Nearly two years after they were tested at just one location in California, the Big Cheez-it Tostada and Big Cheez-It Crunchwrap Supreme are rolling out to Taco Bell menus nationwide. On Thursday, Taco Bell announced that both items are rolling out nationwide and fans will be able to get them in restaurant starting June 6th for a limited time. Taco Bell Rewards Members get exclusive access starting May 30th, via the Taco Bell app.

"This collaboration isn't just about bringing together two iconic brands; it's about taking the spirit of fan innovation to create something truly larger than life," Taco Bell chief innovation officer Liz Matthews said. "We're thrilled to launch this exciting partnership nationwide and offer fans a whole new way to experience the classic cheesy and crunchy flavors they love from Taco Bell and Cheez-It."

Both the Big Cheez-It Tostada and Big Cheez-It Crunchwrap Supreme feature an extra-large Cheez-It cracker -- one that is 16 times larger than a normal Cheez-It. The tostada layers ground beef, reduced fat sour cream, tomatoes, lettuce, and cheddar cheese on the giant Cheez-It and has a price of $3.99. The Big Cheez-It Crunchwrap Supreme uses the Cheez-It to replace the tostada portion of the normal Crunchwrap and features the same ingredients as the tostada, just with the addition of nacho cheese instead of shredded cheese. It costs $5.49. Customers can also get the Big Cheez-It Box, which includes the Big Cheez-It Crunchwrap Supreme, a five-layer burrito, nacho fries, and a medium drink for $8.99.

"There are few things that everyone can agree on ... but the iconic flavors from Taco Bell menu items and Cheez-It snacks appeal to all," Matthews offered in a press release back in 2022. "We're thrilled about this new concept with Cheez-It, which gives our fans the chance to experience the real cheese and crunch they love from both of our brands in a whole new way."

Star Wars: Dafne Keen Reveals Her Personal Journey Inspired The Acolyte Character https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/star-wars-dafne-keen-journey-the-acolyte-character-interview-spoilers/ Fri, 31 May 2024 04:57:00 +0000 Jenna Anderson 5c23d8e2-36ba-44d8-acf4-4ef571bc53fb

Star Wars: The Acolyte heads to Disney+ soon, telling a character-driven story that will surely stand out in the Star Wars galaxy. The Acolyte's ensemble cast of characters includes a young alien Jedi named Jecki Lon, played by Logan and His Dark Materials star Dafne Keen. While speaking to ComicBook about Star Wars: The Acolyte, Keen made a connection between Jecki's journey and her own path as a young actor.

"I think I did bring a bit of my own experience into it," Keen explained in our interview, which you can check out above. "Being someone who has been working for over ten years at 19, [it] throws you in at the deep end and forces you to kind of be an adult from a very young age. And I think Jecki has that in her, and sort of this adultness that's not that common in an 18 year old, which is how old Jackie is. So there was a lot of that, and a lot of my perfectionism and her perfectionism, and just how hard-working I think we are, and also how hard on ourselves we are, and competitive. So, a lot of me and her was very similar, which was pretty easy to access."

When Is Star Wars: The Acolyte Set?

Star Wars: The Acolyte is set at the very tail end of the High Republic era, decades prior to the events of the Prequel and Original trilogies. The Acolyte marks the first time that the time period has been portrayed in live-action, after it has already been brought to life in novels, comics, and in the animated series Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures.

"We're taking a look at the political and personal and spiritual things that came up in a time period that we don't know much about," Headland explained in a previous interview. "My question when watching The Phantom Menace was always like, 'Well, how did things get to this point?' How did we get to a point where a Sith lord can infiltrate the Senate and none of the Jedi pick up on it? Like, what went wrong? What are the scenarios that led us to this moment?'"

"We actually use the term the Renaissance, or the Age of Enlightenment," Headland added. "The Jedi uniforms are gold and white, and it's almost like they would never get dirty. They would never be out and about," Headland says. "The idea is that they could have these types of uniforms because that's how little they're getting into skirmishes."

What Is Star Wars: The Acolyte About?

In Star Wars: The Acolyte, an investigation into a shocking crime spree pits a respected Jedi Master (Lee Jung-jae) against a dangerous warrior from his past (Amandla Stenberg). As more clues emerge, they travel down a dark path where sinister forces reveal all is not what it seems.

Star Wars: The Acolyte stars Amandla Stenberg, Lee Jung-jae, Manny Jacinto, Dafne Keen, Charlie Barnett, Jodie Turner- Smith, Rebecca Henderson, Dean-Charles Chapman, Joonas Suotamo, and Carrie-Anne Moss. Leslye Headland created the series, based on Star Wars by George Lucas, and serves as an executive producer along with Kathleen Kennedy, Simon Emanuel, Jeff F. King and Jason Micallef. Charmaine DeGrate? and Kor Adana are the co-executive producers. Rayne Roberts, Damian Anderson, Eileen Shim and Rob Bredow are the producers.

The first two episodes of Star Wars: The Acolyte will debut exclusively on Disney+ on June 4th at 6pm PST. If you haven't checked out Disney+ yet and you want to give it a go, you can do that here.

We're still a month and a half away from the big screen debut of Universal's Twisters, but fans are already getting excited about the film's jam-packed soundtrack. Following in the footsteps of the original Twister, this new blockbuster is getting a loaded album to go along with it. Twisters: The Album will be released alongside the film on July 19th, and it is set to have a whopping 29 songs included.

Twisters: The Album is already available for pre-order on digital formats, CD, and multiple vinyl pressings. So far, three tracks from the soundtrack are already available to listen to and purchase. Luke Combs' "Ain't No Love in Oklahoma" is the big single from the album and was featured in the Twisters trailer. That was the first song to be released and it was given a Twisters-inspired music video, featuring some footage from the film.

Since that song's release, Atlantic Records and Universal Pictures have also unveiled "Hell or High Water" by Bailey Zimmerman and "Never Left Me" by Megan Moroney.

Twisters is set to hit theaters on July 19, 2024. The film stars Daisy Edgar-Jones, Glen Powell, Katy O'Brian, Kiernan Shipka, Maura Tierney, Anthony Ramos, Sasha Lane, Brandon Perea, and new Superman star David Corenswet.

Blade: What Does Mahershala Ali's Jurassic World Casting Mean for MCU Reboot? https://comicbook.com/movies/news/blade-mahershala-ali-jurassic-world-casting-mcu-reboot/ Fri, 31 May 2024 03:30:00 +0000 Jenna Anderson 2559712d-14be-44ad-a3a8-1aef47ce9ff9

The Marvel Cinematic Universe's Multiverse Saga has been ebbing and flowing in some fascinating ways over the years, telling a wide variety of stories across movies, Disney+ television shows, and more. One project on the franchise's slate -- which actually predated the establishing of the Multiverse Saga itself -- is Blade, a new movie centered around the titular vampire-hunting Daywalker. Oscar winner Mahershala Ali has been attached to portray Eric Brooks / Blade since San Diego Comic-Con in 2019, ultimately making his MCU debut with an uncredited voice cameo in 2021's Eternals movie.

In the years since the Blade solo film was first announced, the film has held, and subsequently lost, multiple writers, ensemble cast members, and release dates. At the time of this writing, Blade is committed to debut in theaters in November of 2025, but updates surrounding the film's production have been few and far between. With Ali now in talks to star in Universal's upcoming Jurassic World movie, which would begin production in mid-June for a July 2025 release, some have begun to speculate about what that means for Blade's newest release date. Could Blade still debut in the fall of 2025, or is another date change on the horizon?

Thanks to last year's writers' and actors' strike, the most recent updates surrounding Blade's development and pre-production have been few and far between. Countless reports have hinted at the various creative overhauls have entailed, ranging from various period pieces, to lower budget fare, to a female-led ensemble that would have Blade himself be a supporting character. Ali was quoted in December of 2023 saying that he's "encouraged" by the most recent direction the movie is heading in, but newer details have been scarce. The most recent concrete piece of information came from Aaron Pierre, who joined the project in 2022, confirming in March of this year that he is no longer attached amid those creative evolutions. Other previously-reported cast members, including Mia Goth, Milan Ray, and Delroy Lindo, have also become something of a Schrodinger's box as well. (The fact that Lindo has also signed on to Ryan Coogler and Michael B. Jordan's untitled vampire movie at Warner Bros., which has been fast-tracked for an early 2025 debut amid Blade's delays, hasn't helped either.)

In a hypothetical scenario where some combination of Ali, Goth, Ray, and Lindo are all still attached to Blade, there is still the question of when the production would commence. If Ali is signed on for Jurassic World 4, that mid-June production could feasibly last a few months, meaning he might not be available for Blade until the fall of 2024. That would, at best, give the movie a little over a year to go from pre-production to release -- a feat that certainly isn't impossible, but could certainly exacerbate previous complaints about Marvel Studios having rushed visual effects and shorter windows for marketing campaigns. The studio's highly-anticipated The Fantastic Four reboot could also be running into a similar logistical problem, which has led some to wonder if it will ultimately take Blade's current fall 2025 slot.

Beyond that, there's no telling what the future might hold for Blade. Maybe the film will ultimately land Marvel's next theatrical release date in early 2026, if the company ends up rearranging its slate to better map out its next two Avengers movies. Some have even begun to theorize that Blade is among the projects secretly cancelled by Disney CEO Bob Iger, who hinted earlier this year that some of those "tough calls" have already been made. Hopefully, we won't have to wait too long to find out the movie's fate.

As mentioned above, Blade is currently scheduled to be released on November 7, 2025.

Grey's Anatomy Season 20 Finale Leaves Grey Sloan Doctors' Fates in Jeopardy https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/greys-anatomy-season-20-finale-leaves-grey-sloan-doctors-fates-in-jeopardy/ Fri, 31 May 2024 03:21:00 +0000 Nicole Drum a8b3d908-dee6-4279-89f7-2ab2bc193fc4

Grey's Anatomy aired its Season 20 finale Thursday night on ABC and while the long-running series is known for its cliffhanger season finales, this week's "Burn It Down" left a lot of things up in the air when it came to the fates of most of Grey Sloan's doctors -- and it could have major impact on the show's landscape in Season 21.

Warning: Spoilers for the Season 20 finale of Grey's Anatomy beyond this point. Read on only if you want to know.

A lot went down in the Season 20 finale as Grey Sloan dealt with an influx of patients from a wildfire raging just outside Seattle. Going into the episode, Teddy (Kim Raver) had already been fired by Catherine (Debbie Allen) for secretly funding Meredith's (Ellen Pompeo) Alzheimer's research and it turns out that wouldn't be the only firing by the episode's end. When Meredith shows up at Grey Sloan to present to Catherine her and Amelia's (Caterina Scorsone) research, instead of it being enough to save Teddy's job, Catherine demands that they turn the research over to another doctor claiming it's property of the Fox Foundation -- or they will both be fired.

By the end of the episode, Meredith and Amelia decided that the right thing to do would be to just publish the research in defiance of Catherine and, as a result, both they and Teddy found themselves no longer with hospital access. And they weren't alone. Owen (Kevin McKidd) found himself out of a job as well after standing up to Catherine to allow Teddy in the operating room during a dire surgeon shortage amid the fire crisis. The episode ended with the doctors' professional fates in the balance, as well as those of the interns and potentially even Miranda (Chandra Wilson) who also stood up to Catherine when it came to the fate of one of the interns.

Cast Changes Are Ahead for Season 21 of Grey's Anatomy

The cliffhanger regarding the staff situation at Grey Sloan leaves things an interesting place for Season 21. It was previously announced that both Jake Borelli, who plays Dr. Levi Schmitt, and Midori Francis (who plays Dr. Mika Yasuda) are both exiting the series, though are expected to return for a few episodes of Season 21 to wrap up their storylines. It was also previously reported that contracts for several other actors were set to expire at the end of Season 20 -- including Wilson, McKidd, Raver, Scorsone, Camilla Luddington, and James Pickens Jr.

Grey's Anatomy Has Been Renewed For Season 21.

Back in April, ABC renewed Grey's Anatomy for Season 21, continuing the drama's run as the longest running primetime medical drama in television history as well as the longest running primetime series in ABC history. The series first debuted in 2005.

"The loyalty and love of Grey's Anatomy fans has propelled us into a history 21st season, and I could not be more grateful," series creator and executive producer Shonda Rhimes said at the time. "Meg Marinis' storytelling is a gift that continues to keep the show vibrant, compelling and alive, and I can't wait to see what she has in store for next season."

Danny Huston Talks the Challenge of Making The Crow, Naked Gun Remakes https://comicbook.com/movies/news/danny-huston-remaking-movies-the-crow-naked-gun/ Fri, 31 May 2024 03:17:00 +0000 Charlie Ridgely a6363e57-fa68-4bb0-8a05-c5b9c4ae204c

Reboots of popular films from years past have become an integral part of the DNA of the current studio system. Anything that can grab nostalgia and turn something into IP is seen as both viable and valuable, so a ton of beloved films and TV shows are getting modern makeovers. Actor Danny Huston is actually set to star in two of these reboots, but they couldn't be more different.

Huston stars as the villain in the upcoming reboot of The Crow, which hits theaters later this year. In 2025, he'll appear in the reboot of The Naked Gun, which is gearing up for production. While speaking to ComicBook about The Dead Don't Hurt, his new movie hitting theaters on May 31st, Huston opened up about the challenges that come with remaking a popular title.

"What I find challenging is, in a way, the idea of remaking something that's already good," Huston told us. "It's like you kind of don't want to touch it. You want to leave it alone. I remember my father saying, 'Why are we remaking good movies? We should be remaking the bad ones and make them good.' So that's where you're cautious. And yet you have to kind of reinvent it. You can't imitate it. But you're inspired by it and that's the tough balance to get."

The Crow, opening in August, pits Huston against Bill Skarsg?rd, who takes over the character made famous by the late Brandon Lee. The film also stars FKA Twigs. You can check out the official synopsis for The Crow below!

"Soulmates Eric Draven (Skarsg?rd) and Shelly Webster (FKA twigs) are brutally murdered when the demons of her dark past catch up with them. Given the chance to save his true love by sacrificing himself, Eric sets out to seek merciless revenge on their killers, traversing the worlds of the living and the dead to put the wrong things right."

The Naked Gun, set to hit theaters next July, is based on the beloved action comedy series that starred Leslie Nielsen. Liam Neeson stars in director Akiva Schaffer's take on the property, leading an all star cast that also includes Paul Walter Hauser, Kevin Durand, Pamela Anderson, Busta Rhymes, and current WWE Champion Cody Rhodes.

Destiny 2 Announces Dungeons & Dragons Crossover https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/destiny-2-announces-dungeons-dragons-crossover/ Fri, 31 May 2024 01:54:00 +0000 Ricky Frech 3e19d97f-6edf-469a-923b-6f51bcd40422

Over the last several months, the developers at Bungie have shown more than a passing interest in adding new crossovers to Destiny 2. Players have seen everything from The Witcher to Ghostbusters content in their shooter. The move to move to a Fortnite approach to crossovers has been fun to see, and it's continuing with the latest reveal. Bungie revealed that a new Dungeons and Dragons crossover is coming to Destiny 2. The collaboration comes to the game next week alongside the new The Final Shape expansion. It's safe to say that next week will be an exciting time for Destiny 2 fans.

Destiny 2 x Dungeons and Dragons Crossover

As you can see in the trailer above, the upcoming Destiny 2 x Dungeons and Dragons crossover features "Faer?n-inspired armor ornaments for every class." That means Warlocks are getting the Flayer's Dominion set, Titans can pick up the Apex Draconic set, and Hunters can get the Spectral Displacer set. Of the three, the Flayer's set is best-looking in our eyes, though you can't go wrong with any of them.

On top of the character skins, players can pick up the Adventurer's Pack bundle. It includes a Queen of Dragons ship, the Owlbear Chariot Sparrow, and the Eye Tyrant Ghost shell. Again, our favorite amongst these crossover items is the Owlbear Chariot, but all three would be great additions to any cosmetic lineup for Dungeons and Dragons fans, making them a great addition to The Final Shape.

Destiny 2: The Final Shape Release Date

As mentioned, Destiny 2: The Final Shape launches next week. To be specific, the new DLC comes to PlayStation, Xbox, and PC platforms on June 4th. The Final Shape is meant to be the end of Destiny 2's first major story saga. The Light and Darkness saga has been happening for seven years, making this a major milestone for Bungie. Alongside the saga finale, the new expansion features new super abilities for each subclass and the brand-new Prismatic subclass. Unlike previous expansions, Year 7 will not be divided into four seasonal content updates. Instead, Bungie is splitting it into three acts: Echoes, Revenant, and Heresay. Echoes will kick off the week after the expansion launches and the next two episodes will tentatively follow in October 2024 and February 2025.

Destiny 2 is available now on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC platforms.

The Vince Staples Show Renewed for Season 2 at Netflix https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/the-vince-staples-show-renewed-season-2-netflix/ Fri, 31 May 2024 01:47:00 +0000 Jenna Anderson 700bce57-5f34-4234-955c-729f6041c1cd

A recent Netflix hit is now returning for more episodes. On Thursday, Netflix confirmed that The Vince Staples Show has officially been renewed for a second season. The five-episode first season of The Vince Staples Show arrived on Netflix in February, and quickly found a following among fans of the real-life musician and rapper Staples.

"The Vince Staples Show is back!" Staples said in a statement. "The people have spoken and the most riveting, captivating, and polarizing show on Netflix is returning for Season 2. Get ready for hijinks that only a mother can love. Thank you, Netflix!"

"There are 365 days in a year, so we're able to have 365 episodes of this thing because they're all based on what it's like to just exist day-to-day," Staples continued. "Next for Vince is literally anything because anything could happen at any moment, that's just how life works."

What Is The Vince Staples Show About?

Created by Staples and executive produced by Kenya Barris, The Vince Staples Show is often funny, sometimes emotional, and always thought-provoking. Each story is a slice-of-life tale told through a satirical lens, set in a fictional version of Long Beach, California.

Executive producers for The Vince Staples Show are Vince Staples, Kenya Barris for Khalabo Ink Society, Ian Edelman, Maurice Williams, Corey Smyth and Calmatic. Edelman and Williams are co-showrunners of the The Vince Staples Show, reuniting them with Barris, as the three also executive produced Kid Cudi's animated Netflix project, Entergalactic. Additionally, Calmatic will direct the first two episodes of The Vince Staples Show.

Who Is in the Cast of The Vince Staples Show?

In addition to Staples, the cast of The Vince Staples Show includes Andrea Ellsworth, Watts Homie Quan, Vanessa Bell Calloway, and Tiberius Byrd.

"I'm grateful," Staples previously told Rolling Stone about the series' success. "I got to do something that isn't really done on that network, or just done in general, with trying to break format and conventional comedy. I'm just trying some new things. So, I'm very happy that people embraced it, and we'll see how they feel about it moving forward. We're still trying to see what's going to happen with that. But, looking forward to other opportunities in the medium."

Season 2 of The Vince Staples Show does not currently have a release date.

Welcome to Derry: Bill Skarsgård Reprising Pennywise Role in It Prequel Series https://comicbook.com/movies/news/welcome-to-derry-bill-skarsgard-reprising-pennywise-role-in-it-prequel-series/ Fri, 31 May 2024 01:32:00 +0000 Haley Miller fe6ff09f-b820-497e-8557-5aa666732f31

Stephen King's horror novel It is one of his most beloved titles that has transcended the world of pop culture. In the 1990s a three-part miniseries introduced fans to the very first live-action Pennywise played by the iconic Tim Curry but it wouldn't be for another 27 years that an actual full fledged adaption would be released. 2017's It directed by Andr?s Muschietti starred Bill Skarsg?rd as the titular clown who terrorizes the fictional town of Derry, Maine. It grossed over $700 million at the worldwide box office, making it the highest-grossing King project by a wide margin. Although It Chapter Two wasn't without its problems, it still pulled impressive numbers against the $79 million budget bringing the combined total to over $1.17 billion.

Three years after the release of It Chapter Two, reports indicated that Max would be turning the horror franchise into a prequel series. Nearly a full year later, the series was officially greenlit and has been in active development ever since. Welcome to Derry will star the previously announced Madeleine Stowe, Stephen Rider Taylour Paige, Jovan Adepo, Chris Chalk, and James Remar. As announced by Deadline, Skarsg?rd will reprise his role as the iconic clown. Skarsg?rd will reunite with Andy and Barbara Muschietti, the minds behind both It films. Additionally, Jason Fuchs and Brad Caleb Kane serve as co-showrunners of Welcome to Derry.

Skarsg?rd continues his venture into the world of horror with projects like 2022's Barbarian and the upcoming Nosferatu adaption starring Willem Dafoe, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Lily Rose-Depp and Nicholas Hoult. Skarsg?rd can next be seen in The Crow reimagining, currently set for release in August. Based on the cult classic 1994 film directed by Alex Proyas, the original starred Brandon Lee as Eric Draven who was tragically killed during production.

"As teenagers, we took turns reading chapters of Stephen King's It until the thick paperback fell to pieces," the Muschiettis revealed in a statement back in 2023. "It is an epic story that contains multitudes, far beyond what we could explore in our It movies. We can't wait to share the depths of Steve's novel, in all its heart, humor, humanity, and horror."

"I'm excited that the story of Derry, Maine's most haunted city, is continuing, and I'm glad Andy Muschietti is going to be overseeing the frightening festivities, along with a brain trust including his talented sister, Barbara," King added. "Red balloons all around!"

Star Wars: The Acolyte: Charlie Barnett Reveals Surprise Origin of His Character's Name https://comicbook.com/starwars/news/star-wars-the-acolyte-charlie-barnett-reveals-surprise-origin-of-his-characters-name/ Fri, 31 May 2024 01:09:00 +0000 Jamie Jirak e46b9cf1-3557-4671-933f-60f53b3b1438

Star Wars: The Acolyte is debuting on Disney+ next week, and the new series features an exciting line-up of actors. The new Star Wars series stars Amandla Stenberg, Lee Jung-jae, Manny Jacinto, Dafne Keen, Charlie Barnett, Jodie Turner-Smith, Rebecca Henderson, Dean-Charles Chapman, Joonas Suotamo, and Carrie-Anne Moss. ComicBook recently had the chance to chat with some of the show's cast, including Barnett, who talked about the origin of his Jedi character's name, Yord Fandar. Turns out, series creator Leslye Headland actually got the name from somewhere pretty fun...

"Lowkey, I just heard the story from Leslye and I don't know if she's going to beat me in the butt for saying it. But apparently, she is in a gaming group online and one of - I can't remember what game they play - but I think it's a live-action role-playing game," Barnett explained.

"The friends invented a character named Yord Fandar on the game, and she stole the name and they didn't know basically until they read the first couple scripts and they're like, 'Hey, that's our guy,' and she was like, 'Trust me, he is very Yord.' So I think I have to give credit to them. But it is the fit for his humanity... or lack of humanity," he added with a smile.

You can watch our interview with Barnett at the top of the page.

Charlie Barnett Teases Yord Fandar:

During Star Wars Celebration in London last year, Barnett had a chat with Collider and teased his character, and talked more about working with Headland.

"I am a Jedi Knight, and I've got some really cool hair. I can tell you that." Barnett joked without revealing much else about his Star Wars role. "Leslye is an incredible writer, first and foremost, and the entire team. She's a playwright so she is invested in the story. I think what's most exciting for me, and exciting about working on this, is that through the language, through the development of these characters, you realize that bad and good is at the eyes of the beholder. You know, things are so multilayered and complicated, and it takes a really talented person to write a person that you can see from all of those angles."

"It's a comment on policing, honestly, in my mind, which is why it's so exciting," he added. "We're at a point where we're at our highest, and power can be a difficult thing."

What Is The Acolyte About?

Set during The High Republic, Star Wars: The Acolyte delivers an investigation into a mysterious string of crimes, which pits a Jedi master against his former apprentice in a race to uncover the truth. The more that the pair learn about the situation, the darker their journey becomes, as they confront things that darker than either of them could have imagined.

Star Wars: The Acolyte premieres on Disney+ on June 4th.

Pixar Chief Teases Finding Nemo 3: "The Ocean's a Big Place" https://comicbook.com/movies/news/pixar-chief-pete-docter-finding-nemo-3-sequel/ Fri, 31 May 2024 00:31:00 +0000 Cameron Bonomolo 66bdd273-83cf-4110-a7e5-3cfdd59be0c7

Finding Nemo just keeps swimming.

Pixar Animation Studios president Jim Morris told Bloomberg that the studio is considering new sequels for the Finding Nemo and Incredibles franchises, which have gone dormant since 2016's Finding Dory and 2018's Incredibles 2. According to Pete Docter, Pixar's chief creative officer who worked on 2003's Finding Nemo as part of its original brain trust, there's an ocean's worth of potential for another follow-up to the two films that grossed nearly $2 billion combined at the global box office.

"Where else have we not gone in the ocean? The ocean's a big place," Docter told Bloomberg. "I think there's a lot of opportunity there. We're kind of fishing around."

Following the company's recent restructuring, Pixar plans to make three movies every two years, alternating between sequels and spinoffs (the upcoming Inside Out 2 and Toy Story 5) and original ideas (Elio and an undisclosed project from Turning Red director Domee Shi).

Only two Pixar franchises have turned into trilogies -- Toy Story and Cars -- and with the former, it was a decade wait between the last two sequels. It took 13 years for Pixar to follow Finding Nemo with Finding Dory, which is, so far, director Andrew Stanton's last project at the studio. (Stanton was part of Pixar's first brain trust with Docter, Toy Story and Cars director John Lasseter, who has since exited the company, and the late animator and storyman Joe Ranft.)

"Most studios jump on doing a sequel as soon as they have a successful film, but our business model is a filmmaker model, and we don't make a sequel unless the director of the original film has an idea that they like and are willing to go forward on," Morris said in a 2016 interview. "A sequel in some regards is even harder [than the original] because you've got this defined world which, on the one hand, is a leg up, and on the other hand has expectations that you can't disappoint on."

Upcoming Pixar movies include Inside Out 2 (June 14), Elio (June 13, 2025), an untitled Pixar (March 6, 2026), and Toy Story 5 (June 19, 2026).

Zach Gilford Discusses Returning to Criminal Minds: Evolution for Season 17 https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/zach-gilford-discusses-returning-to-criminal-minds-evolution-for-season-17/ Fri, 31 May 2024 00:13:00 +0000 Haley Miller 1bfe9078-f19f-4cb1-aa16-4decfcea4bb2

At the end of Criminal Minds: Evolution last season, Elias Voit (Zach Gilford) was officially apprehended by the FBI for his involvement in killing Deputy Director Bailey. We learn that there's something known as "Gold Star" and that, apparently, Voit and Bailey are the only ones that know what it is. Gilford's storyline seemed to be pretty wrapped up last season, but it was eventually announced that he would be returning as the prolific killer.

Gilford joined the cast of Criminal Minds when it was officially moved to Paramount+ more than three years ago. He discussed retuning to the series in season 17 with Comicbook and what his conversations with showrunner Erica Messer looked like. Additionally, Gilford is set to make his directorial debut on this season of the show, something that's become commonplace for the cast every season.

Gilford explains that Messer and company "really" liked him, so they decided not to kill him and instead bring him back for more episodes. Though he wasn't consulted about what his storyline would look like this season, he was up for anything.

"Well, they were twofold. One was halfway through last season, she said to me, 'I don't know what we're gonna do next season, but we really like you. So we're not gonna kill you.' And I said, 'yeah!' And then when they actually asked me that, I said, 'of course, I'll do anything.' You know, she didn't really consult me about the storylines, but I was really excited. I was really happy with how it turned out and they planted the seed of this Gold Star thing at the end of last season. And, due to the network that Voit had created, he's got a lot of information that the BAU and any sort of law enforcement doesn't have. So it's kind of his ace in the hole or whatever the expression is. It's his Trump card and he can use it and he uses it to his advantage. And as always, he tries to manipulate everyone in every situation to kind of get what he wants and what he wants obviously is to get out of prison and get his family back. And, as we all know, he's smarter than everyone. So he works the system well."

This season will see the BAU trying to get to the bottom of Gold Star once and for all but, per the synopsis, "as the conspiracy unfolds, the Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU) is met with an unexpected complication when serial killer Elias Voit negotiates a deal that transfers him to federal custody in the BAU's own backyard. The team faces its biggest threat yet and cannot emerge unscathed from the mind-bending consequences."

Criminal Minds: Evolution season 17 premieres on June 6 on Paramount+.

The Watchers Star Dakota Fanning Teases Collaboration With Elle Fanning https://comicbook.com/horror/news/the-watchers-dakota-fanning-teases-collaboration-with-sister-elle-fanning/ Thu, 30 May 2024 23:54:00 +0000 Jamie Jirak 4652e3e5-6e22-416f-90b6-bc74caf7233a

The Watchers is heading to theaters next week, and the film is based on A. M. Shine's novel of the same name. The movie stars Dakota Fanning as an artist named Mina who "gets stranded in an expansive, untouched forest in western Ireland." Mina eventually finds shelter, but she "unknowingly becomes trapped alongside three strangers who are watched and stalked by mysterious creatures each night." Early in the film, Mina listens to a voicemail from her sister, and ComicBook recently admitted to Fanning that we initially thought the voicemail was a cameo from her real-life sister, Elle Fanning. This led to us wondering if the sisters plan to work together in the future.

"Oh, funny!" Fanning replied when we mentioned our mistake. "I'm wondering if people ... what they're going to think," she added. "We have definitely talked about it," she shared when asked about a collaboration with her sister. "We never acted together on screen. She's played me younger, but definitely you'll see it one day for sure. I feel confident saying that."

You can watch our interview with Fanning at the top of the page.

Dakota Fanning Talks Working With Ishana Night Shyamalan:

The Watchers marks the feature directorial debut of M. Night Shyamalan's daughter, Ishana Night Shyamalan. During ComicBook's chat with Fanning, she shared what it was like to work with a first-time feature director.

"Yeah, she's super, super excited. Always had a smile on her face, such a bright person and somebody that was clearly put on this earth to create," Fanning said of Shyamalan. "She's super creative, super collaborative, comes from a family of artists who love to make cool things, and so that's inspiring to be around."

"She wrote this and was directing it and had such a clear vision of what she wanted to do and you can't help but feel inspired to collaborate with someone like that," Fanning added.

In addition to Fanning, The Watchers stars Georgina Campbell (Barbarian, Suspicion), Oliver Finnegan (Creeped Out, Outlander), and Olwen Fouere (The Northman, The Tourist). Joining writer/director Shyamalan behind the camera are director of photography Eli Arenson (Lamb, Hospitality), production designer Ferdia Murphy (Lola, Finding You), editor Job ter Burg (Benedetta, Elle), and costume design by Frank Gallacher (Sebastian, Aftersun). The music is by Abel Korzeniowski (Till, The Nun). The film is produced by M. Night Shyamalan, Ashwin Rajan, and Nimitt Mankad. The executive producers are Jo Homewood and Stephen Dembitzer.

The Watchers lands in theaters on June 7th. Stay tuned for more from our interviews about the upcoming horror film.

Monster Hunter Wilds' State of Play Trailer Reveals New Gameplay Details https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/monster-hunter-wilds-state-of-play-trailer-gameplay-ps5-pc/ Thu, 30 May 2024 23:12:00 +0000 Ricky Frech 1d7ecfdd-0499-4541-a140-cc43540a7d8a

Today's PlayStation State of Play was filled with new trailers and announcements for upcoming games like Concord and Silent Hill 2. However, the trailer that likely stole the show for many was the new footage we saw from Monster Hunter Wilds. While the game isn't due out anytime soon, seeing it in action is sure to whet the appetite of fans who have been dying to see what the team at Capcom does with the massively popular franchise next. In this new Monster Hunter Wilds trailer, those fans got to see the game in action, while also getting a few story nuggets to keep their interest piqued.

Monster Hunter Wilds Gameplay Trailer

As you can see in the trailer above, this is much more cinematic gameplay than you'd expect from a deep dive. That said, it's not a full CGI trailer either. Instead, the team has pulled back the UI and given us a glance at what Monster Hunter Wilds looks like in motion. We see the player character fighting massive monsters in melee and ranged combat. There's even a section where they're fighting from the back of their mount. Long-time fans will note many of their favorite weapons showing up in this trailer because Wilds is bringing back all 14 iconic pieces of gear.

However, don't expect each armament to function exactly as it did in the past. Instead, the team is adding new actions for every weapon. You can actually see this in action with both the Great Sword and Heavy Bowgun, though the team will share more in-depth rundowns of each weapon in the future. We also got to learn about the new Focus Mode, which is a new way for players to slow the action down, making it more accessible to new players. Plus, there was a quick look at the new Hook Slinger, which you'll use to collect items from a distance.

The team shared a few story details as well. We know that Monster Hunter Wilds takes place in the Forbidden Lands, a massive area that the Guild has never explored. You play as a Hunter sent to help explore the untamed wilderness and will have your trusty Palico at your side. The trailer also introduced us to a few other support characters you'll get to know as you make your way through the Forbidden Lands.

Unfortunately, the new trailer did not reveal a release date. We know that Monster Hunter Wilds is set to launch at some point in 2025, but Capcom hasn't narrowed it down any further than that. When it does launch next year, fans will be able to pick it up on PlayStation 5 and PC.

Marvel Rivals PS5 Release Announced https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/marvel-rivals-ps5-release-beta-announced/ Thu, 30 May 2024 23:02:00 +0000 Logan Moore 7f4a4812-cab7-4167-8289-cd04f009b732

Update: NetEase has now revealed that Marvel Rivals will also be coming to Xbox Series X/S. The original story can be found below.

--

NetEase Games has announced that its new multiplayer game, Marvel Rivals, will be coming to PlayStation 5. Upon its first reveal earlier this year, NetEase said that Marvel Rivals would only be coming to PC initially. As expected, many across PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch platforms soon began making it known that they'd like to see the Marvel multiplayer game come to their own hardware of choice. Now, NetEase has made it known that it will be making good on those requests, but only for a single avenue.

Revealed during PlayStation's new State of Play event, Marvel Rivals was confirmed for PS5 platforms. NetEase shared that it would be holding a new Closed Beta for the game in a little over a month in July, although its full launch wasn't yet detailed. In addition, it was verified that a PS5-exclusive Scarlet Spider skin would be given to Spider-Man in-game. Details on how this would be unlockable weren't provided, though.

"Marvel Rivals is a Super Hero Team-Based PVP Shooter," says the game's official description. "Assemble an all-star Marvel squad, devise countless strategies by combining powers to form unique Team-Up skills and fight in destructible, ever-changing battlefields across the continually evolving Marvel universe! Choose from a vast array of fan-favorite and cult-classic Marvel Super Heroes and Super Villains from across the Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy, X-Men, and many more from across the Marvel Multiverse."

As mentioned, Marvel Rivals doesn't yet have a release date as NetEase is still in the beta phase for the title. Additionally, versions of the game for Xbox and Nintendo Switch have yet to be announced in any capacity. Given that a PS5 edition is now known to be happening, it will surely only strengthen calls for the title to come to other hardware. Whether or not this ends up happening remains to be seen, but we should start to learn a whole lot more about Marvel Rivals and its launch from NetEase Games as 2024 continues to progress.

National Treasure 3: Original Director Offers Script Update, Teases Nicolas Cage and Original Cast Returning https://comicbook.com/movies/news/national-treasure-3-original-director-offers-script-update-teases-nicolas-cage-and-original-cast-returning/ Thu, 30 May 2024 23:01:00 +0000 Jamie Jirak 64f2a5d2-a590-478c-8bfc-3a4fa25d9892

Nicolas Cage first played Benjamin Franklin Gates in National Treasure in 2004 and went on to reprise the role in National Treasure: Book of Secrets in 2007. It's been 17 years since the sequel, and fans are constantly wondering about a third installment. Last year, Disney+ rebooted the franchise with a new series, National Treasure: Edge of History, but the show never featured an appearance by Cage, and it was canceled after one season. While there's been no real news about a third film, producer Jerry Bruckheimer did spread a little hope back in March when he said, "Well, we hope there's a National Treasure 3. We've been working on it for quite a while." Director Jon Turteltaub recently appeared on the National Treasure Hunt podcast and revealed a script is being written.

"It's being written," Turteltaub shared. "That doesn't mean it will be finished and be great, but if it's being written it will definitely be momentous when we read it. We all know what's in it. But there's a very, very good writer writing it right now who tends to write really good movies. If the script comes out close to good and you can see the finish line from where you are, we're making the movie."

"100%," Turteltaub replied when asked if Cage and the rest of the original cast could come back. "We do have to hurry because people are both getting older and less interested and lives are changing and all that. And the world changes. Our culture is changing. A lot. Since the first movie was made. Socially, certainly politically, and definitely, our language, and different cultural changes we've had. And you've got to make sure you're in touch with all that and moving with it, and doing things the right way. ... It's not as easy to just do another one. You've got to take a lot into account. I can tell you, 20 years later Justin Bartha is a lot better looking."

Nic Cage Addresses National Treasure 3:

Earlier this year, Cage spoke with Deadline and revealed he was surprised Disney hadn't officially greenlit another National Treasure movie.

"Yeah, well, they're a lot of fun," Cage said of making the National Treasure films. "I mean, I enjoy them too, and I think Jon Turteltaub made a couple of classic films for the whole family. I'm still kind of amazed that Disney hasn't wanted to make a third one. I thought the movies brought a lot of joy to the public, and it's certainly interesting about history, and I think all of that is worthwhile filmmaking. You can dig deep and go into the more abstract stuff, like Bringing out the Dead, or Pig or even Dream Scenario, or you can open it up and make a movie that pleases a lot of people and hopefully gives families a chance to escape a little bit from whatever may be going on at home or in the office. I think they're all valid."

Stay tuned for more updates about National Treasure 3.

Inside Out TV Series in the Works at Pixar https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/inside-out-tv-series-dream-productions-pixar-disney-plus/ Thu, 30 May 2024 22:59:00 +0000 Cameron Bonomolo 8194e8b0-1ec7-4375-999f-9947f177f5c7

Mind-blowing news: Inside Out is officially heading to television.

Jim Morris, the president of Pixar, confirmed an Inside Out TV series is currently in production for Disney+ and will premiere on the streaming service in 2025. According to Bloomberg, which first reported the news, the series is titled Dream Productions and is "set in the Inside Out universe of Riley's dreams."

2015's Inside Out takes place inside the mind of 11-year-old girl Riley, whose anthropomorphized emotions -- Joy (Amy Poehler), Sadness (Phyllis Smith), Anger (Lewis Black), Disgust (Mindy Kaling), and Fear (Bill Hader) -- operate from Emotional Headquarters. Also housed in Riley's brain: Dream Productions, a full-fledged Hollywood studio that produces her dreams and nightmares, like the imaginary movies I'm Falling for a Very Long Time Into a Pit, I Can Fly!, Something's Chasing Me!, and Fairy Dream Adventure - Part 7, starring Rainbow Unicorn.

First at bat is Pixar's first-ever series, Win or Lose, which will follow a different player of a little league team on their way to the finals over its eight-episode season (premiering later this year on Disney+). Morris also revealed that Pixar is considering third installments of its Incredibles and Finding Nemo movie franchises for theaters, but the company will wait to see how its first two shows perform before greenlighting future series for Disney+.

"I hope that we will not release another feature film on Disney+," Morris told Bloomberg. "If we do more stuff for Disney+, it should be a series, and then that makes a clean demarcation between what we do for theaters and what we do for streaming."

After Disney sent three consecutive Pixar movies to streaming -- 2020's Soul, 2021's Luca, and 2022's Turning Red -- Bloomberg reports that the studio "aims to make three movies every two years, with every other title a sequel or spinoff and the rest standalone concepts or potential seeds for new franchises." Following Inside Out 2, in theaters June 14, Pixar's original Elio will release in June 2025, with the previously announced Toy Story 5 set theatrical release in June 2026.

In Inside Out 2, Poehler, Smith, and Black reprise their roles from the original movie. Tony Hale and Liza Lapira are new to the cast as Fear and Disgust (replacing Hader and Kaling, respectively), and are joined by Maya Hawke as Anxiety, Ayo Edebiri as Envy, Ad?le Exarchopolos as Ennui, and Paul Walter Hauser as Embarrassment.

Dungeons & Dragons TV Series Not Moving Forward at Paramount+ https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/dungeons-dragons-tv-series-not-moving-forward-at-paramount/ Thu, 30 May 2024 22:55:00 +0000 Christian Hoffer 396aca8e-edbc-4f1b-97db-bb66e90978d2

Paramount+ is not moving forward with a planned 8-episode Dungeons & Dragons television series. Deadline reports that the Paramount+ streaming service has scrapped a planned Dungeons & Dragons television series nearly a year and a half after first announcing plans for the show. However, Hasbro still plans to develop a television show, with Deadline reporting that the television show will undergo a "creative update" before being shopped to other buyers. Hasbro's in-house Hasbro Entertainment will be guiding the series, following Hasbro's sale of eOne late last year. [Note, Paramount also owns ComicBook.]

According to Deadline, the "creative update" will include a new creative team. While Rawson Marshall Thurber was set to direct the pilot episode and direct the first episode, he and executive producer Drew Crevello will assumably no longer be involved with the series.

Details on the Dungeons & Dragons television show were light, although the show was to be set in the Forgotten Realms, the home of both Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves and the hit video game Baldur's Gate 3. Unfortunately, progress on the TV series went silent after Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves underperformed at the box office, although Paramount head Brian Robbins had said that a sequel to the movie could happen if costs could be controlled. Additionally, Hasbro CEO Chris Cocks said in February that they were still working on a Dungeons & Dragons television series with Paramount named as the partner and platform.

While the Dungeons & Dragons television show is paused for now, the larger D&D brand is celebrating its 50th anniversary with a slate of crossovers and new books. In addition to new revised Core Rulebooks that updates the actual rules of the game, Dungeons & Dragons released crossovers with LEGO and Converse and also will release a collaboration with Destiny 2 next week. An off-Broadway theatrical experience featuring Dungeons & Dragons is also underway.

New Astro Bot Game Announced by PlayStation With Release Date https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/astro-bot-ps5-game-new-release-date/ Thu, 30 May 2024 22:43:00 +0000 Tanner Dedmon b4722d09-bc1f-415d-bff5-cfc62f7b8ddb

PlayStation and one of its first-party developers, Team Asobi, confirmed this week during PlayStation's State of Play event that a new Astro Bot game is coming to the PlayStation 5. It's simply called Astro Bot and is set to release on PS5 later this year on September 6, 2024. The reveal of this game follows some rumors and speculations that a new Astro Bot game would be announced during the State of Play event. So while it's a welcome announcement for Team Asobi fans, it's not a wholly unexpected one.

For those who've been following Team Asobi's contributions to PlayStation's first-party games over the past two consoles, it also shouldn't be surprising at all to see that the developer has stuck with Astro Bot again. The Astro Bot games are quite meta compared to most other first-party games in that they directly incorporate elements from PlayStation itself such as the use and on-screen appearance of things like the DualSense controller for the PS5, so Astro Bot and Team Asobi are about as first-party as it gets.

Most often, these games are meant to showcase hardware that PlayStation has come out with recently. In 2018, Astro Bot: Rescue Mission showed off what the PlayStation VR could do as players followed Astro and his companions on missions through virtual reality. Two years later, we got Astro's Playroom in 2020 which was free for everyone who had a PlayStation 5 and made for the perfect way to showcase what the DualSense and its haptic feedback and adaptive triggers could do. To that end, this new Astro Bot game from Team Asobi is technically the first that isn't tied to a specific event or reason for existing, so it'll be interesting to see then what Team Asobi has done with it.

Prior to this game's reveal, it was leaked as one of the 14 games that'd be showcased during the State of Play event. Some of those details shared beforehand included hints that the game would take place in a desert setting and that Astro would be accompanied by a robotic fox, though it was said at the time that the game would not offer PlayStation VR 2 support which some might've expected after the VR focus on Astro Bot: Rescue Mission.

Concord, New Multiplayer Shooter From PlayStation, Gets First Gameplay and Release Date https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/concord-multiplayer-shooter-playstation-first-gameplay-release-date-ps5/ Thu, 30 May 2024 22:37:00 +0000 Ricky Frech efa61bf6-db76-48b3-868e-fe558e611949

Today's PlayStation State of Play was full of new announcements and reveals. Many of these projects are still relatively far away, but one major announcement was that PlayStation's upcoming hero shooter Concord is coming very soon. We also hadn't seen the game in action before this showcase. Fortunately, the developers at Firewalk Studio revealed an extended CGI trailer showing off several of the characters you'll get to play as and a chunky teaser of what gameplay will look like when Concord ships later this year. Of course, the hero shooter space has gotten crowded over the last several years, so it will take some work for Concord to stand out from the crowd.

Concord Release Date

As mentioned, Concord is getting a beta on PlayStation 5 and PC before it hits its full release. The developers didn't reveal the exact date but said the beta will launch in July. Most likely, we'll hear more about what to expect next month as the team preps for the beta period. Either way, players won't have to wait much longer after the beta drops, because Concord is currently scheduled to release on August 23rd.

Of course, development is never a straight line and that date could move around. After all, we've seen other shooters like XDefiant struggle to get out the door for one reason or the other. That doesn't mean Concord is at risk of being delayed, but it's fair to say that the beta might reveal issues the team needs to fix before the game launches. Hopefully, it's not enough to push the release date back and players can jump in on August 23rd.

Concord Gameplay Reveal

The two-minute gameplay trailer for Concord didn't reveal too many specifics. If you've played games like Overwatch, you essentially know what to expect. The game will likely have mechanics to help differentiate itself from the crowd, but the developers are saving that deep dive for a later date. What is worth noting is the focus Firewalk is trying to put on story-telling. Each week, players will be treated to a new vignette featuring the characters from the game. These continuing stories will help build out the universe, creating a few fan favorites along the way.

Remember Concord is scheduled to launch on August 23rd on PlayStation 5 and PC, but will have a beta period in July.

Silent Hill 2 Remake Release Date Finally Announced https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/silent-hill-2-remake-release-date-ps5-pc/ Thu, 30 May 2024 22:34:00 +0000 Logan Moore 46ddce04-981b-4b31-b562-098c65c4d9a7

At long last, the release date for Konami and Bloober Team's remake of Silent Hill 2 has been announced. Originally revealed all the way back in fall 2022, news on this long-awaited survival-horror remake has taken a long time to come about. Outside of a brief new trailer that was shown in the past year, Bloober Team has continued to implore fans to be patient while waiting for the finished product. Luckily, we now know just how long is left to wait for Silent Hill 2 as the remake now has a specific launch date.

Announced in a new trailer as part of Sony's State of Play broadcast, Silent Hill 2 was revealed to be arriving on October 8, 2024. This latest trailer for the game happened to highlight more of the cutscenes and characters seen in the remake rather solely focusing on gameplay as the previous one did. To that end, this is perhaps the best video we've received so far when it comes to the tone and look that Bloober Team is going for with its remake.

You can watch this new trailer for yourself right here:

As we previously already knew, Silent Hill 2 is set to be a console exclusive for PlayStation 5, but it will also be coming to PC as well. Despite being an exclusive to PS5, this exclusivity is set to only last for one full year. After that time, Konami could feasibly choose to bring Silent Hill 2 to Xbox platforms, or even Nintendo Switch, too. Currently, no such plans of this type have been announced, but given that the Silent Hill franchise has a history on Xbox and Nintendo hardware, there's a good chance that Konami will explore this possibility.

Outside of Silent Hill 2, Konami happens to also be remaking another one of its most iconic games in Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. Dubbed Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, this remake is currently in development at Virtuous and remains without a launch window of any sort. Given that the release plans for SH2 have finally been divulged, though, Konami might look to next shed more light on its revamped version of MGS3 in the weeks or months ahead.

Marvel Reveals A Dark Answer to Whether Thor or Hulk Would Win In A Fight https://comicbook.com/marvel/news/marvel-thor-vs-hulk-who-win-fight-avengers-twilight-ending-deaths/ Thu, 30 May 2024 22:25:00 +0000 Kofi Outlaw 809b7bd0-630f-4b51-a838-320d82e228ca

One of the longest-standing debates in the Marvel fandom has been the question of who would win in a fight between Thor Odinson and The Incredible Hulk. As two of the Avengers' biggest powerhouses, Thor and Hulk's respective power levels (strength, stamina, durability) are often too close rank decisively; in the finale to the Avengers: Twilight event series, Thor and Hulk have to take things all the way in a fight to the death - and there can only be one winner.

Avengers Twilight #6 sees Luke Cage's new Defenders team (led by an elderly Steve Rogers) locked in a furious final battle with The Red Skull. In his clandestine takeover of America, Red Skull brainwashed Hulk into being his one-man Weapon of Mass Destruction. With an enraged Hulk on the battlefield, there's only one person who can counter the threat: Thor.

Thor and Hulk battle (quite literally) across America, from Washington D.C. to Los Angeles. During the fight, Thor manages to get through to Banner, who tragically confirms that he is little more than an echo now, and slave to Red Skull's hijacking of his Hulk form. Bruce's consciousness is haunted by all the people he's killed and places he's destroyed while under Red Skull's thrall. Banner has one message for Thor: kill him before Hulk's rampage destroys so much more. Thor holds off as long as he can - until he's battered and bloody, and his armor is broken - until he has to make a final, drastic decision to give Banner what he wants.

How Thor Kills Hulk, Explained

avengers-twilight-thor-kills-hulk-fight-2.jpg
(Photo: Marvel Comics)

To finish the fight, Thor uses the one advantage in power he has over Hulk: his mystical hammer Mjolnir. Thor flies Hulk to the bottom of the Pacific Ocean and traps him there by placing Mjolnir on his chest. As Marvel fans know, Mjolnir's enchantments make it impossible for anyone but Thor (or someone equally "worthy") to lift. With the hammer pinning him, and Thor choking the remaining air out of him, Hulk eventually runs out of oxygen and drowns. The death is confirmed in the epilogue to Avengers: Twilight, in a scene where Tony Stark (who also dies in the final battle with Red Skull) runs into Bruce Banner in the great beerhall of Vahalla.

Marvel lore has always been spotty when it comes to defining the limits of Hulk's power. The debate varies with different versions of Hulk (the prime 616 version, the "Ultimate" 1610 version, and this "Twilight" version). On the whole, it's generally accepted that Hulk does not have unlimited ability to breathe underwater - to the point that the 2022 event series Maestro: World War M had a major twist reveal that Hulk's powerful future self variant (Maestro) had developed the ability to breathe underwater, allowing him to defeat a shocked Namor in the underwater setting of Atlantis.

...That's all to say, Avengers: Twilight might be an alternate reality, but the way that Thor killed Hulk feels like it's very much in line with Marvel canon.

My Adventures With Superman Season 2 Debuts New Classic Villain Makeovers https://comicbook.com/anime/news/my-adventures-with-superman-season-2-classic-villain-makeovers/ Thu, 30 May 2024 22:18:00 +0000 Evan Valentine ea5c489f-fd48-44a4-990e-7cde4b7a3e61

My Adventures With Superman's first season gave makeovers to quite a few legendary villains in the Man of Steel's rogues gallery. Deathstroke, Parasite, Live Wire, and more were all given new anime aesthetics to match the likes of Clark Kent, Lois Lane, and Jimmy Olsen. The second season of the Adult Swim hit wasted little time in bringing in new threats and giving them some major makeovers to boot.

Of the new villains that we witnessed in the first two episodes of season two, we were able to see new takes on Atomic Skull and Damage. The former has long been a big villain in Superman's roster, but the latter has always been more of a hero than a villain during his DC Comics' career. Regardless, the two were put to good use thanks to Amanda Waller, who has continued to build quite the Task Force X. As viewers witnessed during the second episode finale, we also received confirmation that the "Alex" of the series was none other than Lex Luthor. Needless to say, Clark and company have some big threats ahead.

The Superman Villain You Might Have Missed

On top of both Atomic Skull and Damage, you might have missed a villain in disguise in "Hank". While not confirmed, Lois had a friend at S.T.A.R. Labs named Hank, who might just be the character known as Hank Henshaw. Hank Henshaw turns out to be the major villain, Cyborg Superman, who not only looks like the spitting image of Superman, but has both the Kryptonian's powers and an array of technological advantages.

If you want to learn more about the latest season focusing on the Man of Steel, here's how Adult Swim describes Season Two of My Adventures With Superman, "In the latest season, the three best friends face a host of new threats. Powerful foes will emerge from Clark's alien past, Amanda Waller will take aim at Superman, Lois will grapple with the future, and Jimmy Olsen will spend an unbelievable amount of money. Krypton is coming for our young heroes, and its arrival will test their strength, loyalty, and love like never before."

God of War Ragnarok Is Getting a PC Release https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/god-of-war-ragnarok-pc-release-date/ Thu, 30 May 2024 22:16:00 +0000 Tanner Dedmon d9d700d3-0dad-4f4d-b5b4-81731b213fd7

God of War Ragnarok, the most recent game in PlayStation's long-running God of War series, is heading to the PC platform. PlayStation announced as much today during May's State of Play event, though considering the pattern PlayStation has been following with its PlayStation-to-PC releases, that shouldn't be much of a surprise. God of War Ragnarok will come to PCs later this year on September 19, 2024.

God of War Ragnarok came out back in November 2022 for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 which meant that even though we don't know when the next God of War game is coming out, it's almost certainly the last one that'll grace the PS4. Interestingly enough, it received the exact same Metacritic score as its 2018 predecessor, God of War, with both games earning a 94, so if you enjoyed the sort-of reboot for Kratos years ago and never got around to playing this one, it's worth revisiting now that it's coming to the PC platform.

It may be worth revisiting again even if you did play it on the PS4 or PS5 since PlayStation's PC ports typically offer the most complete and customizable versions of games. The most recent PlayStation-to-PC game, Ghost of Tsushima, boasted different settings not possible on the PlayStation consoles as well as a complete package with all the DLC and the Ghost of Tsushima: Legends mode, for example. God of War Ragnarok got Valhalla after release which was a free epilogue for Kratos and company, so PC players will get to navigate that as well after completing the base game.

Of course, PlayStation has been adamant about continuing to put its games on the PC platform albeit at a much later date than their PlayStation releases, so seeing God of War Ragnarok confirmed for PCs shouldn't be surprising. Other PlayStation games other than the most recent Ghost of Tsushima that have come to the PC platform include Horizon Forbidden West Complete Edition, Helldivers 2, The Last of Us Part 1, Returnal, and both Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered and Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales. With God of War Ragnarok soon to be marked off the list, one would expect Marvel's Spider-Man 2 would be the next big milestone for these PC releases.

Star Wars: The Acolyte: Amandla Stenberg Describes Thrill of Using the Force on Set https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/star-wars-the-acolyte-amandla-stenberg-force-spoilers/ Thu, 30 May 2024 22:12:00 +0000 Jenna Anderson 8e1f5f4e-7400-4ff1-9ae2-af8fa614224b

When Star Wars: The Acolyte arrives on Disney+ next month, it is expected to play with the conventions of the galaxy far, far away. Set during the franchise's High Republic era, The Acolyte will explore a dark conspiracy among early Force users, including Mae (Amandla Stenberg). In an exclusive interview with ComicBook about Star Wars: The Acolyte, Stenberg spoke about showcasing her Force powers in an unconventional physical way.

"It is the coolest thing ever," Stenberg said in our interview, which you can check out above. "And there's so many things to think about when you think about Force wielding, because we almost get a lot of creative freedom, particularly with this character, around what that looks like for her, because she's not a Jedi and she's not strictly a Sith. So I thought a lot about my hand positioning, I talked about [it] a lot with my master Lou who taught me all my stunt choreography. For me, I thought it would be more interesting... This movement is utilized often and it's the way you're maintaining chi and balance. But I thought for Mae, having it be a little crooked, a little more twisted, would make more sense for her."

Naruto Debuts New Spirit Bomb Rasengan in New Promo: Watch https://comicbook.com/anime/news/naruto-rasengan-anime-spirit-bomb/ Thu, 30 May 2024 21:38:00 +0000 Megan Peters c5b05408-8e3c-4955-ac5e-be0473563af4

Naruto Uzumaki is a powerful little man. For decades now, the shonen industry has bowed before the ninja and his insane abilities. Despite being raised as a pariah, Naruto has risen from the bottom to become one of the most respected heroes to ever grace Shonen Jump. And now, a new Naruto promo has revealed the hero's new Rasengan... and it looks like an actual Spirit Bomb.

No, we're totally serious. Get Goku on the phone if you don't believe us. The latest update for Naruto x Boruto Ultimate Ninja Storm Connections is live, and the promo reveals Naruto's devastating new attack.

As you can see above, the fan-dubbed Rasen-Bomb puts Naruto on the battlefield, and he's got some friends with him. On either side of Naruto, we can find Ashura Otsutsuki and Hashirama Senju ready for battle. It is there the two men lend Naruto their power to feed a massive Rasengan Bomb, and from there, our hero can launch his attack.

Now, according to the game itself, this ability is called Six Paths: Shins Rasen Shuriken, and it can be performed with Naruto's two allies. However, anime fans were quick to point out just how similar this technique looks to the Spirit Bomb we met in Dragon Ball. The only difference is that Goku channeled energy from thousands into his Spirit Bomb while Naruto leans heavily on chakra from just two allies.

Still, the damage has been done, and now Naruto fans are eager to see more of this new Rasengan in action. If we are lucky, the actual manga will find a way to make this Rasengan canon. But for now, netizens will only be able to enjoy the move if they've purchased the third DLC pack for Naruto x Boruto Ultimate Ninja Storm Connections.

Shawn Michaels Reveals Ethan Page's WWE NXT Debut Was a "Last Minute Thing" https://comicbook.com/wwe/news/shawn-michaels-reveals-ethan-pages-wwe-nxt-debut-was-a-last-minute-thing/ Thu, 30 May 2024 21:36:00 +0000 Haley Miller 316423a3-a463-4447-9191-aa9f1bb6ef4b

On Tuesday night's episode of WWE NXT, fans were in for a few surprises -- first, chart-topping female rapper Sexyy Red made an appearance to help unveil the NXT North American Women's Championship and reveal she's hosting NXT's upcoming PLE. Then the current TNA Knockouts World Champion Jordynne Grace reappeared to put her name into the bucket against Roxanne Perez and a former AEW wrestler made their shocking debut.

Ethan Page was recently quietly let go from AEW as fans noticed he no longer appeared on AEW's roster page. Although typically when someone pops up on WWE television it means they've signed a contract, Page has indicated that he remains a free agent. Shawn Michaels, the head of NXT's creative, opened up about how his debut came together, revealing that it was a "last minute thing" in an interview with Adrian Hernandez. "We're talking about big stuff. Of course, All Ego Ethan Page," Michaels said. "A lot of questions still that I have to get answered on that one because that was kind of a last minute thing."

"For us at NXT, it's always been about finding the best performers and best wrestlers we can find, but also cultivating our own," Michaels added when asked about the philosophy behind signing NXT talent. "No different then, even though it put me at odds with people when I was younger, this business is a little something for everybody. People always want to narrow everything down to one way of doing things. I've never done this job that way. What you like might not be something the person next to you likes. What I like is not the same as what others like. It's about having variety. It's certainly the philosophy that I've had and Hunter [Triple H] has. We just want to bring the best sports entertainment we can for everybody watching it. We want to put on banger after banger, fantastic wrestling matches. If we can have one that is entertaining in one way or a different way. The more open you are on different ideas and different creative possibilities, for us, putting ourselves in the seat of the fans. Hunter and I, at our core, are wrestling fans. That's certainly all we're trying to do. The possible matchups, these are all things we've thought out. Why not see if it's possible to see how many we can make happen. Can't hurt to give it a try" (h/t: Fightful).

Stay tuned for more on Ethan Page's contract situation and WWE.

Netflix Announces BET, a New Live-Action Adaptation of Kakegurui https://comicbook.com/anime/news/netflix-anime-bet-kakegurui/ Thu, 30 May 2024 21:20:00 +0000 Megan Peters 2dedcb90-8eaa-4edc-bed7-ef50398c87f0

It looks like Netflix is gearing up for another live-action anime adaptation. With hits like One Piece and Yu Yu Hakusho on hand, the service has another big project in mind. Today, Netflix revealed its cast for a new series BET, a live-action adaptation of Kakegurui.

According to Netflix, BET will be headed up by a solid cast including Miku Martineau, Ayo Solanke, Eve Edwards, Clara Alexandrova, Hunter Cardinal, Anwen O'Driscoll, Aviva Mongillo and Ryan Sutherland. As for the show's story, it will draw inspiration from the original Kakegurui manga and anime. Set an an elite boarding school, BET follows a group of students who navigate the school's cutthroat hierarchy and find themselves dabbling with underground gambling.

Currently, BET is in production in Toronto, Canada. No release window has been given for the live-action adaptation at this point. As for its crew, Simon Barry is directing and writing the drama. With ten episodes to its name, BET hopes to bring the world of Kakegurui outside of Japan and into a new world. So for those wanting to know more about BET, a short synopsis of the series was posted by Netflix today:

"In BET, the boarding school's hierarchy is upturned when Yumeko, a mysterious transfer student arrives from Japan with a dark secret and a gambling prowess that puts her in the crosshairs of the powerful Student Council. Ultimately, her revenge quest threatens to upend the school's status quo entirely."

If you are not familiar with Kakegurui on its own, the original series began in March 2014 under Homura Kawamoto and Toru Naomura. The manga is ongoing, and thanks to MAPPA, Kakagurui was given a hit anime adaptation starting in September 2017. A live-action drama for Kakegurui was released in Japan in 2018 which became a hit on Netflix. And now, the site is investing in a Hollywood adaptation of the high-stakes thriller with BET.

Star Trek: Discovery Series Finale Ending Explained https://comicbook.com/startrek/news/star-trek-discovery-series-finale-explained/ Thu, 30 May 2024 21:04:00 +0000 Jamie Lovett 9ba96197-180d-4b29-bdfa-b4e5ff27a9d1

Today marks the end of an era for the Star Trek franchise as Star Trek: Discovery, the series that brought Star Trek into the streaming age of television, says goodbye with its series finale episode, "Life, Itself." The creative team behind Star Trek: Discovery didn't know that the show's fifth season would be its last while filming it in Toronto. To ensure the ending suited the momentous occasion, they convened one last time to film the coda scenes that close the series finale. Those scenes are designed, in part, to line Star Trek: Discovery up with what's to come in another installment of the Star Trek franchise set even further into Star Trek's future than the 32nd century, and some viewers unfamiliar with that episode may have been confused about the details. We're here to explain. SPOILERS for Star Trek: Discovery Season 5, Episode 10, "Live, Itself" - the series finale - follow.

After the mystery of the Progenitors that began with the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode "The Chase" is resolved, and Kovich's true identity is revealed, Star Trek: Discovery jumps decades into its future to its future and finds Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green), now an admiral, living in the home she shares with Book (David Ajala), surrounded by forest. Their son, now a Starfleet captain and about to take his first command, soon arrives to pick up Michael and bring her to take Discovery out for its final mission. Upon arriving, the Discovery is being retrofitted to appear as it originally did in the 23rd century, before it received an infusion of 32nd-century technology and its new designation as the USS Discovery 1031-A. She reminisces as she explains to Zora that Discovery is embarking on a Red Directive, which involves waiting alone for someone or something called Craft, and then says her goodbyes.

(Photo: Paramount+)

Who is Craft in Star Trek?

Craft never appears in Star Trek: Discovery. Rather, Discovery's downgrade and Zora's new mission are meant to set up the the Star Trek: Short Treks episode "Calypso," which occurs 1,000 years into Star Trek: Discovery's future. In that episode, Zora's 1,000 years of solitude are interrupted by the arrival of Craft (Aldis Hodge). Craft is a soldier who abandoned his family to fight in a war. After a decade of fighting, he stole a craft to try to return home but was sent adrift until he ended up on Discovery. After his respite on Discovery - during which his relationship with Zora began to verge on the romantic - Craft takes one of Discovery's shuttles and sets course for home.

That this meeting between Zora and Craft is a Red Directive means that the events of "Calypso" are not incidental but a matter of great enough importance that Starfleet felt necessary to ensure the event occurs. Why is Craft important? How does Starfleet know about him 1,000 years before "Calypso" when time travel was illegal by the 32nd century? Why did they have to revert Discovery to its original configuration before sending it to wait a millennium for Craft? These are all seemingly answers to be addressed in another place at another time.

All episodes of Star Trek: Discovery are streaming now on Paramount+.

Star Wars: The Acolyte Showrunner Breaks Down Series With Dave Filoni in New Featurette https://comicbook.com/starwars/news/star-wars-the-acolyte-showrunner-breaks-down-series-with-dave-filoni-in-new-featurette/ Thu, 30 May 2024 20:57:00 +0000 Jamie Jirak f209230f-502e-4915-b218-ef52efafe259

Star Wars: The Acolyte is debuting on Disney+ next week, and the new series has gotten early praise from critics. The new Disney+ series is set to take place roughly a full century before the events of Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, and Lucasfilm has been getting fans excited by sharing behind-the-scenes featurettes about the project. Today, the official YouTube account for Star Wars shared a conversation between Dave Filoni and The Acoylte's showrunner, Leslye Headland.

"Dave Filoni, Lucasfilm's chief creative officer, and The Acolyte creator Leslye Headland discuss the power and breadth of Star Wars storytelling. On June 4, don't miss the two-episode premiere of #TheAcolyte, a Star Wars Original series, only on Disney+," the video's caption reads. You can check out the video below:

Leslye Headland Teases The Acolyte:

Headland has previously spoken about the series and teased what Star Wars fans can expect.

"The truth is that I, as a major mega fan, came to them with this idea. And I said, 'I think the best place to put this is in an era you guys have not quite explored yet,'" Headland revealed to Vanity Fair. "They were very enthusiastic. It wasn't that they didn't want to explore that [existing] world, but I think that they already were because The Mandalorian and a lot of the other television projects were really relying on legacy characters."

The series stars Amandla Stenberg, Lee Jung-jae, Manny Jacinto, Dafne Keen, Charlie Barnett, Jodie Turner-Smith, Rebecca Henderson, Dean-Charles Chapman, Joonas Suotamo, and Carrie-Anne Moss.

Star Wars: The Acolyte premieres on Disney+ on June 4th.

Blue Lock Season 2 Poster Released https://comicbook.com/anime/news/blue-lock-season-2-poster/ Thu, 30 May 2024 20:56:00 +0000 Evan Valentine 5329363b-1ae5-4e75-a1a7-95227f5863d8

Blue Lock's second season is set to take the anime world by storm this October, continuing the quest of many Japanese soccer players to become a part of the country's premier team. While the players won't die should they fail the "Blue Lock Program", they'll never be able to be a part of Japan's top team, meaning that their lives might as well be over for many of the participants. To give fans a closer look at the hard-hitting adventures to come, Blue Lock has released a new poster for its next season.

Blue Lock has also released a new synopsis for the second season, showing that the participants of the project still have some major challenges ahead, "In order to develop the world's best striker who can lead Japan to victory in the World Cup, the Japan Football Association launches the "Blue Lock" project. 300 high school students were invited to the project, all of whom were forwards. In the extreme situation where dropping out would mean losing their eligibility to join the Japanese national soccer team in the future, the selected talented players one by one awaken their egos as strikers. 35 people survived the harsh selection process, sometimes by kicking others down and sometimes by evolving themselves. Having overcome the frenzy of survival swirling with egos, they will bet on the survival of the "Blue Lock" project as they take on the U-20 Japan National Team in the craziest match in history!"

Blue Lock Season 2 Poster

For season two, Eight Bit Studio will return after the successful first season. Prior to the second season, Blue Lock fans have another big project to look forward to as the first film of the franchise, Blue Lock: Episode Nagi, will arrive in North American theaters next month following a successful run in Japan.

If you haven't had the chance to check out Blue Lock, the first season is available to stream on Crunchyroll. Here's how the streaming service describes the series, "Japan's desire for World Cup glory leads the Japanese Football Association to launch a new rigorous training program to find the national team's next striker. Three hundred high school players are pitted against each other for the position, but only one will come out on top. Who among them will be the striker to usher in a new era of Japanese soccer?"

Shadow the Hedgehog Game Almost Got an M-Rating https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/shadow-sonic-the-hedgehog-m-rating/ Thu, 30 May 2024 20:53:00 +0000 Marc Deschamps ecdc1b46-12fe-424b-a74d-21538b0e58f0

In 2005, Sega gave Shadow the Hedgehog his very own video game, which saw the anti-hero wielding guns, and even doing some light swearing. It's pretty dark for a Sonic the Hedgehog spin-off, but Sega almost went even edgier for the game. In an interview with GameLuster, Shadow's former voice actor Jason Griffith revealed that he recorded two versions of the game's audio: the one Sega went with, and a version where Shadow is far more foul-mouthed. Apparently, Sega was considering an M-rating for the game, but opted not to go with it.

"Right, they were going for an M-rating with this game and they hadn't heard back from the agency if they were going to get it yet. So they had me record two takes for every line, and I swear, the version that was for the M-rating, they had me say f*** in every single line. It was just every sentence, I would be yelling 'Sonic, give me that f***ing Chaos Emerald!' or something like that. I had no idea what was going on but I just went with it, and I had fun. There's a hard drive somewhere with hours of recordings of Shadow yelling f*** at Tails and Sonic and stuff."

Would Shadow be Popular Today if His Game Was M-Rated?

While older Sonic fans would have surely gotten some enjoyment out of hearing the brooding Shadow profusely cursing, the move would have made it a lot harder for Sega to market the character to fans of all-ages outside the game. This is a character that now appears in LEGO sets, on good2grow drink bottles, and on cartoon shows aimed at viewers of all ages.

Sega is even running a campaign this year known as the "Year of Shadow," which is all about encouraging kids to "stay fearless" in the face of adversity. It kind of goes without saying that sort of campaign would be a tougher sell right now had Shadow starred in an M-rated game. It's honestly hard to say if Shadow would be a household name had Sega gone a lot darker with his only starring role. It hasn't stopped Deadpool from appearing on a metric ton of Marvel merchandise, though the character is aimed at kids a lot less than Shadow is.

The Year of Shadow

Nearly 19 years after the the release of Shadow the Hedgehog, the game's eponymous star still has a reputation of being the "edgiest" Sonic character, but he's still marketable enough to kids that he gets to play a major role in this year's Sonic the Hedgehog 3, where he'll be played by Keanu Reeves. It's fun to think about how much different the character's path might have been, but everything seemed to work out for the best!

Are you disappointed Shadow didn't swear a bunch in his video game? Do you think Sega made the right call avoiding an M-rating? Share your thoughts with me directly on Twitter at @Marcdachamp, on Bluesky at @Marcdachamp, or on Instagram at @Dachampgaming!

Fallout Star Walton Goggins Reacts to Series' Massive Success https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/fallout-tv-series-reactions-ratings-success-walton-goggins-ghoul/ Thu, 30 May 2024 20:46:00 +0000 Kofi Outlaw eb23aa24-fe05-4ebe-b961-049877f98f44

Amazon Prime Video's Fallout TV series is a breakout success after Season 1, in terms of both streaming ratings and mainstream buzz. The TV adaptation of Fallout not only brought a whole new audience to the long-popular Fallout games - the show created its own iconic lore independent of the games - with one of the biggest successful additions being the introduction of Cooper Howard, the once-famous Hollywood actor who ended up becoming the dreaded bounty hunter known only as "The Ghoul" in the wasteland.

Goggins' portrayal of The Ghoul and his character's entire surprising turns in the story are a large part of the reason that Fallout (2024) has blown up on social media. The before-and-after comparison photos between Goggins as "Cooper" and him in makeup as "The Ghoul" have already been cemented as a meme trend that will live on for years to come.

While talking to LA Times recently, Goggins tried to express just how much Fallout's reception has exceeded what even the cast and crew hoped for: "No one imagined it would be on this scale. That is gratifying and extremely humbling," Goggins said. "People have shown up and responded to the work of 500 people that pulled this thing together."

Walton Goggins knows all too well that the prime of his career has been all about unexpected projects and roles becoming breakout successes. Goggins got even more notice in the gritty LA cop series The Shield (2002-2008), which was one of the first series to establish FX as a network for prestige original programming. Goggins then had a small villain role expand in a major way with FX's country-western crime-dama series Justified (2010-2015; 2023) where he played fan-favorite redneck crime boss, Boyd Crowder. Ever since starring in Justified, Goggins has been in higher demand as a character actor; in 2024 he has not only been a major part of Fallout but also Prime Video's hit animated series Invincible, which is based on the cult-hit comic series.

"My career has been like a stock that you want to own, that I want to own," Goggins explained. "There have been dips, but it's gradually gone up over time. I don't know, man. They say one door closes and another door opens. My life has been, one door opens and another door opens and another door opens, and you find yourself in rooms with people like Quentin Tarantino and ["Fallout" executive producer Jonathan Nolan] without questioning how you got there."

Chris Hemsworth in Talks to Star in Transformers / G.I. Joe Crossover Movie https://comicbook.com/movies/news/chris-hemsworth-transformers-g-i-joe-crossover-movie/ Thu, 30 May 2024 20:45:00 +0000 Jenna Anderson 9187e6dc-6d40-41b2-8400-4fad43daf63c

The long-awaited Transformers and G.I. Joe crossover movie may have landed its first major star. On Thursday, reports indicated that Marvel Cinematic Universe and Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga star Chris Hemsworth is in talks to join the cast of the currently-untitled Transformers / G.I. Joe movie. Details of Hemsworth's potential role are currently under wraps.

If the deal comes to fruition, it would mark Hemsworth's second role in the Hasbro franchise, with the actor also starring as a younger version of Optimus Prime in the animated Transformers One movie, which is scheduled to make its debut in September of this year.

What Is the Transformers / G.I. Joe Movie About?

Officially announced by Paramount Pictures earlier this year, Transformers / G.I. Joe will finally introduce a live-action crossover between the two iconic Hasbro multimedia lines. The prospect of the crossover was first teased in the ending of 2023's Transformers: Rise of the Beasts. Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Mark Vahradian, Michael Bay, Tom DeSanto & Don Murphy are producing, while Steven Spielberg and Hasbro Entertainment are executive producers. A director for the film is not currently confirmed.

"We are going to deliver on the promise we made," di Bonaventura told ComicBook in a previous interview. "We've talked about it since the beginning of the franchise because the fans have been like, 'Come on, when you are going to do Joe?!' The truth of the matter is there's so many great Transformers characters that we didn't feel like we needed to rush and do G.I. Joe. But you also want an organic way, otherwise it feels like a cynical exercise."

What Is Transformers One Aabout?

Transformers One will tell the untold origin story of Optimus Prime and Megatron, better known as sworn enemies, but once were friends bonded like brothers who changed the fate of Cybertron forever. In addition to Hemsworth, the ensemble voice cast of Transformers One includes Brian Tyree Henry as Megatron, Scarlett Johansson as Elita, Keegan-Michael Key as Bumblebee, Laurence Fishburne as Alpha Trion, Jon Hamm as Sentinel Prime, and Steve Buscemi as the film's villain.

"We did our take on the origin, which is still staying true to the lore of Transformers," Transformers One director Josh Cooley previously told ComicBook."I wouldn't say that this is a direct prequel to anything that's been done with live-action ones," Cooley added. "But it's definitely its own story as well."

Zach Gilford Talks Making His Directorial Debut in Criminal Minds: Evolution Season 17 https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/zach-gilford-talks-making-his-directorial-debut-in-criminal-minds-evolution-season-17/ Thu, 30 May 2024 20:36:00 +0000 Haley Miller b63df794-45de-4a84-9d69-d110c11f87b8

On June 6, Paramount+ will release the first two episodes of Criminal Minds: Evolution Season 17, a continuation of one of the longest-running crime shows on television. The show concluded with season 15 on CBS but was quickly revealed to be in development during the pandemic. The show gained so much popularity when people were watching from home that it introduced an entirely new audience to the franchise. Season 16 of Evolution debuted in November of 2022 on Paramount+ with most of the original cast, minus Matthew Gray Gubler and Daniel Henney as SSA's Dr. Spencer Reid and Matthew Simmons, respectively.

In anticipation of the newest season, Comicbook spoke with the cast all about what season 17 has to offer. As is tradition with the cast, many of them will return to the directors chair this season -- including AJ Cook and Aisha Tyler who directed episodes two and seven. A new face is set to take on the chair this season, though, and that's Zach Gilford who plays serial killer Elias Voit.

"Yeah, no, it was my directorial debut. Every one of my cast members who directed before were so open and helpful and held my hand through it," Gilford told Comicbook when asked if he'd be making his directorial debut this season. "I shadowed Doug, the director of the opening episode. I just talked to so many directors that I've worked with in the past just because I kind of -- I didn't want to fail. And I worked my ass off, it was so fun. And like these guys, I mean, it's very intimidating directing the first time and having scenes of Joe Mantegna and Felicity Huffman. But yeah, everyone was just so kind and I learned so much. I think I'm gonna be such a better actor because of it. But it was exciting, it was one of the most exciting times I've had in awhile."

In the wake of last season's shocking finale which saw Voit get taken into custody by the FBI and a mysterious figure stepping into the room to speak to him, season 17 picks up as the FBI's elite team of profilers investigates the deadly mystery of Gold Star. Per the synopsis, "As the conspiracy unfolds, the Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU) is met with an unexpected complication when serial killer Elias Voit negotiates a deal that transfers him to federal custody in the BAU's own backyard. The team faces its biggest threat yet and cannot emerge unscathed from the mind-bending consequences."

Stay tuned to Comicbook for more on season 17 of Criminal Minds: Evolution.

Lords of the Fallen Releases Clash of Champions Update With Patch Notes https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/lords-of-the-fallen-clash-of-champions-update-patch-notes/ Thu, 30 May 2024 20:34:00 +0000 Ricky Frech a8b0e852-703d-40e2-bc7e-5f871e1b6f89

Last month, developer Hexworks announced that the Master of Fate update was meant to be "the final chapter" of Lords of the Fallen. Today, we learned that finality isn't what it used to be as the team revealed another chunky patch providing players with brand-new ways to play. The Clash of Champions update in Lords of the Fallen features two new boss rush modes that will test players' skills more than any other mode the team has produced. Fortunately, you can take it on in both single-player and online co-op, making the task slightly easier if you have a buddy to help.

The first mode is called "Echoes of Battle," and it features six fights against several fan-favorite bosses. If you take them down without dying, you'll earn new rewards. "Crucible" is the other mode and it's being called the "ultimate challenge." You have to beat the normal game before it unlocks and you'll unlock even harder versions by completing specific tasks. The team has also introduced a few performance improvements, notably fixing the stuttering issues players were running into after the Master of Fate patch.

Below, you'll find the full notes for the Clash of Champions update. Lords of the Fallen is available now on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.

Moana 2's Massive Milestone Bodes Well for 2024 Disney Slate https://comicbook.com/movies/news/moana-2-disney-trailer-milestone-2024-release-inside-out-deadpool-wolverine/ Thu, 30 May 2024 20:22:00 +0000 Aaron Perine 98b1da13-e819-4f24-afb1-0080b5046f1e

Moana 2 has already hit a massive Disney milestone and that bodes well for the rest of the company's 2024. This week, fans were treated to the trailer for Moana 2 and it promptly became the most-watched animated trailer in the company's history. 178 million views rushed ashore in just 24 hours, dethroning the anticipated Inside Out 2. With both of the these projects on the horizon, Disney can breathe a sigh of relief about their theatrical prospects heading into the rest of 2024. As the summer theatrical landscape is still looking for the first full-stop blockbuster, their studios might be able to put out one project each season that stands above the rest.

Later this fall, Moana 2 will hit theaters and there's good reason to believe it will be one of the biggest movies of the year. How can you tell when tickets aren't even on sale yet? Well, take one look at the streaming ratings numbers from 2023 and it all begins to snap into frame. Moana was the most streamed movie of last year. That's absolutely wild for an animated film. But, not completely out of the realm of possibility. Every parent reading this right now has probably heard one of the Disney movie's numerous songs. (You should probably prepare your eardrums now, some new ones are on the way to nestle into your subconscious.)

Despite beginning life as a Disney+ series, the sequel has become a force of its own with people getting excited about seeing something that reminds them of a previous era of cinematic experiences. Also, maybe when they were younger, or their parents were younger too. It stands to reason this will be a big family event just like Frozen 2 was all the way back in 2019. At this point, Disney would be breaking down the doors for an opening like that. Very few projects have enjoyed the halcyon days of 2019 at the cinema. It takes "events" and Moana 2 could end up fitting the bill.

Disney's Summer Already Looking Pretty Good

kingdom-of-the-planet-of-the-apes-ending-explained.jpg
(Photo: 20th Century)

Disney managed to start the summertime off with Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes. While some may have questioned revisiting the primate action/drama franchise, that choice has clearly paid off. Just yesterday, Kindgdom of the Planet of the Apes passed $300 million worldwide. In week 3, the movie continues to roll on as a new apes trilogy could be in the works if it climbs even higher.

One look around the multiplex shows Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes as the biggest non-family movie winner of this young summer. All around Wes Ball's latest offering are question marks littered around. The Fall Guy's opening has sparked a ton of hang-wringing around the industry. Universal felt like they were going to kick the door in on the warmer months and that clearly hasn't transpired. Over at Warner Bros., Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga was lauded by critics but audiences were hesitant to follow in the same numbers for some reason.

So, things just haven't flamed on for the summer in the way that a lot of studios would have hoped. Maybe it's the advent of streaming? (More like a constant deluge of media sources touting a downturn that really never transpired and lingering worries about prices that actually are not quite as bad across the board as you would believe from popular Internet videos.) All of this clear the deck for the groundswell that will clear the way for Moana 2.

Moana 2 Bats Clean-Up After Deadpool

wolverine-deadpool3.png

Summer isn't over yet, but it's gonna get late early if one of these movies cannot get a good enough head start on Marvel Studios' Deadpool & Wolverine. Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman have crafted a juggernaut in waiting that is poised to rule over the multiplex in July. Conversation has swirled around the old MCU for a couple of years now. Even as the output has remained near the top of the ladder in the post-2020 media environment. (Not topping it in the same way though necessarily.)

Deadpool & Wolverine stands to buck that trend in a massive way. Not only is it a Ryan Reynolds sequel to a beloved franchise, it's also a reintroduction to Jackman's surly Wolverine and the X-Men as a whole. For almost a year, the fanbase has provided its own marketing campaign for the movie. As they clamored for more connection between Marvel entries, what they really wanted was the X-Men to make them feel like kids again. And, Deadpool & Wolverine is going to do that.

If Inside Out 2 and Deadpool & Wolverine hit, there's a very real chance that 3 Disney movies could occupy a majority of the top spots on the box office ladder by the year's end. That would be a wild turnaround after constant raking over the coals by the press and commenters online. Moana 2 looks like an inescapable wave and at the rate this is going, that's probably a good thing for theaters all over.

Bad Boys: Ride or Die Soundtrack Drops Lead Single: Listen https://comicbook.com/movies/news/bad-boys-ride-or-die-soundtrack-album-single-lorne-balfe/ Thu, 30 May 2024 20:15:00 +0000 Cameron Bonomolo 896d20e3-2836-43bd-bb62-97281478da94

The Bad Boys are back on the beat.

Sony Music Masterworks has released composer Lorne Balfe's lead single from the Bad Boys: Ride or Die soundtrack album, and it remixes Mark Mancina's iconic theme from 1995's Bad Boys (ba-da-da-da-da-daaa!) The 15-track score doesn't drop until June 7 -- the same day the Will Smith and Martin Lawrence-starring buddy cop action-comedy hits theaters -- but fans can listen to the title track, "Bad Boys: Ride or Die," by pressing play below.

"Working with [producer] Jerry [Bruckheimer], [directors] Adil and Bilall is always such a pleasure given their creative input and love for music in general, so when I got the call to return as the composer on Bad Boys: Ride or Die it was a no-brainer," Balfe said in a statement. "Mark Mancina's original theme is instantly recognizable, so it was crucial to use this as the blueprint for the score. I expand on the iconic theme by upping the pace in order to keep up with the action-packed sequences, and quick-witted humor that is seen throughout the film."

bad-boys-ride-or-die-soundtrack-music-album.jpg

Here's the official Bad Boys: Ride or Die (Original Motion Picture Score) tracklisting:

  • Bad Boys: Ride Or Die
  • Sugar Rush Shootout
  • Basement of the Ocean
  • Fear is a Tool
  • Bridge Barrage
  • Prison Yard Attack
  • Hacking Howard
  • Framing The Boys
  • Flammable Fluid
  • Finding McGrath
  • Reggie In Action
  • Columbian Manicure
  • Taking Heavies
  • No More Prayers
  • Standoff

The Grammy-winning and Emmy-nominated composer returns to the franchise after scoring 2020's Bad Boys for Life. Balfe's credits include the Bruckheimer-produced Top Gun: Maverick, 6 Underground and Ambulance (from original Bad Boys and Bad Boys II director Michael Bay), Mission: Impossible -- Dead Reckoning, Black Adam, and the upcoming Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F.

Bad Boys: Ride or Die (Original Motion Picture Score) is available for pre-order on Apple Music, iTunes, Spotify, YouTube Music, Amazon Music, Pandora, and Deezer. Bad Boys: Ride or Die -- starring Will Smith, Martin Lawrence, Vanessa Hudgens, Alexander Ludwig, Paola Nu?ez, Eric Dane, Ioan Gruffudd, Jacob Scipio, Melanie Liburd, Tasha Smith, Rhea Seehorn, with Tiffany Haddish and Joe Pantoliano -- is playing only in theaters June 7.

Jujutsu Kaisen: How Yuta's Cursed Technique Brought Gojo Back From the Dead https://comicbook.com/anime/news/jujutsu-kaisen-manga-yuta-okkotsu-gojo-curse-technique/ Thu, 30 May 2024 20:14:00 +0000 Megan Peters 787d9d1e-6304-4e9d-8630-8685c5971942

Jujutsu Kaisen has fans on edge right now, and while that is hardly surprising for the series, the manga's intensity is staying strong. Creator Gege Akutami is in the midst of the Shinjuku Showdown arc, and to date, it has taken a number of lives. Months ago, fans were stunned when Gojo Satoru met his fate at the hands of Sukuna, but things are now different. In the latest chapter of Jujutsu Kaisen, Gojo Satoru made their comeback, and we're breaking down how Yuta's cursed technique made it possible.

So let's address the elephant in the room, yeah? Jujutsu Kaisen killed off Gojo Satoru just over a year ago, and it was a bloody show. Sukuna managed to cleave time and space itself to take out Gojo. Now, the sorcerer is back on the battlefield, but it isn't the Gojo we know. Instead, the body of Gojo is fighting once more, and Yuta is the one controlling him.

gojo-satoru.png
(Photo: Shueisha)

The revelation just about broke the Internet, and now fans are breaking down the impact Yuta's decision will have on the series. In every physiological sense, Gojo is dead - he was bisected at the hip, and his brain has been removed from his body. Yuta's own brain is now occupying Gojo's body in order to control it, and that is because Yuta used his cursed technique to copy Kenjaku's own before the ancient sorcerer was killed.

We know Yuta has the incredible ability to copy the cursed techniques of others. His innate ability is called Copy, you know? When Yuta is tied to Rika, he can copy the innate abilities of others, but there are limits. Certain conditions must be met for Yuta to copy an innate ability, and for some, he can only use them for a short period of time. This has led many fans to question if Yuta (and Gojo) will only be around for about five minutes, but that likely isn't the case.

After all, Yuta's use of innate techniques is impacted by what kind of cursed technique it leans into. There are one-time activation techniques as well as continuous types and intermittent type. If Kenjaku's body-hijacking ability is a single activation, Yuta may be able to stick around longer than anticipated. But either way, fans are still uncertain of whether Yuta can use other copied techniques while using Copy to pilot Gojo's body.

For now, all eyes are on the future of Yuta (Gojo) vs Sukuna. The showdown is ongoing as the pair just laid their domains against one another. So hopefully, Jujutsu Kaisen will keep fans roped in with Gojo as the sorcerer's future with Yuta looks more uncertain than ever.

Deadpool & Wolverine: Regal Teases Alternate Popcorn Bucket https://comicbook.com/movies/news/deadpool-and-wolverine-regal-alternate-popcorn-bucket-teaser/ Thu, 30 May 2024 20:10:00 +0000 Timothy Adams 89ed51eb-680d-427f-96b5-fc5ac4c29e15

Regal is getting in on the popcorn bucket craze with a specialized bucket for Deadpool & Wolverine. One of the highlights of going to a movie theater is getting a limited-time popcorn bucket for the film. One thing that makes the reunion between Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman in Deadpool & Wolverine so unique is it's the only movie Marvel Studios is releasing this year. After a rocky film slate, Marvel Studios is looking to rebound at the box office, and soon moviegoers will have Deadpool & Wolverine popcorn buckets as souvenirs. The bucket planned by Regal Cinemas hopes to be at the top of the request pile.

The Regal Instagram account shared a video teasing its popcorn buck for Deadpool & Wolverine. "Alright, @vancityreynolds You showed us yours but we're gonna make you wait to see ours. #warofthepopcornbuckets #DeadpoolAndWolverine," the account said. "If you want to see the full video, tweet at Ryan."

As for the video, a narrator tells us that "Regal is proud to introduce our first-ever combination drink and popcorn collectible container, featuring a character from Deadpool & Wolverine. The chair on the screen slowly starts to spin around to the viewer, but before we can find out who is sitting in the chair, the TVA interrupts the signal to prevent multiverse spoilers. AMC reveals Deadpool & Wolverine popcorn bucket

AMC Theatres was first to unveil a Deadpool & Wolverine-themed popcorn bucket. "Don't try to butter me up. #deadpoolandwolverine ??," star Hugh Jackman shared on X (formerly Twitter). earlier today. Of course, the bucket is just as crude as the Marvel movie, with the bucket formed in the shape of Wolverine's head with its mouth open awaiting popcorn. It also has the phrase, "Designed by Deadpool" written on it.

These popcorn buckets come on the heels of AMC Theatres' souvenir sandworm bucket for Dune: Part Two. They caused a huge stir online and inspired a hilarious Saturday Night Live sketch. AMC Chief Content Officer Elizabeth Frank recently responded to the Dune: Part Two buckets.

"We continue to learn and evolve. We would have never imagined the Dune thing. We would have never created it knowing it would be celebrated or mocked," Frank told Variety. "Absolutely," she added when asked if the SNL sketch felt like a "seal of approval." "And you couldn't make it happen if you wanted to. It wouldn't be fair to pull our creative talent aside to say, 'We hope it makes SNL.'"

"Some fans are collectors. There's another group of people who are specific film fans, buying three different Ghostbusters products. It's all a mix. It's a material part of our food and beverage business, but it's not the majority of it. It also makes the movies more fun. It's like going home from a concert with a T-shirt. There is a lot of creative energy from it," she added.

What is Deadpool & Wolverine about?

In Marvel Studios' Deadpool & Wolverine, Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) will change the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Wolverine (Hugh Jackman). The film also stars Matthew Macfadyen as Paradox, and Emma Corrin as Cassandra Nova, with the return of Deadpool alums Morena Baccarin as Vanessa Carlysle, Leslie Uggams as Blind Al, Karan Soni as Dopinder, Stefan Kapi?i? as Piotr Rasputin/Colossus, Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Rob Delaney as Peter, and Lewis Tan as Shatterstar. Aaron Stanford is returning as Pyro from the X-Men film series, with Jennifer Garner rumored to return as Elektra Natchios.

Kevin Feige, Ryan Reynolds, Shawn Levy and Lauren Shuler Donner produce with Louis D'Esposito, Wendy Jacobson, Mary McLaglen, Josh McLaglen, Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick, George Dewey and Simon Kinberg serving as executive producers. Deadpool & Wolverine is written by Ryan Reynolds & Rhett Reese & Paul Wernick & Zeb Wells & Shawn Levy. Deadpool & Wolverine will be released exclusively in theaters on July 26th.

Knives Out 3: Mila Kunis Joins Wake Up Dead Man Cast https://comicbook.com/movies/news/knives-out-3-mila-kunis-joins-wake-up-dead-man-cast/ Thu, 30 May 2024 19:46:00 +0000 Jamie Jirak 85435d80-24df-4b1c-b921-2ad7223ce7fe

It's been a big week for fans of Rian Johnson's whodunnit films, Knives Out and Glass Onion. The murder mystery film series sees Daniel Craig starring as detective Benoit Blanc, and each movie surrounds the actor with a star-studded supporting cast. It was announced earlier this week that the third film in the series will be called Wake Up Dead Man, and news of the cast has been pouring in each day. Today, it was revealed that Marvel star Jeremy Renner has joined the production. According to a new report from Deadline, Mila Kunis has also been added to the cast.

It's currently unclear who the That '70s Show alum will be playing in Wake Up Dead Man, but she will be joined by Craig and Renner in addition to Josh O'Connor, Kerry Washington, Glenn Close, Cailee Spaeny, and Andrew Scott.

"I love everything about whodunnits, but one of the things I love most is how malleable the genre is. There's a whole tonal spectrum from Carr to Christie, and getting to explore that range is one of the most exciting things about making Benoit Blanc movies," Rian Johnson wrote on Twitter. "We're about to go into production on the 3rd one, and I'm very, very excited to share the title, which gives a little hint of where it's going."

Johnson proceeded to share a short video that showed the previous film titles, Knives Out and Glass Onion, before revealing Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery. The film is currently scheduled to be released in 2025.

"It's coming along. I obviously couldn't work during the strike, and now that it's over, I'm diving in full force, and so it's coming along," Johnson previously said of the project. "I've got the premise, I've got the setting, I've got what the movie is in my head. It's just a matter of writing the damn thing."

"The first one, [Johnson] had the idea for years in his head, but he only put pen to paper like late January and by end of October we were filming it, which is a super fast," producer Ram Bergman told ComicBook. "This movie, he really did not have an idea. He just stopped thinking and we were... From the moment he started really writing it, like, nine months later, a year later, we were filming. So, the good thing, he is very motivated to go do the next one as quickly as possible. But, you know, we'll see how fast he is but this is gonna be a challenge. It's gonna be a bigger challenge. So we'll see how long it's gonna take."

McFarlane Toys DC Multiverse The Dark Knight Trilogy Tumbler Vehicles Drop On May 31st https://comicbook.com/movies/news/mcfarlane-toys-dc-multiverse-the-dark-knight-trilogy-tumbler-vehicles-drop-on-may-31st/ Thu, 30 May 2024 19:35:00 +0000 Sean Fallon 9bfb1e0e-5574-4820-9a17-35d5097835ae psx-20240530-152930.jpg

McFarlane Toys is set to drop two new 7-inch scale vehicles in their DC Multiverse Gold Label lineup - the Camouflage Tumbler from The Dark Knight Rises and Lucius Fox and Tumbler 2-pack from The Dark Knight. The catch is that both will be exclusives, and when it comes to Batman-themed releases of this nature, that generally means that they will sell out very quickly. The good news is that a restock is likely, though it might take some time. This was the case with the '89 Batmobile that McFarlane Toys launched last year.

That said, both vehicles will be available to pre-order on May 31st, most likely around 12pm ET. A price hasn't been announced, but we would expect both to retail for at least $70, with the 2-pack likely fetching more because of the additional figure. The Camouflage Tumbler will be an Amazon exclusive, and should be available to order right here. The Lucius Fox and Tumbler 2-pack will be a McFarlane Toys Store exclusive. Direct links will be added here after the launch, so stay tuned!

gowx3-3xuaaxs2p.jpg

While you're at it, mark your calendar for June 7th because McFarlane Toys is set to launch pre-orders for a Batman Forever Build-A-Wave series of figures. Odds are they will be available at retailers like Entertainment Earth on that day, so stay tuned to this page for additional information as we get closer to the event. Note that McFarlane Toys previously released a Val Kilmer Batman figure as part of the Batman Ultimate Movie Collection set.

The Backrooms: Lost Media Fans Have Finally Identified Where the Creepypasta Photo Was Taken https://comicbook.com/movies/news/the-backrooms-lost-media-identified-original-creepypasta-photo/ Thu, 30 May 2024 19:34:00 +0000 Russ Burlingame cd582e1f-1e0c-457f-af2d-66bf933b0f90

"The Backrooms" is that rare 4Chan post that not only became familiar to mainstream audiences, but broke out of the social media bubble to become a fairly mainstream pop culture phenomenon. Originally just a creepy photo, an anonymous user attached it to a short "creepypasta," and it almost immediately took off. The story of The Backrooms is short, to the point, and basically a perfect creepypasta: "If you're not careful and you noclip out of reality in the wrong areas, you'll end up in the Backrooms, where it's nothing but the stink of old moist carpet, the madness of mono-yellow, the endless background noise of fluorescent lights at maximum hum-buzz, and approximately six hundred million square miles of randomly segmented empty rooms to be trapped in. God save you if you hear something wandering around nearby, because it sure as hell has heard you."

In the decade or so since, there has been a webseries adaptation, video games, and A24 is reportedly developing a feature film based on the concept. So, it's probably not surprising that eventually people started to wonder what the actual story of the photo was. That kicked off a search -- which ended yesterday.

A number of Discord users -- handles Serrara, Semliot, Xaft, and PerditusRedux -- have discovered an Internet Archive link that shows off the very first version of the photo that was posted online. PerditusRedux was key in finding the origins of the photo, and it was actually a fairly simple idea: they took the earliest known filename for the image (one discovered and identified by Serrara), and plugged it into X's search function. That kicked back a years-old tweet that featured a link to a post from Hobby Town in Oshkosh, WI.

You can see a pretty great breakdown from YouTuber Farrell McGuire below.

While a number of people after them would find the image liminal, unsettling, or downright creepy, the photo was originally presented without any such context. Instead, the link detailed the process of tearing apart some old display walls from a closed-down furniture store, so they could build a race track for remote control cars.

The furniture store theory was one that had been put forth by McGuire about a month ago, in a video where he speculated that's why there were so many odd, seemingly false walls, why the walls had a protective rail mounted on them, and why there seemed to be so few plugs for such a large area.

Maybe if we get lucky, A24 can include some creepy RC cars in their version of The Backrooms now...!

Ubisoft Forward Event Announced, Will Feature Star Wars, Assassin's Creed, and More https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/ubisoft-forward-star-wars-outlaws-assassins-creed-shadows/ Thu, 30 May 2024 19:32:00 +0000 Marc Deschamps b57dde3e-9d25-40c6-a264-47463f9f9a65

A new Ubisoft Forward has been announced. The event will take place on June 10th at 12 p.m. PT, and the publisher has already revealed some of the games that will be featured. The line-up will include at least three of the company's big 2024 releases: Star Wars Outlaws, Assassin's Creed Shadows, and XDefiant. While those three games would probably be enough to get a lot of people tuning in, Ubisoft has also teased that additional games will be featured. A pre-show will take place 30 minutes prior, and there will be "a deeper look" at some of these games after the event's conclusion.

Ubisoft Forward will stream live on the company's channels on YouTube (link here) and Twitch (link here). A teaser trailer for the event can be found below.

What Other Games Could be Featured?

While we know of at least three games that will appear at Ubisoft Forward, there are several other possibilities. A 20th anniversary edition of Beyond Good & Evil was confirmed by Ubisoft late last year, following a leak. Unfortunately, there's been no word on the game since, and Ubisoft technically hasn't announced any platforms (though those also seem to have leaked thanks to the ESRB). The game was supposed to be released in early 2024, but that window has pretty much closed at this point. While the original never found a huge audience, there are still a lot of people passionate about the game that are eager to see it remastered. Hopefully the anniversary edition is still coming along smoothly and we'll learn more soon.

Additionally, this could be a great place for an update on the remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. Like Beyond Good & Evil - 20th Anniversary Edition, we haven't heard about the remake since late last year, when Ubisoft stated that the game had "passed an important internal milestone." That would seem to indicate that progress has been coming along nicely on the game. While Prince of Persia fans have had a lot to celebrate lately, news on the remake of Sands of Time would be a nice cherry on top.

A Big Month for Gaming Events

Ubisoft Forward is just one of several gaming events that will be taking place in the month of June. In addition to Ubisoft Forward, Summer Game Fest will take place on June 7th, while the Xbox Games Showcase is happening on June 9th. Last but not least, a Nintendo Direct will be happening in June, though a date has not been announced.

Dragon Ball Super Cosplay Performs The Fusion Dance to Make Gogeta https://comicbook.com/anime/news/dragon-ball-super-cosplay-super-saiyan-blue-gogeta/ Thu, 30 May 2024 19:18:00 +0000 Evan Valentine e1c131f7-9ab8-4025-8df8-6144e89742e8

During Dragon Ball Z's Majin Buu Arc, a new element was added to the lives of the Z-Fighters in the Fusion Dance. First performed by Goten and Trunks to create Gotenks, Goku and Vegeta would eventually get in on the "fun" in the twelfth movie of the Dragon Ball Z series. "Fusion Reborn" wasn't considered a part of the main canon of the franchise, meaning that Gogeta of Dragon Ball Super: Broly was the first time the fused character would appear.

While the fusion dance creates a being that is far stronger than the sum of its parts, the fusion only lasts for thirty minutes. Once the fusion ends, the two players involved will only be able to perform the dance once an hour has passed. Considering how complicated the dance is and how wrong it can go if not performed perfectly, it's always a risk when it comes to using the technique to fight a strong opponent. It took Goku and Vegeta three tries to get it right when they teleported away from Broly during the Dragon Ball Super movie, but ultimately, Gogeta was able to take down the Legendary Super Saiyan to cap off the film.

Super Saiyan Blue Gogeta Hits The Real World

The Broly movie was the last time that we witnessed Gogeta in the Dragon Ball Super series, though there have been quite a few instances where the fusion character was needed. During both the Moro and Granolah The Survivor Arcs, the Z-Fighters found themselves with their backs against the wall. Neither storyline has had the opportunity to be adapted to the small screen, though should they ever hit the anime, the news will send shockwaves through the anime fan community as a result.

This fall, Dragon Ball will return to the small screen via Dragon Ball Daima though it seems unlikely that Gogeta will be making an appearance. Thanks to the main premise being that Goku and company are transformed into kids, and taking place before the start of Dragon Ball Super, Daima most likely won't see Goku and Vegeta performing a fusion dance. Even Goten and Trunks might not get the chance as the two young fighters are turned into babies thanks to the nefarious wish made on the dragon balls.

One Piece, Inuyasha Star Announces Hospitalization https://comicbook.com/anime/news/one-piece-anime-usopp-actor-surgery/ Thu, 30 May 2024 19:15:00 +0000 Megan Peters 170c766e-cd88-4546-b5de-c9af536d4303

The anime fandom is sending all its best wishes to one of its fave actors these days. Thanks to a new report, we have learned Kappei Yamaguchi has been laid low. The voice actor found himself hospitalized this week, and according to Yamaguchi, they will be needing surgery ASAP after they injured themselves working out.

"I'm going to be hospitalized for a bit starting today. It's for surgery on my shoulder because I overdid it weightlifting. I'll come back with a cyborg shoulders. Let's stay lively and energetic," the One Piece and Inuyasha star shared. Taking to social media later, Yamaguchi admitted he had reached the hospital, and he thanked fans for all of their support.

"Thank you everyone for your supportive words. I overdid it while weightlifting and ended up with a torn tendon in my shoulder. It won't heal naturally so surgery is necessary. It's not that serious, so I'm sorry for worrying anyone. From tomorrow onwards, my shoulder will be a cyborg!"

Clearly, Yamaguchi is in good spirits, and he isn't expecting to be waylaid by his surgery. This update is good as the voice actor oversees Usopp in One Piece. Beyond that, the actor oversees Shinichi Kudo and Kaito Kid in Detective Conan, so the actor stays busy. Plus, he's got quite the legacy with other hit series such as Inuyasha, Ranma 1/2, Death Note, and more.

If you are not familiar with Yamaguchi's work, you can always give One Piece a shot. The voice actor has been overseeing Usopp for decades, after all. For those curious about the anime, you can find One Piece streaming everywhere from Netflix to Hulu and Crunchyroll. So for more info on One Piece, you can read its official synopsis below:

"As a child, Monkey D. Luffy was inspired to become a pirate by listening to the tales of the buccaneer "Red-Haired" Shanks. But Luffy's life changed when he accidentally ate the Gum-Gum Devil Fruit and gained the power to stretch like rubber...at the cost of never being able to swim again! Years later, still vowing to become the king of the pirates, Luffy sets out on his adventure...one guy alone in a rowboat, in search of the legendary "One Piece," said to be the greatest treasure in the world..."
