out 2 (June 14), Elio (June 13, 2025), an untitled Pixar (March 6, 2026), and Toy Story 5 (June 19, 2026).

The Watchers Star Dakota Fanning Teases Collaboration With Elle Fanning https://comicbook.com/horror/news/the-watchers-dakota-fanning-teases-collaboration-with-sister-elle-fanning/ Thu, 30 May 2024 23:54:00 +0000 Jamie Jirak 4652e3e5-6e22-416f-90b6-bc74caf7233a

The Watchers is heading to theaters next week, and the film is based on A. M. Shine's novel of the same name. The movie stars Dakota Fanning as an artist named Mina who "gets stranded in an expansive, untouched forest in western Ireland." Mina eventually finds shelter, but she "unknowingly becomes trapped alongside three strangers who are watched and stalked by mysterious creatures each night." Early in the film, Mina listens to a voicemail from her sister, and ComicBook recently admitted to Fanning that we initially thought the voicemail was a cameo from her real-life sister, Elle Fanning. This led to us wondering if the sisters plan to work together in the future.

"Oh, funny!" Fanning replied when we mentioned our mistake. "I'm wondering if people ... what they're going to think," she added. "We have definitely talked about it," she shared when asked about a collaboration with her sister. "We never acted together on screen. She's played me younger, but definitely you'll see it one day for sure. I feel confident saying that."

You can watch our interview with Fanning at the top of the page.

Dakota Fanning Talks Working With Ishana Night Shyamalan:

The Watchers marks the feature directorial debut of M. Night Shyamalan's daughter, Ishana Night Shyamalan. During ComicBook's chat with Fanning, she shared what it was like to work with a first-time feature director.

"Yeah, she's super, super excited. Always had a smile on her face, such a bright person and somebody that was clearly put on this earth to create," Fanning said of Shyamalan. "She's super creative, super collaborative, comes from a family of artists who love to make cool things, and so that's inspiring to be around."

"She wrote this and was directing it and had such a clear vision of what she wanted to do and you can't help but feel inspired to collaborate with someone like that," Fanning added.

In addition to Fanning, The Watchers stars Georgina Campbell (Barbarian, Suspicion), Oliver Finnegan (Creeped Out, Outlander), and Olwen Fouere (The Northman, The Tourist). Joining writer/director Shyamalan behind the camera are director of photography Eli Arenson (Lamb, Hospitality), production designer Ferdia Murphy (Lola, Finding You), editor Job ter Burg (Benedetta, Elle), and costume design by Frank Gallacher (Sebastian, Aftersun). The music is by Abel Korzeniowski (Till, The Nun). The film is produced by M. Night Shyamalan, Ashwin Rajan, and Nimitt Mankad. The executive producers are Jo Homewood and Stephen Dembitzer.

The Watchers lands in theaters on June 7th. Stay tuned for more from our interviews about the upcoming horror film.

National Treasure 3: Original Director Offers Script Update, Teases Nicolas Cage and Original Cast Returning https://comicbook.com/movies/news/national-treasure-3-original-director-offers-script-update-teases-nicolas-cage-and-original-cast-returning/ Thu, 30 May 2024 23:01:00 +0000 Jamie Jirak 64f2a5d2-a590-478c-8bfc-3a4fa25d9892

Nicolas Cage first played Benjamin Franklin Gates in National Treasure in 2004 and went on to reprise the role in National Treasure: Book of Secrets in 2007. It's been 17 years since the sequel, and fans are constantly wondering about a third installment. Last year, Disney+ rebooted the franchise with a new series, National Treasure: Edge of History, but the show never featured an appearance by Cage, and it was canceled after one season. While there's been no real news about a third film, producer Jerry Bruckheimer did spread a little hope back in March when he said, "Well, we hope there's a National Treasure 3. We've been working on it for quite a while." Director Jon Turteltaub recently appeared on the National Treasure Hunt podcast and revealed a script is being written.

"It's being written," Turteltaub shared. "That doesn't mean it will be finished and be great, but if it's being written it will definitely be momentous when we read it. We all know what's in it. But there's a very, very good writer writing it right now who tends to write really good movies. If the script comes out close to good and you can see the finish line from where you are, we're making the movie."

"100%," Turteltaub replied when asked if Cage and the rest of the original cast could come back. "We do have to hurry because people are both getting older and less interested and lives are changing and all that. And the world changes. Our culture is changing. A lot. Since the first movie was made. Socially, certainly politically, and definitely, our language, and different cultural changes we've had. And you've got to make sure you're in touch with all that and moving with it, and doing things the right way. ... It's not as easy to just do another one. You've got to take a lot into account. I can tell you, 20 years later Justin Bartha is a lot better looking."

Nic Cage Addresses National Treasure 3:

Earlier this year, Cage spoke with Deadline and revealed he was surprised Disney hadn't officially greenlit another National Treasure movie.

"Yeah, well, they're a lot of fun," Cage said of making the National Treasure films. "I mean, I enjoy them too, and I think Jon Turteltaub made a couple of classic films for the whole family. I'm still kind of amazed that Disney hasn't wanted to make a third one. I thought the movies brought a lot of joy to the public, and it's certainly interesting about history, and I think all of that is worthwhile filmmaking. You can dig deep and go into the more abstract stuff, like Bringing out the Dead, or Pig or even Dream Scenario, or you can open it up and make a movie that pleases a lot of people and hopefully gives families a chance to escape a little bit from whatever may be going on at home or in the office. I think they're all valid."

Stay tuned for more updates about National Treasure 3.

Chris Hemsworth in Talks to Star in Transformers / G.I. Joe Crossover Movie https://comicbook.com/movies/news/chris-hemsworth-transformers-g-i-joe-crossover-movie/ Thu, 30 May 2024 20:45:00 +0000 Jenna Anderson 9187e6dc-6d40-41b2-8400-4fad43daf63c

The long-awaited Transformers and G.I. Joe crossover movie may have landed its first major star. On Thursday, reports indicated that Marvel Cinematic Universe and Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga star Chris Hemsworth is in talks to join the cast of the currently-untitled Transformers / G.I. Joe movie. Details of Hemsworth's potential role are currently under wraps.

If the deal comes to fruition, it would mark Hemsworth's second role in the Hasbro franchise, with the actor also starring as a younger version of Optimus Prime in the animated Transformers One movie, which is scheduled to make its debut in September of this year.

What Is the Transformers / G.I. Joe Movie About?

Officially announced by Paramount Pictures earlier this year, Transformers / G.I. Joe will finally introduce a live-action crossover between the two iconic Hasbro multimedia lines. The prospect of the crossover was first teased in the ending of 2023's Transformers: Rise of the Beasts. Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Mark Vahradian, Michael Bay, Tom DeSanto & Don Murphy are producing, while Steven Spielberg and Hasbro Entertainment are executive producers. A director for the film is not currently confirmed.

"We are going to deliver on the promise we made," di Bonaventura told ComicBook in a previous interview. "We've talked about it since the beginning of the franchise because the fans have been like, 'Come on, when you are going to do Joe?!' The truth of the matter is there's so many great Transformers characters that we didn't feel like we needed to rush and do G.I. Joe. But you also want an organic way, otherwise it feels like a cynical exercise."

What Is Transformers One Aabout?

Transformers One will tell the untold origin story of Optimus Prime and Megatron, better known as sworn enemies, but once were friends bonded like brothers who changed the fate of Cybertron forever. In addition to Hemsworth, the ensemble voice cast of Transformers One includes Brian Tyree Henry as Megatron, Scarlett Johansson as Elita, Keegan-Michael Key as Bumblebee, Laurence Fishburne as Alpha Trion, Jon Hamm as Sentinel Prime, and Steve Buscemi as the film's villain.

"We did our take on the origin, which is still staying true to the lore of Transformers," Transformers One director Josh Cooley previously told ComicBook."I wouldn't say that this is a direct prequel to anything that's been done with live-action ones," Cooley added. "But it's definitely its own story as well."

Moana 2's Massive Milestone Bodes Well for 2024 Disney Slate https://comicbook.com/movies/news/moana-2-disney-trailer-milestone-2024-release-inside-out-deadpool-wolverine/ Thu, 30 May 2024 20:22:00 +0000 Aaron Perine 98b1da13-e819-4f24-afb1-0080b5046f1e

Moana 2 has already hit a massive Disney milestone and that bodes well for the rest of the company's 2024. This week, fans were treated to the trailer for Moana 2 and it promptly became the most-watched animated trailer in the company's history. 178 million views rushed ashore in just 24 hours, dethroning the anticipated Inside Out 2. With both of the these projects on the horizon, Disney can breathe a sigh of relief about their theatrical prospects heading into the rest of 2024. As the summer theatrical landscape is still looking for the first full-stop blockbuster, their studios might be able to put out one project each season that stands above the rest.

Later this fall, Moana 2 will hit theaters and there's good reason to believe it will be one of the biggest movies of the year. How can you tell when tickets aren't even on sale yet? Well, take one look at the streaming ratings numbers from 2023 and it all begins to snap into frame. Moana was the most streamed movie of last year. That's absolutely wild for an animated film. But, not completely out of the realm of possibility. Every parent reading this right now has probably heard one of the Disney movie's numerous songs. (You should probably prepare your eardrums now, some new ones are on the way to nestle into your subconscious.)

Despite beginning life as a Disney+ series, the sequel has become a force of its own with people getting excited about seeing something that reminds them of a previous era of cinematic experiences. Also, maybe when they were younger, or their parents were younger too. It stands to reason this will be a big family event just like Frozen 2 was all the way back in 2019. At this point, Disney would be breaking down the doors for an opening like that. Very few projects have enjoyed the halcyon days of 2019 at the cinema. It takes "events" and Moana 2 could end up fitting the bill.

Disney's Summer Already Looking Pretty Good

kingdom-of-the-planet-of-the-apes-ending-explained.jpg
(Photo: 20th Century)

Disney managed to start the summertime off with Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes. While some may have questioned revisiting the primate action/drama franchise, that choice has clearly paid off. Just yesterday, Kindgdom of the Planet of the Apes passed $300 million worldwide. In week 3, the movie continues to roll on as a new apes trilogy could be in the works if it climbs even higher.

One look around the multiplex shows Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes as the biggest non-family movie winner of this young summer. All around Wes Ball's latest offering are question marks littered around. The Fall Guy's opening has sparked a ton of hang-wringing around the industry. Universal felt like they were going to kick the door in on the warmer months and that clearly hasn't transpired. Over at Warner Bros., Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga was lauded by critics but audiences were hesitant to follow in the same numbers for some reason.

So, things just haven't flamed on for the summer in the way that a lot of studios would have hoped. Maybe it's the advent of streaming? (More like a constant deluge of media sources touting a downturn that really never transpired and lingering worries about prices that actually are not quite as bad across the board as you would believe from popular Internet videos.) All of this clear the deck for the groundswell that will clear the way for Moana 2.

Moana 2 Bats Clean-Up After Deadpool

wolverine-deadpool3.png

Summer isn't over yet, but it's gonna get late early if one of these movies cannot get a good enough head start on Marvel Studios' Deadpool & Wolverine. Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman have crafted a juggernaut in waiting that is poised to rule over the multiplex in July. Conversation has swirled around the old MCU for a couple of years now. Even as the output has remained near the top of the ladder in the post-2020 media environment. (Not topping it in the same way though necessarily.)

Deadpool & Wolverine stands to buck that trend in a massive way. Not only is it a Ryan Reynolds sequel to a beloved franchise, it's also a reintroduction to Jackman's surly Wolverine and the X-Men as a whole. For almost a year, the fanbase has provided its own marketing campaign for the movie. As they clamored for more connection between Marvel entries, what they really wanted was the X-Men to make them feel like kids again. And, Deadpool & Wolverine is going to do that.

If Inside Out 2 and Deadpool & Wolverine hit, there's a very real chance that 3 Disney movies could occupy a majority of the top spots on the box office ladder by the year's end. That would be a wild turnaround after constant raking over the coals by the press and commenters online. Moana 2 looks like an inescapable wave and at the rate this is going, that's probably a good thing for theaters all over.

Bad Boys: Ride or Die Soundtrack Drops Lead Single: Listen https://comicbook.com/movies/news/bad-boys-ride-or-die-soundtrack-album-single-lorne-balfe/ Thu, 30 May 2024 20:15:00 +0000 Cameron Bonomolo 896d20e3-2836-43bd-bb62-97281478da94

The Bad Boys are back on the beat.

Sony Music Masterworks has released composer Lorne Balfe's lead single from the Bad Boys: Ride or Die soundtrack album, and it remixes Mark Mancina's iconic theme from 1995's Bad Boys (ba-da-da-da-da-daaa!) The 15-track score doesn't drop until June 7 -- the same day the Will Smith and Martin Lawrence-starring buddy cop action-comedy hits theaters -- but fans can listen to the title track, "Bad Boys: Ride or Die," by pressing play below.

"Working with [producer] Jerry [Bruckheimer], [directors] Adil and Bilall is always such a pleasure given their creative input and love for music in general, so when I got the call to return as the composer on Bad Boys: Ride or Die it was a no-brainer," Balfe said in a statement. "Mark Mancina's original theme is instantly recognizable, so it was crucial to use this as the blueprint for the score. I expand on the iconic theme by upping the pace in order to keep up with the action-packed sequences, and quick-witted humor that is seen throughout the film."

bad-boys-ride-or-die-soundtrack-music-album.jpg

Here's the official Bad Boys: Ride or Die (Original Motion Picture Score) tracklisting:

  • Bad Boys: Ride Or Die
  • Sugar Rush Shootout
  • Basement of the Ocean
  • Fear is a Tool
  • Bridge Barrage
  • Prison Yard Attack
  • Hacking Howard
  • Framing The Boys
  • Flammable Fluid
  • Finding McGrath
  • Reggie In Action
  • Columbian Manicure
  • Taking Heavies
  • No More Prayers
  • Standoff

The Grammy-winning and Emmy-nominated composer returns to the franchise after scoring 2020's Bad Boys for Life. Balfe's credits include the Bruckheimer-produced Top Gun: Maverick, 6 Underground and Ambulance (from original Bad Boys and Bad Boys II director Michael Bay), Mission: Impossible -- Dead Reckoning, Black Adam, and the upcoming Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F.

Bad Boys: Ride or Die (Original Motion Picture Score) is available for pre-order on Apple Music, iTunes, Spotify, YouTube Music, Amazon Music, Pandora, and Deezer. Bad Boys: Ride or Die -- starring Will Smith, Martin Lawrence, Vanessa Hudgens, Alexander Ludwig, Paola Nu?ez, Eric Dane, Ioan Gruffudd, Jacob Scipio, Melanie Liburd, Tasha Smith, Rhea Seehorn, with Tiffany Haddish and Joe Pantoliano -- is playing only in theaters June 7.

Deadpool & Wolverine: Regal Teases Alternate Popcorn Bucket https://comicbook.com/movies/news/deadpool-and-wolverine-regal-alternate-popcorn-bucket-teaser/ Thu, 30 May 2024 20:10:00 +0000 Timothy Adams 89ed51eb-680d-427f-96b5-fc5ac4c29e15

Regal is getting in on the popcorn bucket craze with a specialized bucket for Deadpool & Wolverine. One of the highlights of going to a movie theater is getting a limited-time popcorn bucket for the film. One thing that makes the reunion between Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman in Deadpool & Wolverine so unique is it's the only movie Marvel Studios is releasing this year. After a rocky film slate, Marvel Studios is looking to rebound at the box office, and soon moviegoers will have Deadpool & Wolverine popcorn buckets as souvenirs. The bucket planned by Regal Cinemas hopes to be at the top of the request pile.

The Regal Instagram account shared a video teasing its popcorn buck for Deadpool & Wolverine. "Alright, @vancityreynolds You showed us yours but we're gonna make you wait to see ours. #warofthepopcornbuckets #DeadpoolAndWolverine," the account said. "If you want to see the full video, tweet at Ryan."

As for the video, a narrator tells us that "Regal is proud to introduce our first-ever combination drink and popcorn collectible container, featuring a character from Deadpool & Wolverine. The chair on the screen slowly starts to spin around to the viewer, but before we can find out who is sitting in the chair, the TVA interrupts the signal to prevent multiverse spoilers. AMC reveals Deadpool & Wolverine popcorn bucket

AMC Theatres was first to unveil a Deadpool & Wolverine-themed popcorn bucket. "Don't try to butter me up. #deadpoolandwolverine ??," star Hugh Jackman shared on X (formerly Twitter). earlier today. Of course, the bucket is just as crude as the Marvel movie, with the bucket formed in the shape of Wolverine's head with its mouth open awaiting popcorn. It also has the phrase, "Designed by Deadpool" written on it.

These popcorn buckets come on the heels of AMC Theatres' souvenir sandworm bucket for Dune: Part Two. They caused a huge stir online and inspired a hilarious Saturday Night Live sketch. AMC Chief Content Officer Elizabeth Frank recently responded to the Dune: Part Two buckets.

"We continue to learn and evolve. We would have never imagined the Dune thing. We would have never created it knowing it would be celebrated or mocked," Frank told Variety. "Absolutely," she added when asked if the SNL sketch felt like a "seal of approval." "And you couldn't make it happen if you wanted to. It wouldn't be fair to pull our creative talent aside to say, 'We hope it makes SNL.'"

"Some fans are collectors. There's another group of people who are specific film fans, buying three different Ghostbusters products. It's all a mix. It's a material part of our food and beverage business, but it's not the majority of it. It also makes the movies more fun. It's like going home from a concert with a T-shirt. There is a lot of creative energy from it," she added.

Knives Out 3: Mila Kunis Joins Wake Up Dead Man Cast https://comicbook.com/movies/news/knives-out-3-mila-kunis-joins-wake-up-dead-man-cast/ Thu, 30 May 2024 19:46:00 +0000 Jamie Jirak 85435d80-24df-4b1c-b921-2ad7223ce7fe

It's been a big week for fans of Rian Johnson's whodunnit films, Knives Out and Glass Onion. The murder mystery film series sees Daniel Craig starring as detective Benoit Blanc, and each movie surrounds the actor with a star-studded supporting cast. It was announced earlier this week that the third film in the series will be called Wake Up Dead Man, and news of the cast has been pouring in each day. Today, it was revealed that Marvel star Jeremy Renner has joined the production. According to a new report from Deadline, Mila Kunis has also been added to the cast.

It's currently unclear who the That '70s Show alum will be playing in Wake Up Dead Man, but she will be joined by Craig and Renner in addition to Josh O'Connor, Kerry Washington, Glenn Close, Cailee Spaeny, and Andrew Scott.

"I love everything about whodunnits, but one of the things I love most is how malleable the genre is. There's a whole tonal spectrum from Carr to Christie, and getting to explore that range is one of the most exciting things about making Benoit Blanc movies," Rian Johnson wrote on Twitter. "We're about to go into production on the 3rd one, and I'm very, very excited to share the title, which gives a little hint of where it's going."

Johnson proceeded to share a short video that showed the previous film titles, Knives Out and Glass Onion, before revealing Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery. The film is currently scheduled to be released in 2025.

"It's coming along. I obviously couldn't work during the strike, and now that it's over, I'm diving in full force, and so it's coming along," Johnson previously said of the project. "I've got the premise, I've got the setting, I've got what the movie is in my head. It's just a matter of writing the damn thing."

"The first one, [Johnson] had the idea for years in his head, but he only put pen to paper like late January and by end of October we were filming it, which is a super fast," producer Ram Bergman told ComicBook. "This movie, he really did not have an idea. He just stopped thinking and we were... From the moment he started really writing it, like, nine months later, a year later, we were filming. So, the good thing, he is very motivated to go do the next one as quickly as possible. But, you know, we'll see how fast he is but this is gonna be a challenge. It's gonna be a bigger challenge. So we'll see how long it's gonna take."

Stay tuned for more updates about Wake Up Dead Man.

McFarlane Toys DC Multiverse The Dark Knight Trilogy Tumbler Vehicles Drop On May 31st https://comicbook.com/movies/news/mcfarlane-toys-dc-multiverse-the-dark-knight-trilogy-tumbler-vehicles-drop-on-may-31st/ Thu, 30 May 2024 19:35:00 +0000 Sean Fallon 9bfb1e0e-5574-4820-9a17-35d5097835ae psx-20240530-152930.jpg

McFarlane Toys is set to drop two new 7-inch scale vehicles in their DC Multiverse Gold Label lineup - the Camouflage Tumbler from The Dark Knight Rises and Lucius Fox and Tumbler 2-pack from The Dark Knight. The catch is that both will be exclusives, and when it comes to Batman-themed releases of this nature, that generally means that they will sell out very quickly. The good news is that a restock is likely, though it might take some time. This was the case with the '89 Batmobile that McFarlane Toys launched last year.

That said, both vehicles will be available to pre-order on May 31st, most likely around 12pm ET. A price hasn't been announced, but we would expect both to retail for at least $70, with the 2-pack likely fetching more because of the additional figure. The Camouflage Tumbler will be an Amazon exclusive, and should be available to order right here. The Lucius Fox and Tumbler 2-pack will be a McFarlane Toys Store exclusive. Direct links will be added here after the launch, so stay tuned!

While you're at it, mark your calendar for June 7th because McFarlane Toys is set to launch pre-orders for a Batman Forever Build-A-Wave series of figures. Odds are they will be available at retailers like Entertainment Earth on that day, so stay tuned to this page for additional information as we get closer to the event. Note that McFarlane Toys previously released a Val Kilmer Batman figure as part of the Batman Ultimate Movie Collection set.

Finally, McFarlane Toys launched a Darkseid (DC Classic) Megafig in their DC Multiverse earlier this week and it sold out in a heartbeat. Keep tabs here at Entertainment Earth and here on Amazon for restocks. The figure is priced at $39.99.

"The DC Collector Megafig Wave 8 Darkseid DC Classic Action Figure features ultra articulation with up to 22 moving parts for full range of posing and play. Darkseid is featured in his classic DC Comics look and is in scale with the 7-inch figures in the DC Multiverse line (sold separately). Darkseid comes with a soft goods cape, extra hands, extra head portrait, and display base. Also included is a collectable card with artwork on the front, and a character biography on the back."

The Backrooms: Lost Media Fans Have Finally Identified Where the Creepypasta Photo Was Taken https://comicbook.com/movies/news/the-backrooms-lost-media-identified-original-creepypasta-photo/ Thu, 30 May 2024 19:34:00 +0000 Russ Burlingame cd582e1f-1e0c-457f-af2d-66bf933b0f90

"The Backrooms" is that rare 4Chan post that not only became familiar to mainstream audiences, but broke out of the social media bubble to become a fairly mainstream pop culture phenomenon. Originally just a creepy photo, an anonymous user attached it to a short "creepypasta," and it almost immediately took off. The story of The Backrooms is short, to the point, and basically a perfect creepypasta: "If you're not careful and you noclip out of reality in the wrong areas, you'll end up in the Backrooms, where it's nothing but the stink of old moist carpet, the madness of mono-yellow, the endless background noise of fluorescent lights at maximum hum-buzz, and approximately six hundred million square miles of randomly segmented empty rooms to be trapped in. God save you if you hear something wandering around nearby, because it sure as hell has heard you."

In the decade or so since, there has been a webseries adaptation, video games, and A24 is reportedly developing a feature film based on the concept. So, it's probably not surprising that eventually people started to wonder what the actual story of the photo was. That kicked off a search -- which ended yesterday.

A number of Discord users -- handles Serrara, Semliot, Xaft, and PerditusRedux -- have discovered an Internet Archive link that shows off the very first version of the photo that was posted online. PerditusRedux was key in finding the origins of the photo, and it was actually a fairly simple idea: they took the earliest known filename for the image (one discovered and identified by Serrara), and plugged it into X's search function. That kicked back a years-old tweet that featured a link to a post from Hobby Town in Oshkosh, WI.

You can see a pretty great breakdown from YouTuber Farrell McGuire below.

While a number of people after them would find the image liminal, unsettling, or downright creepy, the photo was originally presented without any such context. Instead, the link detailed the process of tearing apart some old display walls from a closed-down furniture store, so they could build a race track for remote control cars.

The furniture store theory was one that had been put forth by McGuire about a month ago, in a video where he speculated that's why there were so many odd, seemingly false walls, why the walls had a protective rail mounted on them, and why there seemed to be so few plugs for such a large area.

Maybe if we get lucky, A24 can include some creepy RC cars in their version of The Backrooms now...!

Jurassic World 4: Marvel's Blade Star Mahershala Ali in Talks to Join Cast https://comicbook.com/movies/news/marvel-blade-mahershala-ali-new-jurassic-world-4-movie/ Thu, 30 May 2024 19:13:00 +0000 Cameron Bonomolo 1b1509fa-2072-48c0-9e23-5c2490b668e0

Before slaying vampires in Marvel Studios' Blade reboot, Mahershala Ali will be surviving dinosaurs in the new Jurassic World movie.

The two-time Oscar-winning Moonlight and Green Book star is in talks to join Universal's as-yet-untitled Jurassic World 4, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Should Ali sign on, he would be the latest high-profile addition to a cast that includes Scarlett Johansson (the Avengers movies), Jonathan Bailey (Wicked), Manuel Garcia-Rulfo (The Lincoln Lawyer), and Rupert Friend (Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi). No details about Ali's role have been reported.

Godzilla and The Creator filmmaker Gareth Edwards is directing from a script by original Jurassic Park and The Lost World: Jurassic Park screenwriter David Koepp. Producers Frank Marshall and Patrick Crowley, behind Universal's blockbuster Jurassic World trilogy that amassed a collective $4 billion at the box office between 2015 and 2022, are producing for The Kennedy/Marshall Company, with Steven Spielberg serving as executive producer via his Amblin Entertainment.

Ali has been attached to Marvel's R-rated Blade reboot since producer Kevin Feige announced the project on stage with Ali at San Diego Comic-Con back in 2019. But that movie has undergone rounds of rewrites and false starts, pushing Blade back from its original Nov. 3, 2023 release date, to Sept. 6, 2024, then Feb. 14, 2025, and finally, its current release date: Nov. 7, 2025. Production was once expected to get underway in spring 2023, but the Hollywood writers' strike took a wooden stake to those plans -- leaving Ali's long-delayed Blade in limbo.

According to THR, production on the next Jurassic installment will begin mid-June in London ahead of its summer 2025 release date.

"I was about to take a break and I started writing my next idea for a film. [Jurassic World 4] is the only movie that would make me drop everything like a stone and dive right in," Edwards said in a recent interview. "I love Jurassic Park. I think the first movie is a cinematic masterpiece... so this opportunity is like a dream to me. And to work with Frank Marshall and Universal and David Koepp, who's writing that script, I think they're all legends. So I'm just very excited."

Universal will open Jurassic World 4 in theaters on July 2, 2025.

The Watchers: Dakota Fanning and Georgina Campbell Talk Being Directed By Ishana Night Shyamalan https://comicbook.com/horror/news/the-watchers-dakota-fanning-georgina-campbell-being-directed-by-ishana-night-shyamalan/ Thu, 30 May 2024 19:07:00 +0000 Jamie Jirak 7fdf766d-f990-452f-ac63-715786097a59

The Watchers is heading to theaters next week, and the new horror film marks the feature directorial debut of M. Night Shyamalan's daughter, Ishana Night Shyamalan. The younger Shyamalan previously helmed episodes of Servant, and now she's teaming up with Warner Bros. for The Watchers, which is adapted from A. M. Shine's novel of the same name. The film stars Dakota Fanning (Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Ocean's Eight), Georgina Campbell (Barbarian, Suspicion), Oliver Finnegan (Creeped Out, Outlander), and Olwen Fouere (The Northman, The Tourist). ComicBook recently had the chance to chat with Fanning and Campbell, and they shared what it was like to work with a first-time feature director.

"She wrote this and was directing it and had such a clear vision of what she wanted to do and you can't help but feel inspired to collaborate with someone like that," Fanning continued.

"She was so passionate and excited and so everyone, all the producers, everything, it felt very energized and she just had so many ideas and had clearly thought about this for a long time," Campbell added. "So it's lovely being able to work with people when they're that excited about projects."

You can watch our interviews with Fanning and Campbell at the top of the page.

What Is The Watchers About?

The Watchers follows an artist (Fanning) named Mina "who gets stranded in an expansive, untouched forest in western Ireland." Mina eventually finds shelter, but she "unknowingly becomes trapped alongside three strangers who are watched and stalked by mysterious creatures each night."

"Well, it was very much just imagining what the four or five of these people were like, and what they would be like together. Then, as the continual lesson that I learned during the filmmaking process, there's just a certain alchemy that happens," the filmmaker revealed during a Q&A in which ComicBook.com was in attendance. "If you're lucky enough to catch it, you do. With this path, there were all these movements that just led to this group being together. They have such an electric energy when they're all together. It's really, really cool. It's so fun. It felt like theater!"

The Watchers lands in theaters on June 7th. Stay tuned for more from our interviews about The Watchers.

Who Is Giancarlo Esposito in the MCU? https://comicbook.com/movies/news/marvel-giancarlo-esposito-mcu-villain-captain-america-4-prophet-explained-hulk-kang/ Thu, 30 May 2024 18:45:00 +0000 Aaron Perine 30310882-e814-4e90-b9bf-21bddffde825

Giancarlo Esposito is joining the MCU according to the actor himself, and new information paints a picture of who he could be playing in Captain America: Brave New World. Murphy's Multiverse wrote that the Breaking Bad star is in the upcoming Marvel movie. Immediately, fans raced to try and figure out who he could be playing. While popular fancasts like Norman Osborne and Magneto still abound on social media, there's a much lower key character that could be the likely pick. Giancarlo Esposito is probably playing the Black Widow villain Prophet, and that would make a lot of sense.

For those who are unaware, Prophet is the leader of an organization called Chaos in the Marvel Comics Universe. In essence, he's a teleported who has access to information about the future. Chaos uses this advance knowledge of the future to fund causes and initiatives that help that chosen future come to pass. Prophet tries to help influence events that occur within the Marvel Universe to ensure that the mysterious entity feeding their organization information remains in power. This all tracks with what we know about the movie so far and that makes his inclusion both a surprise and logically consistent.

(Photo: Black Widow | Nathan Edmondson)

For more than a year now, we've known that Tim Blake Nelson's The Leader would be a part of Captain America: Brave New World. In the comics, the Hulk villain is the head of The Intelligencia, a group of villains looking to dominate the world using their command of information and access to power. Those goals align almost perfectly with Prophet and that of Chaos. In fact, they're an easy way to ensure that we end up right in that Multiversal War that's been teased since the beginning frames of Loki Season 1. Think of how many shadowy forces are just laying silently in the larger MCU at the moment. It makes a lot of sense, but it isn't confirmed yet!

Giancarlo Esposito Has Been Teasing An MCU Role

giancarlo-esposito-mcu.jpg
(Photo: Jamie McCarthy/Getty Images for AMC, Marvel Studios)

A lot of Giancarlo Esposito's recent public appearances have been teasing a Marvel project. At the time, some fans believed this was a "Madame Web situation" where he singed on for a Sony Marvel movie instead of a mainline MCU project. As more information has come forward, it would seem that Marvel Studios really is his destination. Some of the specifics of his comments make way more sense after the Murphy's Multiverse piece.

During Phoenix Fan Fusion, Esposito said, "The MCU has knocked on my door and it's a role you won't predict. It will be teased and there will be a series afterwards." (Legion of Sand really helped all of us by snagging this moment on Twitter!) Clearly, Esposito's tease of joining the MCU "sooner rather than later" at CCXP was no bluff either.

Prophet would also fit into "a role you won't predict" as well. (Even though that's what we're doing right now!) But, Captain America: Brave New World has one more massive factor that makes this casting very very likely. This week, Anthony Mackie's Marvel movie is undergoing reshoots and that means the studio has even more tinkering to do with the finished product.

Captain America: Brave New World Stealthily Places Pieces On The Board

captain-america-brave-new-world-mark-ruffalo-hulk.jpg
(Photo: Marvel Entertainment)

The Multiverse Saga has continued to roll onward, but there have been a few bumps in the road. Maybe the chief among them was Jonathan Majors' firing from Marvel Studios over domestic violence charges. Desptie the severity of the claims, a lot of fans couldn't help but wonder what would become of Kang the Conqueror. While a loud section would see the MCU ditch the character entirely, that's never quite made a ton of sense for a villain that can easily be retrofitted into another concept. (Does anyone think Secret Wars won't feature Doctor Doom or The Beyonder at this point? They'll get here.)

Chaos as an organization paves the way for something like an evil Illuminati or The Masters of Evil to emerge. (In the comics this would be The Cabal, but who knows what it will be called. Illuminati would be this writer's bet at the time of writing.) Using these far-reaching forces to draw Earth 616 into a multiverse standoff feels inevitable. Then our heroes, including Captain America might have to make a tough call to choose between their home or the lives of millions.

Then, when Doom or whoever is revealed as the one who's been feeding Esposito's villain the information, you get a massive flush of excitement from the audience. (It also give Marvel a way to bring back a greatest hits team of villains for the Avengers to throttle in a movie.) Think of threads like The Power Broker's mysterious business partner, Valentina Allegra de Fontaine's actual boss, and the weird She-Hulk plot thread and lingering interest in Hulk DNA. All of them could be a big bad pulling the strings to weaken this Earth to preserve (or bring back) a Sacred Timeline. Still, you should bet we'll get a formal announcement of some sort at San Diego Comic-Con in a few months.

A Quiet Place: Day One Featurette Uncovers the Origins of the Prequel https://comicbook.com/horror/news/quiet-place-day-one-featurette-prequel-lupita-nyongo-joseph-quinn-trailer/ Thu, 30 May 2024 17:31:00 +0000 Aaron Perine 41066044-8652-455b-a0a1-bade77e25098

A Quiet Place: Day One rolled out a brand-new featurette for the prequel. Instead of the eerie farm setting of the first movie. Lupita Nyong'o and Joseph Quinn are set to endure the first hours of the alien invasion in formerly bustling New York City. (That chatter is like catnip attracting the otherworldly beings, as fans of the franchise are well-aware.) John Krasinski always designed this series to be adaptable to multiple settings. The first two outings were largely pastoral, and the shift to an urban setting has been massively unsettling to see in the first few clips of A Quiet Place: Day One.

"For A Quiet Place: Day One, we have gone back to the day the creatures invaded Earth," Nyongo explains during the featurette." Quinn adds, "For Part II, where we watched the Abbott family negotiate this invasion. Except, this time we're in New York City." Djimon Hounsou teases that this entry will be even more upsetting and that's largely due to the setting. It was devastating enough when it was just one family against the extraterrestrial. Now, the entire city is in some serious peril. Watch the featurette down below!

A Quiet Place: Day One Marks New Territory For Franchise

quiet-place-day-one-super-bowl-trailer.jpg
(Photo: Paramount)

Steering this massive property is no small feat. John Krasinski knows that well as he's been there since the earliest days of A Quiet Place. He talked to Empire Magazine about A Quiet Place: Day One last year. Jeff Nichols was a natural choice for the fan-favorite actor. But, when changes occurred, Michael Sarnoski stepped in. It's his first attempt at stepping into this world. Movie fans know him from Pig. But, this is a massive step into the limelight for the franchise as a whole.

"Truly the only person I had in mind when asked whether I would hand this off was Jeff," Krasinski told Empire last year. "I think he's one of the best filmmakers, Mud is one of my favourite movies, and so real and intimate. It's exactly the sort of paints we're painting with in A Quiet Place - very organic characters you fall in love with."

"So he was my first choice for this, and when he said yes I was over the moon," he added. "I pitched him my story, he's gone and developed the world on his own with that jumping-off point, and I'm so thrilled. He's actually just turning in a script now, and I loved it. I absolutely loved it, and I can't wait to see him shoot this thing."

The Lord of the Rings' Viggo Mortensen Addresses Possible Hunt for Gollum Return https://comicbook.com/movies/news/the-lord-of-the-rings-viggo-mortensen-addresses-possible-hunt-for-gollum-return/ Thu, 30 May 2024 17:21:00 +0000 Russ Burlingame 595bc7b7-377a-4fc4-86a8-5fa5efd63f05

Filmmaker Peter Jackson and Andy Serkis are coming back to the The Lord of the Rings franchise with the forthcoming movie The Hunt For Gollum, and now franchise star Viggo Mortensen has said he won't count himself out of it. The actor, who is promoting his new film The Dead Don't Hurt, said that he would at least consider a return to the role of Aragorn in the movie, as long as it was right for the character, and as long as his current age wouldn't be a problem for the story.

As the title suggests, Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum will feature Serkis' Gollum as its main character. Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens are writing the screenplay, along with Phoebe Gittins and Arty Papageorgiou (Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim). Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum is executive produced by Ken Kamins, with Serkis and The Imaginarium's Jonathan Cavendish. Peter Jackson is producing with Walsh and Boyens.

"I don't know exactly what the story is, I haven't heard. Maybe I'll hear about it eventually," Mortensen told GQ. "I like playing that character. I learned a lot playing the character. I enjoyed it a lot. I would only do it if I was right for it in terms of, you know, the age I am now and so forth. I would only do it if I was right for the character. It would be silly to do it otherwise."

Ironically, Aragorn's sword -- which Mortensen took home with him after filming -- will make an appearance in The Dead Don't Hurt. Why? Basically because the script called for a sword, and Mortensen already had a pretty great one.

"For over two-decades, moviegoers have embraced the Lord of the Rings film trilogy because of the undeniable devotion Peter, Fran and Philippa have shown towards protecting the legacy of Tolkien's works, and to ensure audiences could experience the incredible world he created in a way that honors his literary vision," said Warner Bros. Motion Pictures heads Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy in a joint statement when the movie was announced. "We are honored they have agreed be our partners on these two new films. With Andy coming aboard to direct Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum(*WT), we continue an important commitment to excellence that is a true hallmark of how we all want to venture ahead and further contribute to the Lord of the Rings cinematic history."

Despite The Lords of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum having a 2026 release date, no story details about what the film will explore have been revealed.

Deadpool & Wolverine's Hilarious Popcorn Bucket Might Be Even Weirder Than Dune Part 2's Bucket https://comicbook.com/marvel/news/deadpool-wolverines-hilarious-popcorn-bucket-might-be-even-weirder-than-dune-part-2s-bucket/ Thu, 30 May 2024 17:08:00 +0000 Jamie Jirak ba6f0c9f-2045-49ed-91ed-17549b755de2

Deadpool & Wolverine is heading to theaters in July, and Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman have been doing some fun promotions for the film. They've been teasing an "intentionally crude" popcorn bucket, and the results are about as horrifying as you can imagine. The popcorn bucket mayhem started earlier this year when AMC Theatres' souvenir sandworm bucket for Dune: Part Two caused a huge stir online and inspired a hilarious Saturday Night Live sketch. In April, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige took the stage at CinemaCon during Disney's presentation and teased Deadpool & Wolverine would give Dune a run for its money in the popcorn department. Well, the bucket was finally revealed today, and it sure is something.

"Don't try to butter me up. #deadpoolandwolverine ??," Jackman shared on Twitter earlier today. You can check out the video of the popcorn bucket reveal below:

AMC Exec Reacts to Dune Popcorn Bucket Backlash

Variety recently spoke with Elizabeth Frank, the Chief Content Officer for AMC and she Frank addressed the response to the Dune: Part Two bucket.

"We continue to learn and evolve. We would have never imagined the Dune thing. We would have never created it knowing it would be celebrated or mocked," Frank explained.

Blue Lock: Episode Nagi Posts First Subbed Trailer https://comicbook.com/anime/news/blue-lock-episode-nagi-first-subbed-trailer-watch/ Thu, 30 May 2024 17:03:00 +0000 Evan Valentine 84b8976b-5dfc-4333-b21e-345ec0bf62ab

Blue Lock has become a force of nature for both the sport anime genre and the anime industry as a whole. Becoming the most highly-sold manga series in 2023, it should come as no surprise that not only is the soccer series returning for a second season, but a feature-length film as well. Set to arrive in North America on June 28th next month, the first subtitled trailer has arrived on the internet to focus on the story of Nagi Seishiro.

Blue Lock has taken the world by storm since the manga first arrived in 2018 from creators Muneyuki Kaneshiro and Yusuke Nomura. One of the biggest examples of this was Nomura aiding in creating the uniforms for Japan's soccer team at the Olympics, going to show how paramount the franchise has become in a relatively short amount of time. With the manga continuing to this day, the anime adaptation most likely will have a bright future ahead of it.

Blue Lock: Episode Nagi's Subtitled Trailer

The "Blue Lock" project is one that sees the anime soccer players fighting for their futures, wherein should they fail the "games", they lose their chance at being a part of Japan's top team. While this new movie doesn't focus on the main character of the first season, it further explores the anime world with a supporting character.

If you want to learn more about Episode Nagi, here's an official description of Blue Lock's first movie, "That's a hassle.' That was second-year high schooler Nagi Seishiro's favorite phrase as he lived his dull life. Until Mikage Reo, a classmate who dreamed of winning the World Cup, discovered Nagi's hidden skill, inspiring him to play soccer and share his outstanding talent. One day, he receives an invitation to the mysterious BLUE LOCK Project. What awaits him there is an encounter with the finest strikers assembled from across the country. Nagi's dream of becoming the best, alongside Reo, will take this prodigy to a world he's never known. A prodigy can only be shaped when someone discovers him....now, striker Nagi Seishiro's incredible talent and persona will set the soccer world ablaze."

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice Reveals New Images and Cover Art in Empire's Latest Issue https://comicbook.com/movies/news/beetlejuice-2-new-images-cover-art-empire-magazine/ Thu, 30 May 2024 17:00:00 +0000 Kofi Outlaw e241e0d2-fa5e-452f-93f7-941a24e1d1c7

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is gracing the cover of Empire Magazine's latest issue, and the cast is looking frightfully good!

Michael Keaton takes center stage on the main cover, with Beetlejuice 2 stars Winona Ryder (Lydia Deetz) Catherine O'Hara (Delia Deetz), and franchise newcomer Jenna Ortega (Astrid Deetz) right alongside him. A second piece of cover art attempts to capture the spirit of Tim Burton's Beetlejuice with a trippy painting of Keaton as Beetlejuice, at the center of a purple-and-green vortex. It already screams "collector's item."

Another feature on Empire comes with a new image of Keaton's Beetlejuice, who is hanging out with old franchise favorite the shrunken head man, 'Harry the Hunter.' Harry's looking far more professional these days, having traded in his hunter's khakis for a nice yellow suit.

The nostalgia bait seems worthwhile in this case: Michael Keaton is openly confident that Tim Burton has done the (near-impossible), by recapturing the magic of the original:

"I love it [the film]" Keaton said. "I absolutely love this thing. And I don't [usually] talk like that. I unabashedly love this. It was not easy to pull off, and I think we did it in spades."

Top Gun Producer Offers Disappointing Update on Third Movie https://comicbook.com/movies/news/top-gun-producer-jerry-bruckheimer-offers-disappointing-update-on-third-movie/ Thu, 30 May 2024 16:52:00 +0000 Jamie Jirak 345fbbaf-532d-43b8-a5a7-1d1d0ccbe8ea

There were 36 years between the release of Top Gun and Top Gun: Maverick, and while fans won't have to wait that long for a third installment, the movie isn't expected any time soon. Top Gun: Maverick was the second-most successful movie of 2022, and it was revealed earlier this year a third installment is in the works with franchise star, Tom Cruise. Since the movie's announcement, producer Jerry Bruckheimer has offered some updates about the project. In his latest chat with Games Radar at the Young Woman and the Sea premiere, Bruckheimer revealed the threequel is still in the early stages.

"We had preliminary stuff," Bruckheimer said when asked if he's had conversations with Cruise. "We're not there yet. [There's] ways to go."

"It will be Tom Cruise," Bruckheimer assured Screen Rant in March when asked about Top Gun 3. "Tom is amazing. We spent time with him. We have a story. [Director] Joe Kosinski had a wonderful story idea for it, and he [Cruise] said 'I really like that' so we're developing it. But you never know when it's going to get made because Tom is so busy. He's doing Mission: Impossible right now, he's got a picture after it. Hopefully, we'll get a screenplay that he loves, and we'll be back in the air again."

Why Did Top Gun: Maverick Succeed?

Bruckheimer previously spoke with Entertainment Weekly about why Top Gun: Maverick crushed the box office and he made some Marvel comparisons.

"I think audiences have been seeing so much CGI, which is wonderful, I go see the same movies, but it's also nice to see the real deal and to be part of a camaraderie of characters that get up in the sky and have to be as good as they can be," Bruckheimer explained. "The audiences love the Marvel, they love the DC stuff. They're beautifully made by really talented people. Sometimes you want to see something that's real, and that's what Top Gun gave us... These aviators are out there protecting our country right now, flying around the world, and you're taking a ride with them. You're seeing what they do, you're seeing what their life is like, and the trials and tribulations that they have to go through. You're actually experiencing it with our actors."

Stay tuned for more updates about Top Gun 3.

Knives Out 3 Adds Jeremy Renner to Its Cast https://comicbook.com/movies/news/knives-out-3-cast-jeremy-renner-wake-up-dead-man/ Thu, 30 May 2024 16:26:00 +0000 Kofi Outlaw 7654cd15-bd6c-4ddd-b875-dffa98f8702f

Knives Out 3 cast information continues today with the announcement that Avengers and Hawkeye star will be joining the film.

Renner is the latest big-name star of film and/or TV to be joining Knives Out 3. In the last few days Glenn Close (Damages), Kerry Washington (Scandal), Andrew Scott (Sherlock), Cailee Spaeny (Priscilla), and others have all been revealed as part of Knives Out 3's cast.

The film won't be called Knives Out 3, of course: series creator and director Rian Johnson revealed that the next Benoit Blanc mystery will be titled Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery. Plot details are not yet known, other than the fact that James Bond actor Daniel Craig will once again return as Southern detective Benoit Blanc.

Wake Up Dead Man will be the third film in the series, which began in 2019 with Knives Out, followed by Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery in 2022. While the first film was a box office success ($300+ million on a $40 million budget), the sequel was acquired and released on Netflix as part of a three-picture franchise deal with Johnson. Wake Up Dead Man will also be released on Netflix.

This casting news marks another step forward in Jeremy Renner's comeback story; the actor was nearly killed in a snow plow accident on New Year's Day 2023, and has made an epic comeback to once again be onscreen. Renner's hit TV series Mayor of Kingstown is back for Season 3 this year (stream it on Paramount+), proving that he's back in step in terms of doing action, as well as delivering tension and drama.

"I think it's just I'm so blessed that I had so many things to live for, brother," Renner said in a recent appearance on CNN's New Year's Eve Live. "I have a giant family. I have a 10-year-old daughter. I would have disappointed and really messed up a lot of people's lives if I would have passed, and so there's a lot for me to get better for."

"I'm also a pretty stubborn S.O.B., you know?" Renner continued. "There's a lot for me to have to fight for, and recovery, for me, was just a one-way road in my mind ... I had so many things to fight for, so the one-way road to recovery was a mental attitude, and that was to get better, and there was no option other than that. I still work hard every day, and I thank god that I have a lot to fight for, and I couldn't be more blessed to share my life with the depths of love from my family and how everybody supported me the last year."

Wake Up Dead: A Knives Out Mystery will be released on Netflix in 2025.

Captain America 4: Giancarlo Esposito Rumored To Appear https://comicbook.com/movies/news/captain-america-4-giancarlo-esposito-mcu-villain-role-marvel-spoiler/ Thu, 30 May 2024 15:26:00 +0000 Aaron Perine 67935d99-97b6-4ecd-a7de-fa0ad8944dad

Captain America: Brave New World might contain Giancarlo Esposito's MCU debut according to the latest turn of the rumor mill. Murphy's Multiverse has reported that the Better Call Saul star will be appearing in Anthony Mackie's big 2025 Marvel movie. While the specific details of the role are unclear, it stands to reason that Esposito will be an antagonist for our new Captain America as he tangles with The Leader and President Thunderbolt Ross. Mackie and director Julius Onah have teased that Sam Wilson was going to have a trial by fire with Captain America: Brave New World, and throwing yet another obstacle in there would definitely confirm that.

"The MCU has knocked on my door and it's a role you won't predict," Esposito claimed during Phoenix Fan Fusion. (Credit to Legion of Sand for snagging the quote on Twitter.) "It will be teased and there will be a series afterwards." Clearly, the Mandalorian star meant it when he said that he was joining the MCU "sooner rather than later" at CCXP recently. But, no one could have imagined this was a tease for Captain America: Brave New World as a lot of the information about the film was believed to be set in stone. (This week's reshoots could be even bigger than many might anticipate.)

Captain America: Brave New World Set To Test Sam Wilson

Sam Wilson's back is going to be up against the wall in Captain America: Brave New World. Anthony Mackie talked about the stakes of this movie and how The Multiverse Saga is developing during an interview with Entertainment Weekly a few weeks ago. The MCU star explained that things are shifting into a higher gear for his character and the other heroes. He already had a Red Hulk and The Leader to deal with. But, add Esposito's bad guy into the mix? Yeah, things are getting serious for Captain America this time.

"This movie is a clear reset. It really reestablishes the idea of what this universe is and what this universe is going to be," Mackie shared. "I think with these movies, you're getting a clear, new branding of what Marvel is headed towards the same way they did with Captain America: The Winter Soldier."

"The title implies that there's a new, bigger enemy now; there's a new frontier that we have to conquer," Mackie added. "From Captain America: The First Avenger to Endgame, the enemy was always good versus bad. Now that we've conquered that, where do we go from here? When the bad guys reappear, in what form are they reappearing? It is a new storyline with new characters, with new beliefs, and it creates a new idea of this new world that we're going into."

Batman Ninja Sequel Announced https://comicbook.com/anime/news/batman-ninja-sequel-anime-movie/ Thu, 30 May 2024 15:02:00 +0000 Megan Peters c7f75321-0322-41f5-bc5f-f530fa05c54b

It's happening, guys! Back in 2018, the world was introduced to a new type of superhero with Batman Ninja. The ambitious anime adaptation gave Bruce Wayne an all-new makeover, and now it seems a sequel is on the way. Warner Bros. Japan has confirmed Batman Ninja vs Yakuza League is in the works, and we've been given a peek at its logo.

As you can see below, the official logo for Batman Ninja vs Yakuza League is incredibly sleek. We have a bit of blood splattering which is hardly surprising given Batman's line of work. When push comes to shove, the Gotham hero will do anything to protect his people, and that includes knocking heads.

At this time, Batman Ninja vs Yakuza League has yet to land a release window, but fans are hoping the movie goes live sometime this year. We will have to wait for more info from Warner Bros. Japan in that regard. But while you wait, you can always check out the first film of the series.

After all, Batman Ninja is available online thanks to services like Prime Video, YouTube, Apple TV, and more. If you are not familiar with the 2018 film, the anime feature is directed by Junpei Mizusaki with animation by Kamikaze Dough and Yamato Works. The film follows Batman after he is sent to feudal Japan following a run-in with Gorilla Grodd. It is there Batman comes face-to-face with some familiar foes who are causing havoc across Japan. It falls to Batman to put these villains in line now that he's joined the feudal era.

Want to know more about Batman Ninja? You can read its official synopsis below for all the details:

"Japan's finest artists reimagine Batman and his adversaries in this ground-breaking anime feature. In an all-new story, The Dark Knight travels to a land ruled by sword-wielding samurai and ninja assassins. Beginning in Gotham City, Gorilla Grodd's time displacement machine malfunctions sending a crazed cast of tyrannical villains back in time to terrorize medieval Japan. The most depraved is Lord Joker, who seeks total domination of the feudal states and the final elimination of the legendary Batman. Can The Caped Crusader gain the advantage-without his signature tech- to keep Lord Joker and the others from rewriting history? Watch as an ancient legend comes to life in this stunningly realized, adrenaline-fueled addition to the Batman saga."

Marvel Reveals How Across the Spider-Verse Spider-Woman Almost Married an Avenger https://comicbook.com/comics/news/across-the-spider-verse-spider-woman-marvel-comics-hawkeye-relationship/ Thu, 30 May 2024 14:57:00 +0000 Timothy Adams 91744fa5-4528-4ff0-b5d4-1c91eb54e07c

The Spider-Woman who debuted in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse has officially joined the Marvel Universe. Issa Rae voiced Jessica Drew in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, and the film introduced a motorcycle-riding, pregnant Jessica Drew to viewers. While moviegoers may not have been familiar with the Spider-Verse, comic book readers have enjoyed its exploits most recently in Edge of Spider-Verse. The miniseries caught up with fan-favorite Spider heroes while also creating all-new heroes. One of the short stories in the final issue of Edge of Spider-Verse put the spotlight squarely on the new Spider-Woman, and the romantic relationship she had with an Avenger.

*WARNING: The following article contains spoilers for Edge of Spider-Verse #4. Continue reading at your own risk!

The story "The Hard Road" in Edge of Spider-Verse #4 comes from the creative team of Nilah Magruder, Marcus Williams, Eric Gapstur, Ra?l Angulo, and VC's Joe Caramagna, with special thanks to Phil Lord. Spider-Woman narrates for the reader, and we learn that she's retelling an old story to her kid about a time when she was late to a dinner anniversary with their Dad. While driving on her motorcycle, she spots an explosion on top of a high-rise building and races up its side to check it out. There she's met by Hawkeye, who she has a romantic history with.

(Photo: Marvel Comics)

"Yes, that's right. You were nearly Little Baby Barton," Spider-Woman narrates to her child. She also states how Hawkeye was one of her biggest mistakes in life. This Hawkeye is working with Taskmaster, but according to Hawkeye, it's complicated. Spider-Woman and Hawkeye then spend their time fighting with their fists, arrows, webs, and words, taking shots at each other verbally while also physically.

Spider-Woman ultimately wins their fight and ties Hawkeye up for the authorities to find. Before they go their separate ways, Hawkeye tells Spider-Woman that whoever she is with now is a lucky guy. Later that night, Jessica Drew shows up for her date, and the story ends before we learn who she's in a relationship with now. Is it another established Marvel character that we already know? Maybe we'll find out in Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse.

Issa Rae comments on pregnant Spider-Woman

ComicBook spoke to Issa Rae on the red carpet for the Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse premiere, where she talked about how the filmmakers used their knowledge of the character to craft something truly unique among Spider-Lore.

"You know, I'm so excited that the filmmakers chose to use their nerdy knowledge of the Spider-Man canon to incorporate this specific art for Jessica Drew where she happens to be pregnant, kicking a** on a motorcycle. Which I am terrified of," Rae laughed. "I just think it's just, so special. She's also like the only Spider-Person who doesn't wear a mask and she's out here saving the world because she doesn't have anything to hide. She's like you can get this work any time."

Hogwarts Legacy Gives Harry Potter Fans Early Look at Summer Update https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/hogwarts-legacy-harry-potter-summer-update/ Thu, 30 May 2024 14:48:00 +0000 Tanner Dedmon 34d35a80-0128-4823-9db9-62fe031717ba

Hogwarts Legacy developer Avalanche Software announced previously plans for an update to be released in the summer, and this week, the studio offered a more detailed preview of what's included in that update. A photo mode is on the way as are some glasses that'll look quite familiar to Harry Potter fans as they're modeled after the ones that Harry himself wore early on in the Harry Potter movies. Best of all, the Hogwarts Legacy summer update finally got a release date, too, with the summer update scheduled to be released next week on June 6th in the midst of all the summer gaming events.

As far as new features go, the photo mode is the highlight with the option to reset talent points being the other main feature added in this update. The rest of the content planned consists of some cosmetics, recipes, and the full release of the Haunted Hogsmeade quest which has so far been exclusive to the PlayStation platform.

Avalanche Software said previously that the exclusive quest would eventually come to other platforms as well which didn't go over quite as well with PlayStation owners at the time, but it's hard to be annoyed at that part of the update since the quest is coming to other platforms around a year and four months after Hogwarts Legacy released. The Onyx Hippogriff mount which was previously exclusive to those who preordered the game will also be made available to everyone regardless of whether they preordered the game or not.

hogwarts-legacy-summer-update.png

Aside from those features, the rest of the update consists of players getting the Felix Felicis Potion Recipe, an Azkaban-themed outfit, and the Lavender Borealis Broom. The glasses shown in the top-right of the image above are not so subtlety called "The Glasses That Lived" and will help in making your character look like Harry Potter if that's been your goal for Hogwarts Legacy.

These are the main components of the summer update for Hogwarts Legacy, but we'll most likely see a few smaller things as well once the patch notes for the update drop. The Hogwarts Legacy summer update releases on June 6th, so expect those notes around that time.

Pixar Debating Incredibles and Finding Nemo Reboots https://comicbook.com/movies/news/pixar-disney-incredibles-finding-nemo-reboot-report/ Thu, 30 May 2024 14:22:00 +0000 Aaron Perine 19cf85ad-ea71-4426-826d-ca5f3f41350f

Pixar is reportedly considering rebooting The Incredibles and Finding Nemo as the animatiion studio leans further into popular franchises. Bloomberg published a report on the state of Pixar as Inside Out 2 draws closer. In their account, they revealed that the famed animation house is considering rebooting or revisiting a bunch of their storied successes in a hope to bank on existing fans. The Incredibles and Finding Nemo were the kind of massive successes that immediately paid dividends at the Disney Parks and with merchandise. With so much restructuring going on at the company, CEO Bob Iger and management are looking for wins where they can find them.

In the Bloomberg piece, Pixar argues they're very confident in Inside Out 2. But, ultimately, moviegoers actually decide what ends up being successful in a lot of cases. If the sequel to a beloved movie doesn't hit the marks that management is looking for, fans might be in for a string of reboots. "With a sequel, if you put something out there that doesn't have the goods, then you will be punished for it," Pixar President Jim Morris said. "Having had the doldrums we did, it will certainly be a good test with Inside Out 2 for us to see: Does this stuff still work, or does it not?"

Reasons For Optimism With Inside Out 2

inside-out-2-trailer.png
(Photo: Pixar)

One thing is clearly working in Inside Out 2's favor, people really loved the first one and the response to the second entry's rollout has been encouraging. Across multiple social media platforms, Inside Out 2's trailer is the biggest animated trailer launch in Disney's history. A staggering 157 million views rolled in during the first 24 hours of being posted alone. That's bigger than Frozen 2, Encanto, and Moana, for reference. So, there's some clear momentum building behind the movie. Another good omen is that it's been almost a decade since fans got to check-in on Riley and her emotions. All of this bodes pretty well in a theater marketplace that's more uncertain than ever.

Pixar's CCO thanked fans for making the trailer such a smash when it debuted. "We are thrilled so many people have tuned in to check out the new trailer for Inside Out 2," Pete Docter wrote at the time. "When the first film came out, we knew that by telling a story where we could see our emotions -- those little voices inside your head -- there would be so much more to explore than we could possibly fit into one film. We couldn't be more grateful to see the kind of response the trailer has received so far. Thank you to all who have checked it out -- we can't wait for everyone to see the film when it comes to theaters next summer."

Activist Investor Nelson Peltz Sells Disney Stock After Losing Proxy Battle With Bob Iger https://comicbook.com/movies/news/nelson-peltz-activist-investor-sells-disney-stock-proxy-battle-loss-bob-iger/ Thu, 30 May 2024 13:32:00 +0000 Timothy Adams 6c4435df-5b1e-4345-b2aa-ee41d0e452c3

Nelson Peltz, the activist investor who lost a proxy battle with Bob Iger earlier in the year, has reportedly sold his stake in Disney. This brings to end a long-simmering feud between Peltz and Iger, with the former attempting a power grab to push Iger out at Disney and appoint himself and his colleagues to the Disney board of trustees. Back in April, Disney shareholders rejected Nelson Peltz and his Trian Fund Management partners' bid to join the Disney board. Disney shareholders backed Iger and the rest of the board, and now it appears Peltz is moving on.

CNBC reports Nelson Peltz sold his entire Disney stake, according to a person familiar with the matter. He reportedly sold his Disney stock at about $120 a share, which earned him around $1 billion. Disney stock is currently trading at around $100 per share. Part of Peltz's issue with Bob Iger's reign at Disney had to do with the company's streaming and theatrical strategy, most notably calling out feature films Captain Marvel and Black Panther. His comments called out the reasoning behind having movies that were comprised of "all women" and "all Black" casts.

"Why do I have to have a Marvel [movie] that's all women?" Peltz wondered before the proxy vote was underway in April. "Not that I have anything against women, but why do I have to do that? Why can't I have Marvels that are both? Why do I need an all-Black cast?"

Nelson Peltz's feud with Bob Iger

Some of the animosity between Nelson Peltz and Bob Iger is tied to Ike Perlmutter, the former chairman of Marvel Entertainment. Iger told CNBC about the power play's underlying dynamics during an interview. He pointed out how Trian Partners is 75% owned by Ike Perlmutter. The former Marvel executive has some complicated personal ties to both Disney and Marvel that help color the conflict that continues to play out.

"Our filings indicate that both Ike and Nelson were working together to try to encourage the board or convince the board to put Nelson on the board," he recalled. "They have a relationship that dates back quite some time. We bought Marvel in 2009. I promised Ike the job that he would continue to run Marvel after that. Not forever, necessarily. But after that."

Iger continued, "And in 2015 he was intent on firing Kevin Feige who was running Marvel's studio, the movie making [operation] at the time, and I thought that was a mistake and stepped in to prevent that from happening. I think Kevin is an incredibly, incredibly talented executive that you know, the Marvel track record speaks for itself. And so I moved the moviemaking operation of Marvel out from under Ike into the movie studio under Alan Horn."

Spider-Man 4: Bad Boys For Life Co-Director Plays Coy About Directing Rumors https://comicbook.com/movies/news/spider-man-4-bad-boys-for-life-co-director-plays-coy-about-directing-rumors/ Thu, 30 May 2024 11:02:00 +0000 Russ Burlingame 043cca0b-8bc1-4201-b96c-8cb0d45a0b66 Bilall Fallah, one of the two directors of Bad Boys For Life and the upcoming Bad Boys: Ride or Die, had nothing to say about rumors that he could be on deck to direct the next big-screen Spider-Man movie. When a fan site called him over at a Bad Boys: Ride or Die event to ask whether he and his collaborator Adil El Arbi might take on ol' Webhead, Falah just laughed and reached out to cover the camera lens, indicating he can't talk about it. Of course, some people will take this as an admission he is in talks with Marvel about the project, but it's equally likely he's just trying to have fun with the rumors while they last.

The pair, who are credited onscreen as Adil & Bilali, have already dipped their toes into the superhero pool -- although they don't have much to show for it. They directed Batgirl, starring Leslie Grace, Michael Keaton, J.K. Simmons, and Brendan Fraser. The movie was almost complete when it was scrapped by Warner Bros. Discovery, who decided to shelve the project and claim it as a loss on their taxes.

You can see the video below.

The success of Bad Boys For Life helped make the pair fairly sought-after in Hollywood, so it's certainly not out of the question that Marvel could be eyeing them for a project -- whether it's Spider-Man or something else. With Jon Watts, who directed the previous three live-action Spider-Man movies, now out of the picture, the director's chair is wide open.

In Bad Boys: Ride or Die, wise-cracking Miami cops Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett are back in action when they learn that their former captain was posthumously framed for working for a drug cartel, igniting a mission to uncover the truth of the conspiracy to find out who set up their late superior. Not only do they hope to restore the honor of their late captain, but also find out who set him up and who might be putting targets on their backs next.

Will Smith, Martin Lawrence, Vanessa Hudgens, Alexander Ludwig, Paola N??ez, Jacob Scipio, Joe Pantoliano, and DJ Khaled all return to star in the fourth entry in the series, which adds Tasha Smith, Eric Dane, Ioan Gruffudd, Melanie Liburd, and Tiffany Haddish. The Exorcist: Mike Flanagan Confirmed to Write and Direct "Radical New Take" https://comicbook.com/movies/news/the-exorcist-mike-flanagan-confirmed-write-direct-new/ Wed, 29 May 2024 22:50:00 +0000 Jenna Anderson 01e79eb3-dab8-4528-bd95-cd81e845b7e0

A new take on The Exorcist franchise is officially on the way. On Wednesday, it was confirmed that Mike Flanagan (Midnight Mass, The Fall of the House of Usher) will be writing, directing, and producing a new Exorcist movie. Flanagan's new film is being described as "an all-new story set in The Exorcist universe and is not a sequel to 2023's The Exorcist: Believer." The film will be produced by Flanagan, Trevor Macy, and John Scherer.

"The Exorcist is one of the reasons I became a filmmaker, and it is an honor to have the chance to try something fresh, bold, and terrifying within its universe," Flanagan said in a statement. "Reuniting with my friends at Blumhouse, with whom I've made some of my favorite pieces of work, only makes this more exciting."

"Mike's voice and vision are indispensable for horror fans and we are excited to welcome him back to Blumhouse," Jason Blum echoed. "I immediately responded to Mike's new take on the world of The Exorcist and can't wait for audiences to experience it."

"It's an honor to be working with Mike," David Robinson, Chairman and CEO of Morgan Creek, added. "I think his vision for this franchise is going to stun audiences worldwide, and I could not be more excited to be working with him, Trevor, Jason and the entire Blumhouse Team."

Why Isn't The Exorcist: Believer Getting a Sequel?

The rights to The Exorcist franchise were acquired by Universal and Blumhouse in 2021 in a $400 million distribution deal, which originally encompassed a new trilogy of films. At the time, there was an option for the second and third installments potentially being exclusive to Universal's Peacock streaming service.

As previous reporting on Flanagan's involvement indicated, this pivot would allow Universal and Blumhouse to deliver the two additional Exorcist movies that they originally signed up for, without necessarily being impacted by Believer's bad reception and box office.

What Is The Exorcist: Believer About?

In The Exorcist: Believer, since the death of his pregnant wife in a Haitian earthquake 12 years ago, Victor Fielding (Tony winner and Oscar nominee Leslie Odom, Jr.; One Night in Miami, Hamilton) has raised their daughter, Angela (Lidya Jewett, Good Girls) on his own. But when Angela and her friend Katherine (newcomer Olivia Marcum), disappear in the woods, only to return three days later with no memory of what happened to them, it unleashes a chain of events that will force Victor to confront the nadir of evil and, in his terror and desperation, see out the only person alive who has witnessed anything like this before: Chris MacNeil. The film also stars Emmy winner Ann Dowd (The Handmaid's Tale, Hereditary) as Victor and Angela's neighbor, and Grammy winner Jennifer Nettles (Harriet, The Righteous Gemstones) and two-time Tony winner Norbert Leo Butz (Fosse/Verdon, Bloodline) as the parents of Katherine, Angela's friend.

"Well, it's fun. We had a road map that thought, 'You know, if the world will embrace what we're making here, then we'll keep it going,'" director David Gordon Green previously told ComicBook.com of the prospect of a sequel. "So we have a nice road map, and then once we got into production, the movie took on a life of its own, and we took some detours on that road. But I'm excited that if this movie is well received and we can keep them cranking, we got some new avenues to explore."

Just Cause Movie in the Works from Blue Beetle Director https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/just-cause-movie-blue-beetle-director/ Wed, 29 May 2024 21:16:00 +0000 Tanner Dedmon 9ecb49b1-91e6-4f7c-bbb3-c56f2ec2b1ca

The Just Cause movie which looks to adapt the Square Enix series of the same name is once again back in business with ?ngel Manuel Soto, the director of the relatively new Blue Beetle movie, now on board to direct. This latest Just Cause announcement makes for the most recent development in a long saga to bring the game from developer Avalanche Studios and the publisher Square Enix to the big screen with the previous iteration of the project having been worked on at Constantin Films for quite awhile. The new vision for the Just Cause movie does not yet have a release date nor does it even have any cast announced.

What we do know, however, is that the Just Cause movie is no longer at Constantin Films. After being in development for years and having names such as John Wick creator Derek Kolstad attached to the Just Cause movie, it's now undergone a reset of sorts with Universal Pictures handling the movie after rights lapsed, The Hollywood Reporter said in its report.

Joining Soto to work on Universal's new Just Cause movie are Kelly McCormick and David Leitch, a pair of producers that previously worked on The Fall Guy and Nobody. Dmitri M. Johnson, Mike Goldberg and Timothy I. Stevenson from Story Kitchen are on board as well, Story Board being a media company thbat's already worked on several video game adaptations including the Sonic the Hedgehog movies, the animated Tomb Raider series coming out this year, and the adaptations of the hit game It Takes Two.

While the Just Cause series has expanded far beyond the original Just Cause from 2006 to include several different games, the original experience stars Rico Rodriguez, a Latin operative specializing in regime change. It's set within South America during a tumultuous time which players find themselves at the center of.

"In Just Cause, you are a Latin field operative and specialist in regime change backed by top secret US government agency who will overthrow the corrupt government of San Esperito," an overview of the game offered. "The rogue South American state is suspected of stockpiling Weapons of Mass Destruction, and it's your mission to negate the threat this poses to world peace. It could be to your advantage that the tropical paradise is about to implode as various factions vie for power - it just needs a gentle nudge in the right direction."

The Just Cause movie does not yet have any talent attached beyond the producers and director mentioned previously.

Moana 2 Synopsis Reveals How Much Time Has Passed Between Movies https://comicbook.com/movies/news/moana-2-disney-sequel-timeline-movies-three-years-maui/ Wed, 29 May 2024 21:07:00 +0000 Charlie Ridgely b0f6a1ab-68c2-4bd0-a514-4a0440bcc7db

Moana is returning to the big screen this year to once again set sail across the ocean. Moana 2 arrives in theaters on November 27th and will see the titular hero reunite with the demigod Maui, eight years after the original Moana was released. In that time, the first Moana has become one of the most popular movies in the world, but the story on-screen won't exactly mirror the time that has passed in reality.

When the trailer for Moana 2 arrived on Wednesday morning, Disney also unveiled a new synopsis for the film. That synopsis came with the reveal that the Disney sequel takes place three years after the story of the original. That allows some time to pass in Moana's world, giving her the chance to grow up and evolve a little bit, but not enough time as passed that everything in her life is drastically different.

You can check out the official synopsis for Moana 2 below.

"Moana 2 reunites Moana and Maui three years later for an expansive new voyage alongside a crew of unlikely seafarers. After receiving an unexpected call from her wayfinding ancestors, Moana must journey to the far seas of Oceania and into dangerous, long-lost waters for an adventure unlike anything she's ever faced."

Moana 2 will see the return of original stars Auli'i Cravalho and Dwayne Johnson. The film is directed by Dave Derrick Jr. featuring music from Abigail Barlow, Emily Bear, Opetaia Foa'i, and Mark Mancina. Lin Manuel Miranda won't be coming back to write songs for Moana 2.

Moana Live-Action Movie

In addition to Moana 2, Disney is also working on a live-action version of the first Moana film. Dwayne Johnson is producing the live-action film and reprising his role as Maui. In that film, however, Cravalho won't be playing the titular role. A new actress will be taking over the role, but Cravalho is set to be an executive producer.

The live-action Moana is being directed by Hamilton's Thomas Kail. Original Moana writer Jared Bush wrote the new screenplay alongside Dana Ledoux Miller.

This adventure was initially set to hit theaters in Summer 2025, but Disney opted to push the film back, seemingly to fit Johnson's schedule and to create some distance from Moana 2. The film was moved a year ahead, now set to bow on June 19, 2026.

The Crow Star Reveals Unexpected Criticism of the New Film https://comicbook.com/horror/news/the-crow-remake-reboot-ending-reaction-bill-skarsgard-eric-draven/ Wed, 29 May 2024 20:58:00 +0000 Patrick Cavanaugh 98293103-e786-42c6-9178-689aa645a0a0

Fans still have to wait a few months before getting to see the reimagining of James O'Barr's The Crow, with one of its earliest critics being one of the most surprising, which is star Bill Skarsg?rd. More specifically, the actor recently shared with Esquire how he wishes the ending of the film had a bit more of a concrete resolution. Neither the outlet nor the actor offered specific details on how the film is left open-ended and what characters could be continued in a follow-up film, so we'll have to wait until August 23rd to see if we agree with him.

While speaking with the outlet, Skarsg?rd noted that he feels some detachment from the project that he wrapped filming on two years ago and specifically cites of the film's finale, "I personally preferred something more definitive."

The original 1994 adaptation of The Crow starred Brandon Lee as Eric Draven, who is resurrected by the spirit of The Crow a year after he and his fiancee Shelly are murdered by local thugs. Lee tragically died during filming due to an injury he suffered on set, though the nature of the concept and of the original O'Barr comics allowed new characters to be revived by the spirit of The Crow in subsequent adventures. In addition to earning three movie sequels, the concept was also adapted for a TV series.

Previous movies and attempts to reboot the material pivoted away from Eric Draven, though Skarsg?rd has taken the reins of the iconic figure. Whether the actor's comments reflect that his character could return in another film or if he's addressing another issue entirely is yet to be revealed.

The Crow is described, "Soulmates Eric (Skarsg?rd) and Shelly (FKA twigs) are brutally murdered when the demons of her dark past catch up with them. Given the chance to save his true love by sacrificing himself, Eric sets out to seek merciless revenge on their killers, traversing the worlds of the living and the dead to put the wrong things right."

The new The Crow was directed by Rupert Sanders and also stars Danny Huston.

Stay tuned for updates on The Crow before it lands in theaters on August 23rd.

Knives Out 3 Enlists Glenn Close Into the Mystery https://comicbook.com/movies/news/knives-out-3-glenn-close-cast-wake-up-dead-man/ Wed, 29 May 2024 20:45:00 +0000 Jenna Anderson 92afa9d7-0c11-4b13-9b22-2507984e6a51

The third Knives Out movie is rapidly beginning to take shape, with Rian Johnson recently sharing the full title and first details surrounding the upcoming blockbuster. Titled Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, the ensemble cast of the film has been revealed in subsequent days -- and now, we know it will include a prolific actress. On Wednesday, report from The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Glenn Close (Fatal Attraction, 101 Dalmatians) is in talks to join the cast of Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery. Details around her role are currently under wraps.

Released in 2019, the first Knives Out was a financial and critical success, leading to two sequels being greenlit by Netflix. Wake Up Dead Man will be the second sequel, following 2022's Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery.

Who Is in the Cast of Knives Out 3?

Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery will be led by franchise star Daniel Craig, who is reprising his role as Detective Benoit Blanc. New cast members for Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery will include Josh O'Connor (Challengers, The Crown), Cailee Spaeny (Civil War, Priscilla), Andrew Scott (Sherlock, Fleabag) and Kerry Washington (Scandal, Little Fires Everywhere).

"I love everything about whodunnits, but one of the things I love most is how malleable the genre is. There's a whole tonal spectrum from Carr to Christie, and getting to explore that range is one of the most exciting things about making Benoit Blanc movies," Johnson shared when announcing the first details around Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery. "We're about to go into production on the 3rd one, and I'm very, very excited to share the title, which gives a little hint of where it's going."

What Is Knives Out 3 About?

Plot details for Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery are currently unknown, outside of the return of Benoit Blanc. As those tied to the film have revealed, the newest chapter in the saga will be "very, very different" from both Knives Out and Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery.

"The first one, [Johnson] had the idea for years in his head, but he only put pen to paper like late January and by end of October we were filming it, which is a super fast," producer Ram Bergman previously told ComicBook.

Moana 2: Everything We Know About the Animated Disney Sequel So Far https://comicbook.com/movies/news/moana-2-trailer-cast-release-date-everything-we-know/ Wed, 29 May 2024 20:01:00 +0000 Cameron Bonomolo 207f5dd4-3c91-4d85-901d-dc1a570cb00d

The line where the sky meets the sea is calling Moana once more.

It's a call that Motunui chief and wayfinder Moana (Auli'i Cravalho) answers in the first trailer for Moana 2. Along with the shape-shifting demigod Maui (Dwayne Johnson), clucking companion Heihei (Alan Tudyk), pet pig Pua, and a crew of unlikely seafarers, Moana and Maui set out on an expansive new voyage taking them beyond the reef in Walt Disney Animation Studios' theatrical sequel to the 2016 animated movie that grossed a splashy $687 million at the global box office. (A live-action Moana remake starring Johnson is also in the works at Disney.)

Before the animated Moana and Maui embark on their next sea-faring saga this Thanksgiving, ComicBook has rounded up everything we know so far about Moana 2. What can we say except... you're welcome?

moana-2-characters.png

What is Moana 2 about?

Moana 2 reunites Moana and Maui three years after the original movie. After she receives an unexpected call from her wayfinding ancestors, Moana must journey to the far seas of Oceania and into dangerous, long-lost waters for an adventure unlike anything she's ever faced.

The trailer shows Moana -- who became the new chief of her island village after she sailed treacherous waters to restore the stolen heart of Te Fiti, the mother island -- as an experienced wayfinder who must make another journey across the ocean, far from the safety of home and her people. "This is a call from the ancestors to sail to new skies and reconnect our people across the entire ocean," Moana says in the trailer.

Who's in the Moana 2 cast?

So far, the only confirmed cast members are Auli'i Cravalho, reprising her role as Moana, and Dwayne Johnson back as Maui, a shapeshifter, demigod of the wind and sea, hero of men.

"I'm very excited for Moana's future," Cravalho told ComicBook in a 2022 interview, before it was announced that she would reprise her role in a theatrical sequel. "It was such a blessing to play that character. She really changed my life, my first job, my way into this industry. And she keeps giving back. People keep finding the film, and I think it resonates with young women and young audiences even today. Even though it's six years later, it's still very timely."

Who's directing Moana 2?

Dave Derrick Jr. -- who worked as a story artist on the original Moana, a storyboard artist on Raya and the Last Dragon and Encanto, and served as head of story on Disney's Strange World -- makes his directorial debut on the animated movie. In 2022, Derrick said that working on Moana deepened his connection with his family's Samoan roots. Moana "caught and shared the spirit of Polynesia with the world," the animation veteran said. "I am honored to continue her story and to celebrate the rich and beautiful cultures of the Pacific Islands." The co-director is Big Hero 6 and Zootopia story artist Jason Hand, who served as head of story for Encanto.

The producers are Oscar-winning Encanto producer Yvett Merino and Christina Chen (Disney's Us Again animated short and the Disney+ animated series Iw?j?).

What is the Moana 2 release date?

The Moana sequel sails into theaters over Thanksgiving on November 27, 2024.

Who's doing the Moana 2 music?

Lin-Manuel Miranda, who worked on the Moana soundtrack with Opetaia Foa'i and Mark Mancina, is not returning (instead, Miranda is doing the music for the upcoming Mufasa: The Lion King). Moana 2 features music by Foa'i and Mancina and Grammy winners Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear (The Unofficial Bridgerton Musical).

What happened to Moana, the Series?

During Disney Investor Day 2020, Walt Disney Animation Studios chief creative officer Jennifer Lee (of Frozen fame) announced that an animated musical television series -- titled Moana, the Series -- was in the works for Disney+ alongside new animated series inspired by Disney Animation movies Big Hero 6, The Princess and the Frog, and Zootopia. However, Disney CEO Bob Iger made waves when he revealed a surprise earlier this year: The studio was so impressed by the planned Moana TV series that the project was reworked into a full-length theatrical feature. Following last year's Wish, Moana 2 will be the 63rd animated movie in the Walt Disney Animation Studios canon when it sets sail on Nov. 27.

What about the live-action Moana remake?

Along with the animated Moana 2, a live-action reimagining of Moana has been dated for July 10, 2026. Johnson will reprise his role as Maui and will produce with Dany Garcia (Disney's Jungle Cruise) and Hiram Garcia (Jumanji: The Next Level) for their Seven Bucks Productions and Beau Flynn (Red Notice) for Flynn Picture Co. Cravalho, 23, won't be starring as the live-action Moana, but the actress is also on board the project as a producer with Scott Sheldon of Flynn Picture Co.

Moana directing duo John Musker and Ron Clements are not involved with the live-action adaptation of their 2016 animated movie. Thomas Kail, who directed the Lin-Manuel Miranda musicals In the Heights and Hamilton, will make his feature directorial debut on the project that the studio said will "celebrate the islands, communities, and traditions of Pacific Islanders as seen through the eyes of a young woman eager to pave her own path."

A Quiet Place: Day One Rating Confirmed https://comicbook.com/movies/news/a-quiet-place-day-one-rating-confirmed/ Wed, 29 May 2024 18:06:00 +0000 Russ Burlingame 60b745b3-f700-44a6-999f-67b4d4ce7536

The Motion Picture Association has rated A Quiet Place: Day One PG-13. The prequel, which stars Lupito Nyong'o, Djimon Hounsou, and Joseph Quinn, reportedly earned the rating for "terror and violent content/bloody images." Set in the world of A Quiet Place, the movie is set to depict how a big city deals with an attack by giant monsters who hone in on sound to stalk people as prey. The first two films in the franchise centered on a family, with director John Krasinski playing the father. Hounsou serves as the connective tissue between this prequel and the other films.

Paramount has been pretty cagey about the plot of the movie, with the tagline -- "Discover why our world went quiet" -- being all there is to the movie's official synopsis.

"That's not a horror movie, not really. I might get in trouble for saying that," Wolff told Discussing Film earlier this year. "It's from the director of Pig, this film I did, so it's very...it's more a drama. It's weird going from a $2 million movie to a $100 million movie, and working with the same director and in the same proximity [as the other actors]. There's only about four or five characters in it. So it was kinda like making Pig, just on a massive scale."

A Quiet Place: Day One is being directed by Pig helmer Michael Sarnoski, making it the first film in the franchise not directed by Krasinski. When Krasinski first revealed that he wouldn't be directing the prequel, he said that Nichols was his first choice to take over.

"Truly the only person I had in mind when asked whether I would hand this off was Jeff," Krasinski told Empire last year. "I think he's one of the best filmmakers, Mud is one of my favourite movies, and so real and intimate. It's exactly the sort of paints we're painting with in A Quiet Place - very organic characters you fall in love with. So he was my first choice for this, and when he said yes I was over the moon. I pitched him my story, he's gone and developed the world on his own with that jumping-off point, and I'm so thrilled. He's actually just turning in a script now, and I loved it. I absolutely loved it, and I can't wait to see him shoot this thing."

A Quiet Place: Day One is set to release in theaters on June 28.

Masters of the Universe Movie Casts Its Live-Action He-Man https://comicbook.com/movies/news/masters-of-the-universe-movie-casts-its-live-action-he-man/ Wed, 29 May 2024 17:47:00 +0000 Russ Burlingame 00fd0da1-4e9d-4c29-bec6-a78adc1f287d

Amazon MGM Studios announced today that they have cast Nicholas Galitzine in the lead role of He-Man in their planned 2025 Masters of the Universe movie. While this is just the latest in a long line of attempts to get Masters of the Universe made, it does seem to be one of the stronger contenders to actually, eventually exist, with a successful filmmaker (Bumblebee's Travis Knight) at the helm and a studio eager to score some genre hits. If it does go forward, Galitzine will be the second actor to play He-Man in live action, after Dolph Lundgren did so in a 1987 bomb-turned-cult-classic. The part was previously won by To All The Boys I've Loved Before heartthrob Noah Centineo, but he left, was replaced by Kyle Allen, then that movie fell apart and the rights lapsed.

Like that movie, much of Masters of the Universe will take place on Earth, with a young Prince Adam stranded here and separated from his source of power. No word on who will play the younger version of Galitzine, although it doesn't seem likely we'll get a kid-into-adult swap a la Shazam! this time around.

"We're thrilled to bring the beloved Masters of the Universe to life and couldn't be more excited to announce the immensely talented Nicholas Galitzine as our He-Man," said Julie Rapaport, head of film production and development at Amazon MGM Studios. "This reintroduction of the character and his universe will be an epic film that will delight audiences from here to Eternia."

According to the studio's synopsis, in Masters of the Universe, 10-year-old Prince Adam who crashed to Earth in a spaceship and was separated from his magical Power Sword--the only link to his home on Eternia. After tracking it down almost two decades later, Prince Adam is whisked back across space to defend his home planet against the evil forces of Skeletor. But to defeat such a powerful villain, Prince Adam will first need to uncover the mysteries of his past and become He-Man: the most powerful man in the Universe!

The franchise has already spawned two successful animated series on Netflix -- She-Ra and the Princess of Power, and Masters of the Universe: Revolution. Supergirl star Chris Wood provided the voice of He-Man in the latter. During the almost 20 years that Mattel has been trying to make a Masters movie happen, filmmakers like McG, Jeff Wadlow, and Jon M. Chu have cycled in and out.

Per Variety, who first reported Galitzine's casting, Masters of the Universe will be produced by Escape Artists' Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal and Steve Tisch, as well as Mattel Films' Robbie Brenner. It's one of a number of high profile movies in development at Mattel Films, who are riding high on the massive success of last year's Barbie. The planned Mattel film slate includes Daniel Kaluuya's Barney, the Jennifer Lopez and Anthony Ramos animated Bob the Builder, Lil Yachty's heist thriller Uno, and Vin Diesel's Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots.

Nosferatu Star Bill Skarsgård Teases His Vampire as "Gross" and "Sexualized" https://comicbook.com/horror/news/nosferatu-bill-skarsgard-tease-reaction-reboot-remake-vampire/ Wed, 29 May 2024 17:41:00 +0000 Patrick Cavanaugh e7f8cb31-f451-4bb5-a98d-383aa7720a61

When it comes to cinematic vampires, the nature of being a blood-sucker often means there's lots of seduction from attractive figures, though Count Orlok in 1922's Nosferatu marked a much more ghastly take on the monster. In the upcoming remake of Nosferatu from director Robert Eggers, Bill Skarsg?rd promises that his version of the character will be both "gross" and also bring sexuality to the story. Given that fans have only seen glimpses of the supporting characters in the film, these comments from the performer are sure to spark excitement and curiosity about his role. Nosferatu is set to hit theaters on December 25th.

"He's gross," Skarsg?rd confirmed to Esquire of his take on the character. "But it is very sexualized. It's playing with a sexual fetish about the power of the monster and what that appeal has to you. Hopefully you'll get a little bit attracted by it and disgusted by your attraction at the same time."

He added, "I do not think people are gonna recognize me in it."

Not only will the character visually be a darker take on a vampire than many audiences are used to, but the actor expressed that channeling such a nefarious figure took an emotional toll on him.

"It took its toll," the actor expressed. "It was like conjuring pure evil. It took a while for me to shake off the demon that had been conjured inside of me."

Eggers himself echoed that intensity, confessing, "I remember early on, him trying to talk to me about what it meant to be a dead sorcerer -- and I'm into some pretty heavy occult sh-t, but he was on a different level ... I was like, 'This sounds accurate, but I don't know how to converse about this with any fluidity.'"

Robert Eggers' Nosferatu is a gothic tale of obsession between a haunted young woman and the terrifying vampire infatuated with her, causing untold horror in its wake. The movie stars Bill Skarsg?rd, Nicholas Hoult, Lily-Rose Depp, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Emma Corrin, Ralph Ineson, Simon McBurney, and Willem Dafoe.

While the film is set to hit theaters on December 25th, there's no word on when audiences will get an official trailer.

Knives Out 3 Adds Scandal Star Kerry Washington https://comicbook.com/movies/news/knives-out-3-casts-kerry-washington-scandal-netflix/ Wed, 29 May 2024 16:40:00 +0000 Cameron Bonomolo 1b40af62-401e-4dc0-9829-a26e6aed17a5

Kerry Washington has another scandal on her hands.

The Emmy-winning Scandal star is joining the cast of Netflix's Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, the third Benoit Blanc murder-mystery from writer-director Rian Johnson. Washington's character is being kept under wraps, but the Little Fires Everywhere and Unprisoned actress is part of a still-growing cast that includes Daniel Craig as Detective Blanc and Josh O'Connor (Challengers), Cailee Spaeny (Civil War), and Andrew Scott (All of Us Strangers) in mystery roles. Deadline first reported Washington's involvement.

Washington is best known for playing D.C. fixer Olivia Pope on seven seasons of the ABC drama Scandal. She's become a marquee name at Netflix: Washington recently starred in and executive produced an adaptation of her Broadway play, American Son, as a Netflix television event, and she starred in the Netflix Original movies The Prom and The School for Good and Evil. Her next project, the Tyler Perry-directed period drama Six Triple Eight, is also in the works at the streamer.

Filming on the recently-titled Knives Out 3 is set to begin in June. The Wake Up Dead Man title is "a little hint of where [the movie is] going," Johnson shared when announcing the title on social media. Plot details are TBA, but Blanc called Dead Man his "most dangerous case yet" in a Craig-narrated title reveal video.

"I love everything about whodunnits, but one of the things I love most is how malleable the genre is. There's a whole tonal spectrum from Carr to Christie," Johnson wrote on X/Twitter, referring to famed detective novel writers John Dickson Carr and Agatha Christie, "and getting to explore that range is one of the most exciting things about making Benoit Blanc movies."

Captain Marvel Brie Larson Shares New Superhero Actor Advice https://comicbook.com/movies/news/captain-marvel-brie-larson-mcu-superhero-advice-actor/ Wed, 29 May 2024 15:50:00 +0000 Aaron Perine f347cda9-0f14-445f-aac2-ad6df303a1f8

Captain Marvel star Brie Larson shared some of her advice for new superhero actors. The Hollywood Reporter's drama actress roundtable featured the Marvel star and she got asked about her MCU experience. When asked about being a "superhero mentor" she singled out training and costume bathroom logistics as two popular pieces of advice for actors entering the superhero world. Funnily enough, Larson's one of the first people to reach out when newcomers are looking for advice. She's been in the MCU for a minute now, and people are surprised by the amount of training they have to do to get "superhero fit." Along with that, you're going to need a bathroom plan, so go ahead and start thinking about that from the moment you get into the suit.

"Always. I'm the first person to email everybody because it's very specific and very strange," Larson began. "People are like, 'I don't know how to do this.' Yeah, no one does. Why would you? I'll say, 'Train, because you'll want to be as prepared in your body as you possibly can because it only gets harder as the job goes on. And really understand how to be able to go to the bathroom in your suit.' The first Captain Marvel, it was a 45-minute thing to get me in and out of that costume."

It's hard to believe so many years have passed since Brie Larson's introduction to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. She's appeared in Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, The Marvels and Captain Marvel. Entertainment Tonight previously spoke to the Carol Danvers actress about her journey through the MCU. In essence, there's still more for Captain Marvel to do, but fans have already seen a lot of growth from the character since her early moments in the franchise.

"I think there is still so much inside of Carol," Larson reflected. "I feel like getting to be on this team just cracked her open in a way that she hadn't been and I really loved that for her."

"I just loved her letting the shoulders drop a little bit, and not need to feel like all the responsibility was on her," Larson added. "So I think that there is just so much more to go... She is just a great character to continue to grow with. It's like, as I am growing she is growing."

In The Marvels, which arrived in theaters on November 10th, Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel (Brie Larson) has reclaimed her identity from the tyrannical Kree and taken revenge on the Supreme Intelligence. But unintended consequences see Carol shouldering the burden of a destabilized universe. When her duties send her to an anomalous wormhole linked to a Kree revolutionary, her powers become entangled with that of Jersey City super-fan, Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani) aka Ms. Marvel, and Carol's estranged niece, now S.A.B.E.R. astronaut Captain Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris). Together, this unlikely trio must team-up and learn to work in concert to save the universe as "The Marvels."

The Marvels will also see the franchise returns of Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Saagar Shaikh as Aamir Khan, Zenobia Shroff as Muneeba Khan, and Mohan Kapur as Yusuf Khan. New cast members include Zawe Ashton, Park Seo-joon, and Shamier Anderson. Produced by Marvel Studios, The Marvels is directed by Nia DaCosta with a script from DaCosta, Megan McDonnell, and Elissa Karasik.

Blue Period Live-Action Movie Trailer Released https://comicbook.com/anime/news/blue-period-live-action-movie-trailer/ Wed, 29 May 2024 15:09:00 +0000 Megan Peters 056bd96c-fc81-484b-9463-370a7cb80345

It looks like Blue Period is ready to tackle its next era. Not long ago, the hit manga made waves on screen as its anime went live, and now a new adaptation is coming for Blue Period. A live-action film is on the horizon, and the project just posted its first trailer.

As you can see below, the first trailer for Blue Period is nothing short of gorgeous. The film, which stars Gordon Maeda, brings the world of fine arts to life. Slated for an August premiere, Blue Period has a big responsibility on hand as it must realize Tsubasa Yamaguchi's vision in real life. But given what we can see in this trailer, well - Blue Period is off to a good start.

If you are not familiar with Blue Period, you should know the Kodansha title began back in June 2017 by Yamaguchi. The ongoing series has become a fave with readers as its coming-of-age tale deals with everything from mental health to gender identity. Back in October 2021, Blue Period found a new audience when it was given a TV anime by Seven Arcs. Now, the introspective series is ready to tackle the big screen. Its live-action adaptation will open Blue Period to yet another audience. So for those who want more info on Blue Period, you can read its official synopsis below:

"Yatora is the perfect high school student, with good grades and lots of friends. It's an effortless performance, and, ultimately... a dull one. But he wanders into the art room one day, and a lone painting captures his eye, awakening him to a kind of beauty he never knew. Compelled and consumed, he dives in headfirst--and he's about to learn how savage and unforgiving art can be..."

Hugh Jackman Opens Up About Wolverine Retirement: "It Was Hurting" https://comicbook.com/movies/news/deadpool-wolverine-hugh-jackman-retirement-story-hurting-mcu-logan/ Wed, 29 May 2024 14:21:00 +0000 Aaron Perine c54481bf-92b9-4101-97d0-ccdc2bca7b10

Deadpool & Wolverine's Hugh Jackman opened up about his retirement from the role of Wolverine. Apparently, playing the X-Men favorite had his body hurting every day back near Logan. People Magazine had Jackman and his buddy Ryan Reynolds interview each other ahead of the MCU blockbuster. It's a bit of a bro-fest, but through the writing, their special friendship really comes through. Yes, Reynolds always wanted Jackman to come back to the role. But, the time away gave his body some time to adjust and reinvigorated his love for Wolverine. So, once the star arrived on the set of Deadpool & Wolverine, he was ready to sink his claws into the task at hand. Check out how Jackman described that process right here.

"I had got to the point probably 10 years ago I was like, I'm not enjoying it. It was hurting. It was tough," Jackman recalled. "But I've had a break, and I've been doing a lot of dance. I've been doing stage shows. And so when I came back to it, it was really fun."

Throughout the press tour for Deadpool & Wolverine, Jackman has been adamant that he was done playing Logan. However, with a friend like Reynolds, he probably wasn't going to be down forever. Rotten Tomatoes' Jacqueline Cooley spoke to the duo and asked about putting the tights on for the first time. Jackman is very candid about his thought process after 2017's Logan. He really thought he was done. But, when a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity rolls around, it's pretty hard to say no. Especially, when the person driving that particular bus is your best friend.

"I was on my way - I was just driving - and literally just like a bolt of lightning came this knowing, deep in my gut, that I wanted to do this film with Ryan... for Deadpool and Wolverine to come together. And Jacqueline, I swear to you, when I said I was done I really thought I was done," Jackman shared. "But, in the back of my head, ever since I saw Deadpool 1, I was like 'Those two characters together...' I knew it: I knew the fans wanted it. Ever since I put on the claws fans have talked about these two, so that had always been there, but I just knew."

Rebel Moon - Part Two: Director's Cut Rating Teases "Strong Bloody Violence and Gore Throughout" https://comicbook.com/movies/news/rebel-moon-part-two-directors-cut-rating-teases-strong-bloody-violence-and-gore-throughout/ Wed, 29 May 2024 14:00:00 +0000 Russ Burlingame df7b0ea0-8247-4ff2-a3d3-77822444f41a

The upcoming, director's cut of Rebel Moon Part Two: The Scargiver has been rated R. According to the Motion Picture Association, the rating is the result of "strong bloody violence and gore throughout, strong sexuality, nudity and some language," suggesting that the "Snyder Cut" of the movie will be a little less Star Wars and a little more 300. The universe of Rebel Moon has been a constant presence on Netflix's new release wall for the last few months, and that's going to remain the case for a while, as both installments in the series get extended director's cuts. Snyder's original idea was to release both films as close together as humanly possible, with the filmmaker taking the Lord of the Rings philosophy to an extreme and conceiving them as two parts of the same one movie, which could come out as close together as a single month.

The director's cut was a no-brainer, since Snyder has been making those for virtually every movie going back to 2004's Dawn of the Dead. Snyder's cut of Justice League ran about four hours long, and scored about 25 points higher on Rotten Tomatoes than the movie's theatrical cut.

Following the end of the first part of Rebel Moon, The Scargiver sets up Kora for an epic rematch with the recently-resurrected Admiral Atticus Noble. Brought back by arcane tech, Noble's father Regent Balisarius set him on a quest to bring Kora back to The Imperium at all costs.

Here's the official synopsis for the sequel:

Rebel Moon - Part Two: The Scargiver continues the epic saga of Kora and the surviving warriors as they prepare to sacrifice everything, fighting alongside the brave people of Veldt, to defend a once peaceful village, a newfound homeland for those who have lost their own in the fight against the Motherworld. On the eve of their battle the warriors must face the truths of their own pasts, each revealing why they fight. As the full force of the Realm bears down on the burgeoning rebellion, unbreakable bonds are forged, heroes emerge, and legends are made.

Rebel Moon stars Sofia Boutella, Ray Fisher, Charlie Hunnam, Djimon Hounsou, Jena Malone, AnthonyHopkins, Ed Skrein, and more. It's Snyder's next big franchise following the success of his original zombie project Army of the Dead, also at Netflix.

Rebel Moon - Part Two: The Scargiver will debut on Netflix on April 19.
